Brock Lesnar/WWE agree to settlement; what this does now for Lesnar
On Monday, April 24, 2006 at 2:18 PM EST The Twin Cities Business Journal is reporting today that both former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar and World Wrestling Entertainment have agreed to a settlement of Lesnar's current lawsuit against the company.
Although terms of the settlement were not announced, Lesnar's attorney David Bradley Olsen made it clear that it wasn't exactly the finish they were hoping for. "Although the settlement with WWE does not give Brock the clear-cut court victory he was looking for, it does provide him with the certainty he needs to pursue new ventures while he is still in his athletic prime," said Bradley.
Lesnar first filed the lawsuit back in February of 2005 claiming that the settlement agreement he signed in March of 2004 after WrestleMania 20 in order to leave the company and pursue a career in the National Football League was wrongly prohibiting him from attemping to earn money in other ventures. Things got very interesting from a legal standpoint when WWE stepped in to try and prevent Lesnar for working with New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he currently holds the IWGP Championship.
At one point during the situation, it had appeared Lesnar was going to return to WWE after reports surfaced that he visited WWE Headquarters in Stamford, CT and verbally agreed to terms on a new deal. Lesnar later changed his mind and opted to sign a deal with Inoki Sports instead. While terms are still unknown about the settlement, it is believed Lesnar will be able to compete in both wrestling and ultimate fighting with certain agreed upon restrictions. It is also believed at this time that this new settlement will not allow Lesnar to explore possible options with TNA. Lesnar's attorney has also made it clear that he has no intentions of returning to WWE at this time.
