Pro's from the Palace (#53) - TNA Bound For Glory Picks and Thoughts
» Reported by Mike Siciliano of WrestleView.com
» On Friday, October 21, 2005 at 5:08 AM EST

Good morning, everybody. A lot of people have responded to the last chapter, when I went down the Raw roster, and ripped a new one about Smackdown's new juniors division. In response to the ripping I took on that regard, I am not a predjudical man. If anyone took my comments about that new division in the wrong context, I do apologize. With regard to anything else I should have edited in the lst column, please understand what time I am writing this one, and cut me a little slack.

I got a bunch of things to do, first my picks for TNA's Bound for Glory. Let's go to work.

The Diamonds in the Rough (Simon Diamond, Elix Skipper & David Young) vs. Sonny Siaki, Apolo & Shark Boy
Diamond's new faction has not had a tremendous amount of a roll leading up to the PPV, but it's kind of predictable that the faction will beat the new formed team of Apolo & Siaki, normal partners, & Shark Boy. Sharkie would've done better to enter the X Division match than this one.

Winners: The Diamonds in the Rough

Lance Hoyt vs. Monty Brown
Hoyt has not had main event status since Kid Kash went to the WWE. I don't suspect his main event push will begin at the expense of someone who is literally seconds away from a title shot with the World champion.

Winner: Monty Brown

Ultimate X for the #1 contendership to the X Division title
Matt Bentley vs. Chris Sabin vs. Petey Williams
Three former X division title holders in the most death-defying match in wrestling. Now, truth be told, I have not seen many of these matches. I have seen only one, between Williams, Sabin & AJ Styles at Final Resolution, I believe, where Styles took the dupe. That match was off the hook sick. I expect nothing less from these three. Bentley is the long shot in this one, I would believe, because I think the TNA political game will catch up to him, even though he is the one who made the challenge to bring in Ultimate X to the PPV. I am also bothered by the fact that this isn't for the gold. This red X thing at the crossroads of the wires is kind of lame, if you ask me.

Anyway, the match concept itself is tremendous, and that, combined with the skills of the three competitors, will overcome anything "lame" that I would consider involved in this match. Who would win? Well, think about this, what would you, the fan, rather see as the next X-division title matchup? Styles vs. Sabin? Nah. Styles vs. Bentley? Nah. Daniels vs. Sabin? Nah. Daniels vs. Bentley? Nah. Styles or Daniels vs. Petey Williams? Ok, that has some teeth. Styles/Williams is a tremendous match, no matter which fed you slice it under, and Daniels vs. Williams is a battle of two mini-mites that could go for an hour, and not break a sweat. What does this all mean?

Winner: Petey Williams

Monster's Ball 2
Abyss vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Rhino vs. Sabu
The weapons ENCOURAGED stipulation is always beautiful in my eyes. ECW revisited, to a point. The 24 hours locked away, if iti s legit, is a touch much, but hell, these guys are already nuts, so a little extra just makes it spicier. James Mitchell will not be a factor in this because quite frankly, I would suspect one of the others to take him out with a random weapon. I fear for Jeff Hardy's safety. While he is adept at using the weaponry, I don't think he can go as hardcore as the other three. I wonder sometimes if Dixie Carter and the TNA brass are still punishing Jeff, subliminally, for what his brother did to them when he snubbed them and went back to the WWE. (Nice move, knucklehead.)

Anyway, any match with Sabu is a must see. So, since I am rooting for Sabu.....

Winner: Sabu

Also, well, I can't say this part because I would ruin a match on an upcoming Impact, so let me shut up now, while I got the chance.

X Division Four Way
Sonjay Dutt vs. Austin Aries vs. Alex Shelley vs. Roderick Strong
Man, I tell you, this one is going to be absolutely close to the show stealer. Strong and Aries are two of the best indy competitors on the market today, Shelley has all the tools, and Dutt can fly with the best of them. All four of these men in the same six sided combat zone, and God knows what's going to happen. Personally, I couldn't pick this one out of a hat. So, let's go this route. I am a huge Austin Aries fan from what I've seen out of him live and on DVD from Ring of Honor. Based on that....

Winner: Austin Aries

International Dream Match
Samoa Joe vs. Jushin "Thunder" Liger
Any time you can get the chance to see Liger is a bonus. And, going up against a behemoth like Joe is nothing short of a dream. Joe, from seeing his schedule on his live journal, has to be tired. Also, his record the past couple of weeks has been a little shoddy, losing to Test, of all the stiffs, and before that, losing in two epic showdowns with a different Japanese icon, Kenta Kobashi. So, I am suspecting the big Samoan to be just a touch mean. Meaner than a 50 cent steak.

Anyway, what does that mean for the Thunderous one? A fight. A big fight. I am going to pick Liger to take the bout, because quite frankly, I can't see the politics not coming in to play here, regardless of what sort of relationship TNA has with New Japan. But, if Liger is guaranteed the win, I would suspect, and expect, that Joe will make him earn it. Big time. Stiff hits galore in this one...a must see. I am bummed I won't get the chance.

Winner: Jushin "Thunder" Liger

30 minute Iron Man Match for the X Division Title
AJ Styles defends against Christopher Daniels
That's it. Enough said. 30 minutes of pure classic wrestling between two of the best. Daniels has to be IRATE over the Ironman challenge he did not complete last week on Impact, so that could be the edge Styles is looking for to take an early lead. Once that is accomplished, it's time for some defensive posturing, and we have a pure game of human chess the likes nobody has ever seen. IronMan 1 was an epic. Ironman 2 is going to be the same.

I'm torn here too. But, I don't think Mr. Daniels has another run as the champ yet in his system. Not yet.

Winner: AJ Styles

Former UFC Standout Tito Ortiz referees the main event for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship
Jeff Jarrett defends against Kevin Nash
I understand TNA's desire to bring in name talent. I understand TNA's desire to have a champion not as complex as Raven going in to Spike TV, even though I didn't like the House show title change aspect like what they did in Windsor, Ontario. I also do not like Jarrett's new faction, because it will allow him to maintain a strangle hold on the title, and it could end up being the TNA version of Triple H with the World title. All that being said.

What makes Kevin Nash deserving of a title shot at the so called super bowl of TNA?

Is he deserving down the road? Sure. Is he deserving of title contention immediately, okay, I can go there, but one interference, and he books the match for the title, and it goes down? What's going on with the booking, here, ladies and gentlemen, and when does the rankings not have a damn thing to do with it? What would you have rather seen? What you're going to see, or Raven vs. Jarrett with Ortiz as ref? Or better still, add Monty Brown to the mix, and make it similar to Monster's Ball or Ultimate X. Something other than this. Why? Because they did it a while ago, not too long ago, when AJ got the belt back for his month long title reign. Exactly the same. One on one with Ortiz as ref. What's so groundbreaking about that?

Anyway, it's obvious here that the numbers game is going to overcome Nash, and he will fall. Jarrett didn't get the belt at International Incident only to lose it so quickly to a talent who hasn't been in a sanctioned wrestling match in close to six months.

WINNER: Jeff Jarrett

That's it for now. Coming soon will be the second half of the WWE roster breakdown, with a look at the Smackdown roster, and I was asked to do a similar piece for the TNA roster. Why not? I got enough to say, so, we'll check ya later. I also got an idea to check how I have done with all these picks, yanno, win loss records, and stuff. It'll take a while, but hey, maybe I'm a better handicapper than I think. Who knows?

The Palace dweller turns 34 tomorrow. Be afraid, ladies and gentlemen. Be very afraid.
