Gregory Helms signs new WWE deal, Batista calls TNA 'huge step down'
On Friday, February 24, 2006 at 3:03 PM EST WWE.com is reporting that current WWE Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms has signed a new long-term contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. There is an interview up with Helms at this link.
I'd like to send out a congratulations to Helms on the re-signing. I wonder what many of his "critics" will have to say about this move by WWE since they have been very outspoken as of late on the internet and on wrestling radio.
W. Eric Thornton sent in this recap of Batista on the "Elliot in the Morning" radio show in Washington, D.C.: On Thursday, Batista stopped by the Elliot in the Morning radio show around 9:15 am to promote the shows going on in Washington DC soon. They talked about his injury and how it came at the hands of Mark Henry. Batista said Mark was very apologetic about it.
He said that since he has been off, he has spent a lot of time buying stuff off eBay. He said that he collects lunch boxes and light sabers. Batista said that his oldest lunch box is a 1967 Green Hornet with Bruce Lee on the front. I believe he paid around $600-700 for that lunch box. He said that he has seen a Superman lunchbox go for as much as $10,000. Elliot called him a bit of a geek and Batista agreed.
When he found out that WWE was going to be in Washington DC he called Vince and said that he had to be involved since it is his hometown.
He said that both Creative and Vince decides which wrestler will compete on either Smackdown or Raw.
Batista said he felt that he got a lucky break when getting into WWE. He said he used to be a bouncer at a bar called LuLu's in Washington. He told how he had tried out for both WWE and WCW.
He said that when he started he lost all the time and as a rookie, that is just part of the game. He said that a wrestler has gotta be willing to lose at anytime. Batista doesn't mind losing, just as long as it is a great match.
He calls HHH a true friend.
They took some calls from listeners at this point.
One woman said she used to groom his dogs and Batista said that he has 3 little yipping dogs at home. He said that he now lives in Tampa and his kids love it there.
After his return, Batista said he would like to face Randy Orton for the title.
He said that if for some reason he was released, he would prefer to go to Japan to wrestle instead of somewhere in the states. He says that TNA is a huge step down and is a secondary company compared to the WWE. He did say that TNA has very good talent and that they are slowly coming into their own now.
He ended the segment by saying that his dream match would be against the Undertaker since that is one person he said he has never wrestled against.
