ROH Preview -- "Orange Krush" Featuring Japanese Star Kenta Kobashi
On Saturday, October 1, 2005 at 2:39 AM EST -Ring of Honor Presents "Orange Krush" tonight in Manhattan, with the following card:
-Samoa Joe vs. Kenta Kobashi. This is a special challange match, as Kobashi, in his North American debut, will take on a man who few would argue is the cornerstone of ROH in Samoa Joe. Everyone remembers Joe's 21 month title reign, but while Joe was ROH champion, Kobashi had a nearly parallel reign in Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan. Kobashi won the GHC Heavyweight Title in early March 2003, a few weeks before Joe won the ROH World Title from Xavier. Joe was dethroned in December of 2004, but Kobashi held the title until March of 2005, a full two years as champion.
-Nigel McGuinness vs. Jay Lethal- ROH Pure Title Match. Nigel won the belt from Lethal's mentor, Samoa Joe, at Dragon's Gate Invasion, and was successful in his defenses against Roderick Strong and BJ Whitmer. Lethal, a former Pure Champion himself, finally gained a pinfall on rival Low Ki at Glory By Honor IV, and now will look to regain the belt he held earlier this year.
-James Gibson vs. Jimmy Yang. This will be Gibson's final weekend in ROH. He is taking on former WWE star Jimmy "Akio" Yang, in Yang's ROH debut.
-Roderick Strong vs. Jimmy Rave. This is a continuation of the Generation Next/Embassy feud, with the "Crown Jewel" of the Embassy, Rave, taking on the enforcer of Generation Next, and Survival of the Fittest II champion, Strong. The last time these two were in the same ring was Dragon's Gate Invasion, where Rave scored a win on Strong's partner, Austin Aries.
-Homicide vs. Jack Evans Evans is making his return to ROH after taking the summer off to heal up some injuries, according to ROH. Homicide and Evans have yet to meet in ROH singles competition, but I think I speak for everyone when I say "Poor, poor Jack."
-Colt Cabana vs. Claudio Castagnoli. Cabana made the final three last week in Survival of the Fittest II, before finally being out-done by the Strong and Aries connection. Castagnoli is making his return to ROH after his last appearance on Do or Die V on August 20th.
-Christopher Daniels vs. Azrieal vs. Matt Sydal. Daniels made the finals of SOTF II last weekend, after finally scoring a big win in ROH by beating former champion James Gibson. Azrieal's appearances have been sporadic all summer, and Sydal is the newest member of Generation Next, and is making his ROH debut on the East Coast, and has some tough competition for his first match.
-Tony Mamaluke vs. Sal Rinauro Rinauro has made only a couple appearances in ROH. He looks to earn a win and possibly gain a full time spot against Mamaluke, who hasn't appeared in ROH since November of 2003.
-Plus more to be added, including BJ Whitmer & Jimmy Jacobs defending the ROH Tag Titles.
