Recap of Bret "Hitman" Hart on Off the Record Date: November 29th, 2005 Host: Michael Landsberg
The show started off with highlights of Bret Hart's DVD "Bret "Hitman" Hart The best there is... The best there was... The best there ever will be".
Michael Landsberg welcomes Bret to OTR. He promotes Bret's new DVD and asked him if he forgives Vince for what he did (Survivor Series 1997).
Bret says that he does not forgive him for what he did, but he is grateful that he re-considered where he was going with the DVD. Especially seeing as how it was all going to be about Survivor Series 1997. Bret also mentions how they weren't going to portray him in a good light in the DVD. He says that he had a great career, long before what happened at Survivor Series and that it would have been a mistake to minimize everything that he did and focus it all around Survivor Series.
Michael Landsberg: Is it fair to say it was worth your while to work with him (Vince)?
Bret says that people told him he shouldn't of done it. But they were wrong. He wanted to be remembered to what he contributed to the business, and not Survivor Series.
Landsberg asks Bret if he would ever get back into it... In any way?
Bret said that he thinks about it alot, but then keeps asking himself, what would he do if he came back? Bret is always remembered for being a good wrestler. He doesn't want to be remembered for being a referee, a manager, etc... He started as a great wrestler and he walked out as a great wrestler. He then mentioned that he was as good as he walked out as he did when he walked in.
Michael Landsberg: Did Bret want to be remembered as the guy who never quits?
Bret says he doesn't hold grudges on people that never quit. He mentioned Hogan and Flair. He says he doesn't envy them and all they have is wrestling.
Landsberg adds that it's a coincidence that Shawn's new book came out the same time as Bret's DVD. Landsberg read a part of Shawn's book where he says "Bret was not a great wrestler". Bret fires back by saying, "I think my wrestling speaks for itself." Bret then says that if you understand and read Shawn's book, he acts like Bret screwed Shawn over. And that everyone saw Michaels at the end of Survivor Series saying that he swore to God that he knew nothing about the screwjob. Then a few years later, he admits that he pressured Vince to go along with the screwjob. And finally, When you read Shawn's book, you'll find out he vindicated Bret and that he's the liar.
Fun Fact: Bret Hart was once managed by actor William Shatner.
