WWE.com issues a statement and video regarding Hurricane Katrina...
On Friday, September 2, 2005 at 10:22 PM EST The following was posted on WWE.com tonight:
"As everyone is well-aware of by now, the Gulf Coast area has been hit by one of the largest natural disasters this country has experienced in recent memory. In an effort to provide relief to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, WWE has once again partnered up with Americares.
“Americares and WWE are members of the same community both locally as well as being concerned citizens of the United States,” said Beth Walsh of Americares. “WWE has been very helpful in past disasters such as the recent Tsunami and they’re helping out once again to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, and we’re very grateful.”
WWE fans can also get involved with the relief effort through Americares.
“For the general public, the best way to help is to donate money,” said Walsh. “A lot of people like to donate water and clothing, but it’s really not practical in this case. We receive donations of things like bottled water directly from the manufacturers, so they’re packaged and ready to move in industrial quantities already. But money is needed to move these things, and it’s also needed to help the people displaced from their homes not only for the immediate days but also in the months ahead.”
Walsh says that the response so far has been tremendous, but it really is never enough.
“Since Monday we’ve raised more than $2 million,” she said. “That money is helping support two emergency response teams we have in the field now in Mississippi and Louisiana. We have shipped out medicine valuing more than $300,000 to a clinic in Louisiana, and we have a lot of other relief supplies on the way.”
To donate money, fans can go to Americares’ website, which is www.americares.org. You can also call Americares’ toll free number which is 1-800-486-HELP."
