- Former Ultimate Fighter and WWE developmental wrestler Ron “H2O” Waterman appeared Thursday on The Rick & Bubba Show, an award-winning radio/television simulcast morning variety show broadcast in the Southeast.
Waterman, who appeared along with Jeff Neal, was promoting the southeastern U.S. tour of Team Impact, a family-focused evangelistic team consisting of nineteen athletes who perform feats of strength as an avenue to share their faith. The team does programs in conjunction with faith-based groups throughout the nation.
Neal spoke with the hosts about the programs that the team puts on, the feats of strength they perform, and the goal of their organization. Rick & Bubba seemed particularly impressed with less vocal, yet highly charismatic Waterman, who had a great time kidding around and laughing it up with the hosts. Waterman stepped into the spotlight when asked to give a brief demonstration, military pressing a staff member for several reps and tearing a Birmingham Area phone book (which goes about 800 – 1200 pages) in half before the two fielded calls from the audience.
After the usual “when are you coming to my area” callers had come and gone, yours truly, “Minister Monday Night,” broke through the busy signals as the final caller of the segment and asked Waterman for an inside perspective on the struggles of being a new Christian and working for the WWE. His response was as follows:
”It was actually very difficult. I was a brand new Christian at the time I was offered that contract. I thought, ‘What a platform I can go into. What a strong place to be a witness.’ I had really good intentions going in there, but you’re just so outnumbered by the rest of the guys; it’s just a good-ole-boys network. Not that those people are bad people, but it’s just so secular. They live a rock-star lifestyle. It’s on the road, on the road, a lot of pressures, and you have to face all of those things every single day. Two years was about all I could handle before I needed to get out."
After another minute or so of discussion, the segment ended. All-in-all, a very fun interview time. Waterman seems genuinely happy and enthusiastic about what he is doing with Team Impact.
