In news that may be the real life reason behind his storyline departure from RAW, WWE.com reports this afternoon that Jim Ross was hospitalized earlier today to undergo colon surgery.

Pro Wrestling Torch reports that Ross had been having pain for months, with the surgery an attempt to resolve the problem.

There is no word on Ross's condition.
