Pro's from the Palace (#49) - Palace Report: WWE, TNA & little ROH
» Reported by Mike Siciliano of WrestleView.com
» On Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at 7:56 PM EST

There's a few thoughts in my head I'd like to get out about the upcoming WWE Homecoming when Raw returns to USA Network next week. Let's get down to business. It's time for another edition of the Palace Report. WWE, TNA, and even a sprinkle of ROH in this one. Debate me, if you dare!

First off, I wonder why WWE used the term Homecoming, especially since they were and have been giving Shane Douglas' attempt at rekindling ECW, aka Hardcore Homecoming such a hard time. Is it a slap in the face of the former Dean Douglas, or just a vicious coincidence? I wonder.

How mad does Trish Stratus have to be? She goes from being a top heel, and involved in multiple storylines with male superstars to returning from injury in a storyline as a FACE, with the Diva Search winner against one wrestler and two megababes. Now don't get me wrong, I have zero problems seeing Torrie and Victoria grab at Candice to cover her up, supposedly, and seeing a bra & panties match is never a bad thing, but let's call it down the middle. Trish Stratus is the best the WWE has to offer from the concept of women wrestlers, and she has been forced in the span of a year to compete in pay per view and major show scenarios with two women who have had little to no experience in a wrestling ring. Granted, I love Christy, I think she's fantastic, and Ashley obviously has potential, but isn't this just grasping at a straw that seems to be a little frayed if you ask me?

I guess Chapter 3 of Angle vs. Michaels is going to happen on live television. I think Vince is losing his mind. The first two chapters of this rivalry took place at pay per views, why bring an iron man match in to the mix when we all know that iron man matches in WWE do not work, see Angle vs. Lesnar. I think Shawn may be, well he has to be happy about this though, at least he gets bumped back up to the big leagues in competition, from Hulk Hogan to Chris Masters was certainly a drop in recognition, don't you think, even for someone as famous as the Show Stopper.

Ok. Someone explain this to me, I know this isn't about Homecoming, but let's bring it up anyway, because chances are he'll be on the show. Chavo Classic doesn't like the Kerwin White gimmick. Chavo JUNIOR doesn't like the Kerwin White gimmick. So, why does Vince think it's going to work? Take a man with the name of Guerrero, and force him to look like a Frank Sinatra reject is absolutely absurd. This one is so bad it makes almost Mordecai look good.

Getting back to homecoming, How's that push coming now, Matt? You're about to fall in a match to Edge which will relegate you to friday night Smackdown. Ha. We'll see you back in the cruiserweight division so fast it'll make your head spin. I know the match with you and Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania 19 was impressive, to say the least, but since then, what have you done for the WWE lately? You think you'll get your push on Smackdown? Ha! I can't even imagine how badly he'll be buried. He'll be on the same plane as Orlando Jordan is now.

Why is WWE bringing in Smackdown talent to work a Raw live show? Someone explain this one to me. It's bad enough to see the titan tron on Smackdown events when they do supershows, but now we're going to see contracted Smackdown talent work the Raw Homecoming show. Who else doesn't think the brand extension dies a quick death as soon as UPN's contract is up with WWE?

John Cena defends the WWE title against Eric Bischoff. Sigh. We're not going to get a Triple H vs. Vince McMahon result here where the chairman gets help and ends up winning the WWE championship. Cena will kill Bischoff, ala what happened when Austin killed Bischoff at No Way Out 2003. But, again, the question remains, why? Angle is due for a rematch. Why wait for a pay per view that hasn't been announced yet? Give him the match here, let this thing play out, and let the FANS actually book for Taboo Tuesday, like you said they were going to do last year.

Three hours of geriatric "I wanna rekindle my flame" legends appearing on this show, for what apparent reason? To fight a war with the UFC? They oughta worry more about the job that the boys in Florida are doing. Let's go down that road for a little bit, shall we?

Really good to see TNA sign Roderick Strong, and even more impressed to see him compete in the first Spike TV Impact match with AJ Styles. Nothing but a pure up side for the ROH veteran. If they don't finalize Austin Aries, and get him involved, quickly with TNA storylines, they're insane.

Team 3-D, BRD & Devon. Brother Ray & Brother Devon, the Deadly Brothers. Sigh. How the mighty have been screwed by the self proclaimed wrestling deities.

Have I commented yet on Jarrett's regaining of the NWA World title at Border City Wrestling? No? Ok, It sucks. Thank you very much, now go get a soda.

America's Most Wanted turned heels, eh? Ok. Who else thinks that the Dudleys, eh, Deadlys, are going to take the NWA World tag team titles, quickly, when they debut with TNA?

Samoa Joe continues to impress me. If he can get over the surprising booking he has this weekend in Ring of Honor, his match with Jushin Thunder Liger at Bound For Glory should be one for the books.

Abyss vs. Sabu vs. Rhino vs. Jeff Hardy in a match with no rules, and anything goes. Heh. Even if you take out the so called stip of keeping these guys locked in a room for 24 hours with no food or water, this match is going to be so bloody and brutal, it'll be a miracle if someone, or all of them, don't end up in hospital beds.

AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels could be the next Austin/Rock when it comes to rivalries. I watched their ironman match on Best of TNA 2. They wrestled a match that was a human chess game of the utmost proportions, and their rematch in IronMan 2 should be nothing more than a classic. Seeing AJ clash Jimmy Rave through a table this past week was something special, and I would suspect nothing less than a gem from probably the two best pure wrestlers in the world today.

Ultimate X is a match for the ages. One question though. I can relate to Petey Williams in that match, no question. I can even relate to Chris Sabin being in that match. I know Matt Bentley made the challenge at Unbreakable, but does he deserve a shot in this match for the #1 contendership for the X title? I think not. He's been out for so long with a contract dispute, and to be put in this type of match right out of the blocks? Handicappers would go with the experienced Chris Sabin or Petey Williams in this one. I'll take the Canadian Destroyer in an early prediction for the PPV on my birthday weekend. Yeppers, ladies and gentlemen, 34 years old. And man, do I feel it.

Someone explain this. Kevin Nash is a recognized legend in sports entertainment. He would draw fans in the seats, no questions asked. Why is he rumoured to get a title shot at TNA's biggest PPV when he hasn't been around for the past six months? Explain that logic.

If Gail Kim can survive the pounding, she and Traci Brooks can be two of the hottest female wrestlers in the world today.

Impact's first main event for Spike TV is a good one. Jeff Hardy vs. Rhino. How many times in the two months Rhino has been in TNA has he been in a main event? Two, already? How many times was he in a main event in the years he was in WWE? A handful, tops? Mostly as an aside for the TLC matches?? You reading this, Matt Hardy?

Ok. Time to go, ladies and gentlemen. I gotta go to work in 3 hours. Click here to drop me an email.

Kimosabe, sumo!?!?!?!?!?
