From his legendary feud with Raven over his son (Tyler) & his matches vs. Rhino, Cactus Jack, & Justin Credible to being managed by some of the hottest women in this business, The Sandman has seen in, lived it, and well -- done it all! It was now time for him to Feel The Mayhem!
The interview opened with The Sandman imitating Tod Gordon, in return to Tod imitating The Sandman from two weeks ago on the program. An extremely funny Mayhem classic moment to say the very least.
The Angry Hero discussed Tod Gordon's upcoming autobiography/book, which The Sandman answered by saying that it will be good seeing all of the stories spit out onto paper. The Big Mosh then asked if The Sandman thought that Extreme Championship Wrestling should be continuing in some fashion today (besides Hardcore Holly/Sylvan "Hardcore Matches"), and The Sandman said simply "ask Vince." The Sandman also brought up the TNA stars that used to wrestle/manage in ECW (Raven, Jerry Lynn, Sabu, Father James Mitchell, "The Franchise" Shane Douglas), who might very well be in the WWE if it was not for TNA. However, he does feel that TNA is carrying the torch of the "extreme movement," with the hardcore element still being there more than the WWE. The Angry Hero then asked if Sandman would be in TNA, and he answered saying that their management has not contacted him, but he's doing good working independent shows in Philadelphia & across the pond (in England) and current stuff that he's been doing. The Sandman said that the England shows have an Extreme Championship Wrestling vibe to them -- with the fans being into every part of the event.
The Big Mosh then mentions Hardcore Homecoming next weekend, and if Sandman will be on the show, which he says no and that he has another booking, but might've been at Hardcore Homecoming if they didn't have the recent problems they did. The Big Mosh asks Sandman's thoughts on the Hardcore Homecoming DVD sales and stuff, which he answers that he doesn't know much about. The Big Mosh then mentions the replacement of Metallica's song on the DVD, to more crappy music, which Sandman says they changed a few others too, as Sandman's son comes in and says they did it on Team 3D's music as well.
Former ECW superstar & former Extreme Championship Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion, Rhino, was then mentioned by The Big Mosh as new NWA World Heavyweight Champion (defeating Jeff Jarrett at Bound For Glory this past Sunday night), and the possibility of a new feud with The Sandman's close personal friend & former arch enemy) Raven. The Sandman said Rhino is definitely a credible name for the title and that Jarrett held it way too long. He compared Rhino to Chris Benoit as a good champion for the company. Speaking of Raven, Mosh & Hero talked about the extremely candid ROH Shoot Interview (no pun intended) that The Sandman & Raven did -- which The Sandman has fond memories of. He loves when he can be himself and not have to worry about kissing anyone's ass or offending anyone. The Sandman also wanted to go on record to tell Raven that his pop at the TNA PPV was nowhere close to his in New York City on the artists formerly known as The Dudley Boyz.
The Angry Hero then went back a few years to The Sandman's time in World Championship Wrestling as Hardcore Hak & the clusterfuck that was "The Hardcore Invitational" at WCW's Bash At The Beach '99. The Sandman discussed how he ligimately got hurt that night and was unable to compete the following night on WCW Nitro. To this day, he strongly believes he was given some unnecessary heat for that.
The Big Mosh then asked how his son, Tyler, is doing -- to which The Sandman mentioned that he's about his size right now -- and being only 15 years old. Mosh & Hero talk about the legendary angle in ECW between The Sandman & Raven, possibly one of the greatest angles in the company's history, which The Sandman is still very proud of. He said that "The King Of Old School" Steve Corino tried beating the record with his son (Cody), but lost by about two months, with Tyler being 5 years, 6 months, & 17 days, and Corino's son being 5 years & 8 months.
The Big Mosh then mentioned the recent Ballpark Brawl V show (Bang! Bang! Have A Nice Day!) in Buffalo, NY (The hometown of The Mayhem), where The Sandman (w/Tod Gordon) fought "The Homicidal, Suicidal, Genocidal, Death-Defying Maniac" known the world over as Sabu (w/ Bill Alphonso) in a Cane, Tables, Chairs, Ladders, and everything else match (with "The Hardcore Legend" Mick Foley at ringside). The Sandman cracked up huge after this specific mention -- as he remembered the move him & Tod did to Fonzie, called "The Malachi Crunch," after watching a Happy Days show. They also joke about Foley sipping a beer with pride in the ring after the match, and the slippery padding mats on the outside of the ring.
Blade then entered and asked about the reasoning of The Sandman leaving ECW for WCW. The Sandman said it occurred because he had an agreement that he would be the highest paid wrestler, when he found out Sabu made more at a Pay-Per-View, and then left. He also said nobody knew he was leaving WCW when he left, and he was back in Extreme Championship Wrestling within days. The Big Mosh then asked about "Stone Cold" Steve Austin having the same type of gimmick with beer-drinking. The Sandman simply put, said that "he was The Sandman before 'Stone Cold' was 'Stone Cold.'" He also said that the ending of ECW's One Night Stand PPV, with them raising their hands together, was a total accident.
The Big Mosh mentioned the former owners of XPW, Rob Black & Lizzie Borden -- due to their recent legal problems, and he asked The Sandman about his times in XPW. The Sandman said it was all good, he was always paid, and it got his daughter a chance to get involved with an angle with Pogo The Clown.
The Big Mosh also brought up The Sandman's most recent match from last weekend, that being with Jersey All Pro Wrestling (at their 8th Anniversary Show) against Jay Lethal & Danny Demanto, or as The Sandman called him, "the sacrificial lamb."
This hardcore 40+ minute interview also includes The Sandman speaking candidly about his current relationship with Paul Heyman & Tommy Dreamer, his thoughts on the future of WWE-oriented ECW reunion shows, and why there is no beer in his refrigerator while he is at home.
