Notes on TNA's deal with Spike TV: Executives attend PPV, & advertising
On Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 12:22 PM EST Executives from Spike TV attended the TNA Sacrifice PPV on August 14 and were reportedly very impressed with the event. Some of the executives requested that many rematches take place from the show involving some of the better workers who worked well together. Given the feedback from the show, that can mean we could see an AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe rematch on Spike TV possibly.
Spike TV will be selling the advertising inventory for TNA programming at cheap rates to attract some potential advertisers. Given the fact that the "TNA brand" doesn't carry the same mainstream recognition that WWE wrestling does, Spike will be unable to command the same advertising dollar for TNA programming. Spike will be pocketing a good majority of the advertising dollars.
On a related note, TNA's final deal with Spike TV stipulates that Spike sell the advertising time, not TNA. TNA will be allowed two minutes of ad. time each show to promote its upcoming pay per view events and other merchandise, but that is it. Spike will be keeping all revenue that it sells as part of the "Slammin' Saturday Night" time block. On the plus side for TNA, they don't have to pay for the time like they did a year ago on Fox Sports Net. This positive will give TNA the chance to turn a possible profit within the next year.
