It has been discovered recently that the WWE filed the trademark application for the rights to the "Dudley Boyz" name along with the titles for "Bubba Ray Dudley" and "D-Von Dudley" as well on October 28th, 2003. It was later registered without incident on September 28th, 2004. According to registration papers, the first use of the names took place on October 17th, 1999 despite The Dudley's debuting on August 30th, 1999. Either way, WWE has seen to it that neither gain the rights to their names that they originally created in ECW and were told by Paul Heyman they would get to keep until WWE stepped in.
