Tom Prichard Interview: Talks about WrestleReunion, Kurt Angle, more
» Reported by Adam Martin of WrestleView.com
» On Sunday, October 2, 2005 at 1:21 PM EST

The following was transcribed by "Irish" Mike O'Shea:

Former eight-time Smokey Mountain World Tag Team Champion, former WWE World Tag Team Champion, and former scout/road agent for World Wrestling Entertainment, Dr. Tom Prichard, was a guest on last week's edition of Monday Night Mayhem, which can be heard in streaming audio every week exclusively on The Monday Night Mayhem Radio Network (MondayNightMayhem.com & The AudioWrestling Radio Network -- your official home of "The Spring Break Incident" Video-On-Demand, featuring SmackDown! Diva, Stacy Keibler).
The interview with Dr. Tom Prichard is now available to hear for FREE in Real Audio!

=========================

Tom joined the program with The Big Mosh & The Angry Hero, starting the interview by giving his opinion on what it was like taking part in the epic WrestleReunion II weekend in King Of Prussia, PA. He absolutely loved spending time with Bruno Sammartino, Harley Race, and especially Dory Funk Jr. & Terry Funk. Mosh then talked about all of the other reunion & nostalgia feelings & shows taking place. Pritchard commented how the product today is "homogenized" and "cookie cutter," so that's a good reason why fans flock to those events vs. tuning in to what's on now.

The Big Mosh asked about the hand he had in training WWE Champion, John Cena & former WWE Champion & Olympic Gold Medalist, Kurt Angle. Tom said he had more of an influence on Angle's career. He credits Danny Davis & Jim Cornette for molding & shaping Cena more than himself. Tom discussed how John Cena went out to UPW on his own dime, while he lived in Boston and got a job working in a gym -- when he didn't know Killer Kowalski's school was right next store in Boston, MA. Tom continued to talk about his times in Ohio Valley Wrestling and how Danny Davis is a mentor to all the guys there.

Tom gave his honest & candid takes about Matt Hardy re-signing with the WWE and how the "Titan brass" did not want him to appear at WrestleReunion II & his match with Rhino vs. the artists formerly known as The Dudley Boyz. Tom talked about the element of doubt to the feud with Edge, which you don't get much of today. Tom believes that Matt being fired by the company beforehand was "bullshit," and so did a lot of other people with the company, but also thinks Matt did the right thing going back to World Wrestling Entertainment.

Mosh commented about how important & integral the new talent being called up to the active roster and the WWE farm system (both in Ohio Valley Wrestling & Deep South) are to the future of the company. Tom agrees 100% about how important the developmental territories really are. There are some problems with them however, as he feels "the best players don't make the best coaches." Pritchard also talked about what it takes to be a top guy in the business today and why the World Heavyweight Champion, Batista, is on top -- a perfect example of "true talent."

The Angry Hero asked Tom he has been asked to assist in any way with Total Nonstop Action, either for the writing team or a road agent. Prichard mentioned that he has had two conversations with the company and there is an open line of communication. There are several things he likes about the company (including Jeff Jarrett being NWA World Heavyweight Champion) and several things that can be altered completely or slightly.

With Prichard's extensive background working with The Heavenly Bodies & The Body Donnas, Mosh asked about Tom about comparing tag team wrestling from ten years ago to now. Prichard feels he that the tag team division is about to get stronger going into the end of the year. He especially enjoys the work of Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch, MNM (Joey Mercury & Johnny Nitro), and America's Most Wanted. He feels it is essential to have a chemistry between two wrestlers, and throwing two single competitors together does not cut the cake.

In closing, Tom is asked where he sees the business going (quoting Terry Funk) and talks about the element of realism in wrestling, as there will be more in the years to come.

Other amazing highlights in this excellent interview include Tom's uncensored take on the WWE Monday Night RAW/USA Homecoming special, in addition to a very special & emotional tribute to his former tag team partner in The Body Donnas, the late Chris Candido.

The 9/23 edition of The Mayhem also featured former WWE World Tag Team Champion, former WWE Intercontinental Champion, and the 1999 King Of The Ring, Kip James, making his much-anticipated first appearance on the program -- stepping into The Mayhem squared circle with The Big Mosh & The Angry Hero. With being one of the longest tenured superstars with World Wrestling Entertainment for well over a decade, you know that the artist formerly known as Billy Gunn had a lot on his mind -- from his time with The Smoking Gunns, working with Degeneration X, and teaming with Chuck Palumbo to being a part of the active TNA roster and feuding with BG James once again. What will his role at Bound For Glory be? Does he see another "Monday Night War" in the works anytime soon? If your name happens to be either Vince or Hunter, then listen discretion is highly advised for you. If you're not down Kip being with The Mayhem, we got two words for ya -- Suck it!

=========================

We also encourgage you fans who have not already done so to check out the most extreme & uncensored edition of The Mayhem (9/16/05 show), featuring "The Original Gangsta" New Jack (who explain the truth on why he was not brought into the WWE to work with John Cena, why he was not at ECW's One Night Stand Pay-Per-View, and what he has in store for the superstars formerly known as The Dudley Boyz) & "The First Lady Of Professional Wrestling" Missy Hyatt (who discussed her life after wrestling, what her thoughts are on the current product -- including the likelihood of her returning to the business, either in the WWE or TNA, why she has not taken part in either ECW reunion show, and her candid takes on Eric Bischoff, Jason Hervey, "Nasty Boy" Brian Knobbs, former Buffalo Bills QB Jim Kelly, Paul Heyman, and so much more). This program would probably be rated IE MA on the Internet -- and is definitely a show that you have to listen to, simply because a recap would just be full of asterisks.

=========================

In case you happened to forget, this week's all-new slam-packed edition (9/30) of The Mayhem, is now playing -- and it features a complete, in-depth preview of this week's WWE Monday Night RAW USA Homecoming, with former WWE Announcer, Kevin Kelly -- along with former Buffalo Bill LB "The Alpha Male Monty Brown" to preview tonight's debut of TNA Impact! on Spike TV & his upcoming match vs. Raven at the Bound For Glory Pay-Per-View.

=========================

Who would have thought it? This upcoming week (10/3) also marks another Fall Season Premiere Of The Mayhem! As you fans are recovering from the debut of TNA Impact on SpikeTV and are priming up for the three-hour WWE RAW Homecoming on the USA Network, step into the Monday Night Mayhem squared circle, with The Big Mosh & Blade. The former manager of The Four Horsemen, the legendary JJ Dillon, will join MNM for its season premiere to discuss plenty of topics & issues, including: "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair capturing the WWE Intercontinental Championship, Chris Jericho taking a break from the wrestling business, the ten-year anniversary of WCW Monday Nitro. JJ will be aboard to promote his autobiography, "Wrestlers Are Like Seagulls: From McMahon To McMahon" -- which can be purchased exclusively on www.JJDillon.com.

=========================

And don't forget wrestling fans -- starting on Monday night, October 10th, Monday Night Mayhem will return to the format that has made it one of the most respected & critically-acclaimed wrestling radio shows in the world -- LIVE! That's right wrestling fans, every Monday night from 7-9PM ET, you will be able to tune in to "Your Home Of Wrestling Radio" live -- along the airwaves of www.MondayNightMayhem.com & www.AudioWrestling.com. Joining The Big Mosh, The Angry Hero, and Blade for this epic show will be the founder of Extreme Championship Wrestling, Tod Gordon, to discuss the future of Hardcore Homecoming, his uncensored thoughts on Vince McMahon, and his future in the business. In addition, former ECW World Heavyweight Champion.
