Ring of Honor Evening Show

James Gibson vs. Spanky vs. Homicide- ROH World Title Match. Newly crowned champion Gibson and Spanky fought for the Tag Titles on 8/13, but came up short. Spanky turned on Gibson either during or after the match (I’ve been told both), setting up a confrontation between the two. However, before that all happened, Gibson vs. Homicide was signed for today’s show. Spanky got added to it, making it a three-way dance. Homicide defeated Gibson at The Future is Now, as well as being on the winning side of a Rottweilers vs Samoa Joe, Jay Lethal and Gibson at The Homecoming. Homicide defeated Spanky in their only encounter at Round Robin Challenge III. Gibson and Spanky, both WWE-bound, met at Third Anniversary Celebration Week part 2, with Gibson picking up the win in his ROH debut.

Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels: ROH Pure Title Match. Joe won the Pure Title from his friend Jay Lethal at Manhattan Mayhem, and has defended it five times since then. Daniels brought Joe into ROH back in 2002 as a hired assassin of The Prophecy to take out Low Ki. Joe and The Prophecy were never on the same wavelength though, and Joe soon split off and had a relatively underwhelming career in ROH from then until now. Oh, wait, I think he had something like a 21 month run as ROH World Champion from March of 2003 until Christmas 2004. I guess that’s pretty good. Joe and Daniels met at Glory by Honor II for Joe’s ROH World Title, with Joe barely escaping with the title.

Roderick Strong & Austin Aries vs. Jimmy Rave & Alex Shelley- Generation Next vs. The Embassy Grudge Match. This feud kicked off at The Homecoming, when Shelley revealed he joined The Embassy. That night, Jimmy Rave defeated AJ Styles, who while not in GN, has been siding with them in this feud mostly due to his hate toward Jimmy Rave, in a street fight. Fast Eddie and Alex Shelley of The Embassy also defeated tonight’s team of Strong and Aries. The continued the feud in Dayton on 8/12, with a 6 man war won by GN, allowing the ever-popular-in-the-Midwest Matt Sydal to become an official member of Generation Next. In Chicago the next night, Aries defeated The Embassy’s Crown Jewel, Jimmy Rave.

On note on this match, AJ Styles was originally supposed to be in this match with Aries, but as a result of a knee injury sustained at TNA’s last PPV, he will be taking the night off. Hopefully he’ll make it to Buffalo next weekend to take on Japanese star CIMA.

Colt Cabana vs. Nigel McGuinness. Cabana has a special stipulation for this match that will be announced at the show. These two have been feuding throughout the summer, with Nigel picking up wins, albeit some by shady tactics, at Manhattan Mayhem, Nowhere to Run, and Escape from New York.. Cabana won their encounter at Third Anniversary Celebration Week part 2. These two also split tag team encounters with various partners at New Frontiers & The Final Showdown.

Carnage Crew vs. Ring Crew Express- Weapons Match. The Ring Crew Express put The Carnage Crew out of ROH for 90 days way back at Third Anniversary Celebration Week part 1 in the Scramble Cage match. The Crew returned, angrier than when they left, at Manhattan Mayhem laying out the RCE before the opening match. The two teams had brutal encounters at The Future is Now & Death Before Dishonor III, with The Carnage Crew emerging victorious both times. ROH says this time, there will be no rematch.

Ricky Reyes vs. Jay Lethal. Lethal has been feuding with The Rottweilers since Manhattan Mayhem, when Low Ki and Homicide hit Lethal with an absolutely sick Cop Killa/Double Stomp combination. Since then, Lethal has been out for revenge, though he has had trouble finding it, going to two no-contests with Low Ki, losing a match with Homicide, losing a 6 man tag against the Rottweilers, and only getting a DQ win over Homicide and Ki in Chicago last Saturday. Reyes, half of the Havana Pitbulls, will now face Lethal as he tries to gain some sort of revenge on The Rottweilers.

Plus more to be added, including Puma making his return to ROH, and “The Hardcore Legend” Mick Foley will be there to make an impact. When Foley shows up in ROH, it’s always memorable.
