Ring Of Honor presents "Glory By Honor IV" - Tonight in Long Island, NY
On Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 2:33 AM EST Ring of Honor returns to Long Island tonight for Glory by Honor IV, with the following card:
-James Gibson vs. Bryan Danielson- ROH World Title Match. Danielson is making his return to ROH after leaving following his unsuccessful bid to win the ROH World Title from then-champion Austin Aries at Nowhere to Run in May. Gibson took the belt from CM Punk on August 12th, and has since defended against Spanky and Colt Cabana. Danielson, despite being in ROH since 2002, albeit sparatically at times, has only recieved two shots at the ROH World Title before tonight, coming up short against Samoa Joe & Austin Aries respectively. Can the third time be the charm for Danielson?
-AJ Styles vs. Jimmy Rave- Winner can never use the Rave/Styles Clash again in ROH. On top of that stipulation, the only way to win the match is by hitting the Rave/Styles Clash on your opponent. What isn't there to say about this feud? AJ was Rave's mentor while he was breaking into the company in 2003. Following AJ being pulled by TNA following the scandal involving ROH's former owner, Rave was left on his own, and eventually joined up with Prince Nana's Embassy. With his new attitude intact, Rave went on impressive winning streak in the latter half of 2004, only notably losing consecutive bids to win the ROH Pure Title from John Walters in December. Then, at Third Anniversary Celebration Week, part 2 AJ made supposed "one time only" return to ROH to take on his former protege. Rave got the better of Styles that night, and this feud was supposedly over. A few short months later, AJ returned, permanently, at Death Before Dishonor III, and declared war on the Embassy. At Sign of Dishonor, AJ picked up a win over Rave, evening the score in their feud. Rave again went one-up on Styles at The Homecoming, after defeating Styles in a Street Fight. They haven't met since in ROH. As if this feud could be any bigger, none other than Mick Foley will be in AJ's corner in his final ROH appearance.
-Low Ki vs. Jay Lethal- Fight Without Honor. This is another feud that will come to a close tonight. ROH has only done four Fight Without Honor's in the history of the company prior to tonight, including Low Ki winning the first one against Samoa Joe at the first Glory By Honor in 2002. The issue with Lethal and Ki started way back at Midnight Express Reunion, where Ki defeated Lethal. At Manhattan Mayhem, it was revealed that Low Ki was Jay Lethal's mystery attacker at Trios Tourney 2005. Later in the night, Ki and Homicide hit a brutal Cop Killa/Double Stomp combination on Lethal, putting him out of ROH for about a month. Ki and Lethal fought to a no-contest at Death Before Dishonor III. Ki and Homicide were DQ'ed on August 13th in a match against Lethal and Samoa Joe, and now this issue will be settled tonight in a match with the stipulation that brought us classics like Low Ki vs. Samoa Joe, Trent Acid vs. Homicide & John Walters vs. Xavier.
-Nigel McGuinness vs Roderick Strong- ROH Pure Title Match. Nigel took the Pure Title from the mighty Samoa Joe at Dragon's Gate Invasion. Now he will make his first defense against Strong, who has been on a roll of sorts in singles matches of late, including defeating WWE star Matt Hardy, though really, not to knock Roderick at all, but everyone and their mother has beaten Matt Hardy lately.
-Colt Cabana vs. Homicide. This will be a first time singles encounter for these two in ROH. This is a result of Homicide attacking Cabana following Dragon's Gate Invasion in Buffalo on August 27th. I believe the only times these two have even been in the same match together are in two seperate Four Corner Survivals, one at Revenge on the Prophecy, and the other at the original Death Before Dishonor, both in 2003.
-BJ Whitmer vs. Samoa Joe vs. Ricky Reyes vs. Adam Pearce- Four Corner Survival. This will be "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce's debut in ROH. Pearce is no slouch, having been Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's World Champ in 2004, and is a veteran of the business. Joe, of course, is a former ROH Pure Champion and for ROH World Champion. If he can pick up a fall on Whitmer, perhaps he'd be in line to add the Tag Titles to his impressive title history list. Whitmer is half of the reigning ROH Tag Champions, along with Jimmy Jacobs. Reyes is half of the Havana Pitbulls along with Rocky Romero, and is representing the Rottweilers in this match. If nothing else, it will be hard-hitting.
-Austin Aries vs. Azrieal. This is a rematch from ROH's match held on WB's Morning Show in New York City before the Manhattan Mayhem show, ROH's debut in New York City. Aries, the then-ROH World Champion, defeated Azrieal. Though Aries lost the belt to CM Punk in June, he has still been keeping an impressive win/loss record in ROH since being dethroned. Azrieal, on the other hand, had been losing more than winning while he was a regular during summer, and hasn't even been on a majority of the shows since July. A win here could change all that for him though.
-Plus more to be added tonight.
