The following was transcribed by "Irish" Mike O'Shea:
Former WWE World Tag Team Champion, former WWE Intercontinental Champion, and the 1999 King Of The Ring, Kip "Billy Gunn" James was a guest on last week's edition of Monday Night Mayhem, which can be heard in streaming audio every week -- exclusively on The Monday Night Mayhem Radio Network (MondayNightMayhem.com & The AudioWrestling Radio Network -- your official home of "The Spring Break Incident" Video-On-Demand, featuring SmackDown! Diva, Stacy Keibler).
The interview with Kip James is now available to hear for FREE in Real Audio!
=========================
Kip was asked about what it is like being part of Total Nonstop Action right now -- and he cannot wait for the Impact debut on Spike TV. Kip commented about the great attitude in TNA and talked about Bound for Glory and what he will bring to it and his expectations. Kip went on to talk about what he thinks the WWE's attitude toward TNA on Spike TV is and said the WWE guys will be watching Impact and most likely all of Vince's jabronie's will be critiquing the whole thing. Kip then said that "he would love to be on the couch in Vince's five million dollar home listening to him bitch & moan." Simply put, Vince is going to have to start worrying about TNA.
Mosh asked Kip to take him back to a time when the World Wrestling Entertainment was fun. Kip said it was fun before the WWE went public and "the reins were put on them." His time up north was fun while it lasted.
The Mayhem Crew & Kip went on to talk about the recent copyright issues with the artists formerly known as The Dudley Boys, a recent Big Van Vader fan site being shut down, and his name changes. Kip thinks it is because the WWE is scared that is why they are having all the copyright issues and why they can't use the "Outlaw" name or "The New Age Outlaws." Kip continued by saying he likes being in a place where he is appreciated. The name is not that important because people know who he is.
Kip was then asked about Kevin Nash coming into TNA and he says that Nash will draw more viewers because of his name recognition. He also is chomping at the bit for a possible storyline/program with "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles before the end of the year or in the beginning of 2006.
The Big Mosh then talked about the new Fight Network in Canada and asked Kip for his promotional ideas, since TNA is airing on the station that has started to transform Canadian television. Kip 100% believes it is important to build their fan base north of the border. It's essential to make TNA different from the WWE on several fronts, make their product unique in a special way, and take things in stride.
Mosh & Blade then went on to talk about one of Kip's many gimmicks in World Wrestling Entertainment, the loveable "Rock-A-Billy." Kip believes that gimmick almost ruined his career and if he knew who came up with that gimmick, "he would punch him squarely in the mouth."
Kip was then asked about the various gimmick changes in the WWE and talked about how nothing was done with him after winning The King Of The Ring croan in 1999 -- comparing to others that won it and how every time he was getting a good run, it flat out went nowhere.
The Big Mosh asked about the Billy & Chuck "Ambiguously Gay" gimmick, which went so far as a commitment ceremony on SmackDown, in addition to both of them appearing with Matt Lauer on NBC's Today Show. Kip said he never regretted anything he has done in professional wrestling, especially with this over-the-top storyline. It was fun to do and people actually bought it.
Kip was asked about his injuries in World Wrestling Entertainment and if he was considered injury prone by the boys in the locker room & if that was the main reason why Vince let him go from the company. Kip went on to say he only had one major injury while in the WWE, so he does not think it was a factor at all. His major injury occurred because he gave his all in the ring and loves what he does for a living.
Kip thoroughly enjoyed working his program with Torrie Wilson, Jamie Noble, & Nidia. However, on the flip side, he was disappointed with his spot in the company after the 2004 WWE Royal Rumble. After having vignettes leading into The Rumble for several weeks on WWE television, he honestly expected something to come from it. After being eliminated by Bill Goldberg, that was all she wrote for that particular "push."
Kip went on to talk about the WWE "being the same old, same old," and that he does not even watch the WWE product. He knows that Total Nonstop Action will be over with the fans & continue to be so into the future. You will see something different, along with constant evolution of the product.
In closing, Kip truly believes that there will be another "Monday Nights War" eventually and that is what Vince deep down. "McMahon thrives on competition." He, along with other wrestlers, know that another "war" would be great for the business.
Other highlights in this 45+ minute interview include Kip's feelings on a Jeff Jarrett/Triple H comparison & contrast, his friendship with Hardcore Holly, how different it was teaming with Bart Gunn in The Smoking Gunns, The Road Dogg in The New Age Outlaws, and Chuck Palumbo as part of Billy & Chuck, his aspirations for becoming NWA World Heavyweight Champion, and plenty more Degeneration-X memories that will keep you laughing. And which WWE superstar(s) might find themselves into TNA before the end of the year -- Kip's answer might surprise you.
