Backstage notes regarding Steve Austin appearance on RAW, Jim Ross

During his appearance on RAW this past Monday night, Steve Austin was said to have been entertaining many wrestlers and staff backstage during his segment with Stephanie McMahon. Austin's line about Stephanie's "balls falling out", which wasn't scripted, had many people laughing backstage. Another person caught laughing was Stephanie herself who broke character a bit while on camera instead of doing the usual "heel" reaction. Both were spotted backstage after the show having a laugh together over that line in the segment.

When Austin first came out to the ring, he had to stall for a good three minutes during the commercial break to keep the crowd excited. Austin would get time cues at ringside and filled the remaining minutes by drinking beers and interacting with some fans at ringside. Overall, many in WWE management were pleased with how the whole segment turned out. It still remains to be seen how the company intends on playing out the angle between Austin and The Coach at the Taboo Tuesday PPV in two weeks.

It should also be noted that Austin was spotted socializing with Dusty Rhodes backstage before RAW as well. Austin has made it clear many times in the past that he is a big fan of Dusty's work and promos. In regards to how he has handled the treatment of Jim Ross' character on WWE television, Austin was told by management that it was "just an angle" and nothing more. Austin did make it clear that he wasn't thrilled with the way the McMahons went about it, but was assured that a storyline was in place that is set to continue. Says one WWE source, "Austin isn't in a position to be demanding Ross be kept as host of RAW and he knows it. That's just not his place now that he's not a full-time performer on RAW."
