The Irish Whip By www.theirishwhip.com, Written recap By Kerrie webmaster of matt-cappotelli.com May 09, 2006
Matt is introduced onto the show, Big Joe and J.P. say Matt has come down with some serious Health issues. Matt says yeah. Big Joe talks about himself having a tumor as well and having to have it removed. He says he is still battling it. Big Joe mentions how it was rough for him the first couple of days. Matt says it was, but now he has things in perspective. Matt says his Outlook is always good no matter what. Matt says it is his Faith that will push him through this. The host says he does not want to break up the negativity they have going but he congratulates Matt on getting Married. The host mentions everyone on the forum being glad Matt would be coming on the show and wishing him the best. Matt thanks them for that, Matt says he appreciates the prayers.
Joe asks if Matt would like to talk off the air later about what he is going through and says he has some websites that helped him out as well. Matt says yeah and that he is just trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible. Matt says as of right now it looks as if it will have to be surgically removed and then they will look into follow up treatments if it is radiation or Chemo.
Joe says hopefully it is the Radiation and not the Chemo because it will wipe you out. Matt says luckily he is young and healthy and it wouldn't be as bad as it would be if he were older and not as healthy or active as someone else. Big Joe asks Matt where the Tumor is. Matt says it is in the right temporal lobe of the brain, Matt says approximately by his right ear back around that area. Big Joe asks Matt if the tumor is "Surface" and Matt says it is, but it isn't. He says it is in an operable area and it isn't near the brain stem. Matt says it isn't the best area he guesses. Big Joe wishes Matt luck and says the one thing he knows is he will find out who his real friends are. Joe says, he told people not to treat him different, if they want to call him an asshole they can call him an asshole, he says if people wanted to make fun of him for having a brain tumor he says go ahead. Matt says he is the same way.
J.P. asks Matt if he has thought about what will happen afterwards. Matt says of course he says there were question marks all over the board. Matt says he questioned weather or not he would wrestle again, and he was told he can't or he won't but he says that does not really matter to him. Matt says he plans on beating this 100% and he plans on wrestling again 100%. Matt says he thinks it will be just a matter of time. Big Joe asks if Matt would maybe be an announcer or manager if he couldn't wrestle. Matt says he would love to stay in the mix somehow but he loves performing. He says though whatever it is he would love to stay around the sport. They then take some questions from the Chat room.
The first question that is asked is what Matt thinks of how they built up Johnny Jeter in a very intense Angle and then only had him cut his hair and turned him into a member of the spirit squad. Matt says that was the highlight of his stay in ovw but he has to disagree a little bit, he says he thinks it is great. He says he thinks Johnny is great as a singles heel performer but he thinks Spirit Squad is doing great. Big Joe says he thinks it is hilarious. Matt says they are the most entertaining thing on Raw and all of sports entertainment. Matt says eventually they are all going to get their chance to show their abilities individually but he says as of right now he thinks it is great.
Joe asks Matt if before he found out about his condition he might have ended up as a member of the Spirit Squad. Matt says he does not think so and before he found out they heard the rumblings of the SS getting started and his name was never included.
The next question is asked, the question is What kind of support people have shown him and what kind of support the wwe has shown him. Matt says the list goes on and on it is unbelievable. He says from people he don't even know to having Dr. Death Steve Williams who is a cancer survivor call him, Jim Ross when he was out and Vince McMahon himself called and said he really felt his speech and said the company was going to stick behind him 100%. He says coming from him that spoke a lot and a lot about the company. Matt says everyone is coming out and it has been nothing but positive for him.
The next question asks if there was any kind of confrontation after the chair shot from Chris Cage. Matt says he has heard that a couple of times but he does not know if it was reported wrong or what. There was never any chair shot. Matt says Cage was his tag team partner in the match and he ended up just hitting him with a stiff forearm shot. Matt says it is like sometimes you see a punch in a boxing match and you go "wow how did that knock that guy out" but it just did. Matt says it just caught him right on the jaw in the right spot and knocked him out cold. Matt say Chris is a good friend of his and he was just with him earlier in the night. Matt says Chris is another guy, he felt sorry after the thing but to tell the truth it probably saved his life. Otherwise he would have never known the thing was there.
They mention the Big Joe's Tumor and how he didn't even know till he had lost his vision and within 10 minutes of him being out of the anesthesia he had it back and it was like a whole new world. Matt says that is amazing, Joe mentions during the day he is a cop and how his vision is important but it went gradually away. Big Joe talks a little more but then says that is enough about him. Joe mentions he has the same disease as the Big Show and that killed Andre The Giant. Joe says their is no doubt in his mind Matt will pull through this and he will be the WWE Champion someday. J.P. mentions the Hardcore Holly incident. He says he gives Matt credit for taking a beating and sticking with it.
Matt says people hit him with that question all the time ,what he thinks about Bob Holly and he says at the time he wasn't smart to the business at all and he was coming in as a fan and he didn't know what was going on. Matt says an old school guy that that sees a kid coming in a game show winner practically and it wasn't going to be a walk in the park and that is what he was getting into. He says he don't' necessarily agree with how it happened but it isn't something he is all upset about. Matt says it was just a bump in the road.
J.P. mentions there is talk of WWE relaunching ECW and using some of the OVW guys. J.P. asks Matt if he went back to OVW would he want to be a part of it. Matt says he would love to, he says any chance he has to work with Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer he'd have to jump at that. Matt says he hasn't heard but he don't know if it is confirmed he says he knows they are going to mix it up a bit and says if they give some of the developmental guys a shot that would be great.
The next question is if Matt was a fan when he was growing up and who were some of his favorite wrestlers. Matt says he was a big fan and his dad used to take him to the shows. He says some of his favorite were Piper, Jimmy Snuka and British Bulldog. Joe asks if Matt has had a chance to work with any of them. Matt says no and mentions 2 weeks ago OVW did something with Jimmy Snuka and Matt wasn't there and he really wanted to meet him. Matt mentions how some of the guys he got to see in wrestling while he was in high school and college and getting to meet them now and work with them now and it is right where he wants to be since he was a kid.
J.P. mentions Bob Holly again and asks how the rest of the locker room took to him. Matt says everyone was great, he says you go through the initial process everyone wants to see what this new kids attitude is like and how he carries himself. Matt says it is just about earning peoples respect and being respectful and going about their business. Matt says he does not think he has ever had a problem being disrespectful. Matt says people mind their P's and Q's and as long as you don't get ahead of yourself or get cocky for where they are. Matt says he was more then grateful for where he is and he said it is somewhere most people don't get to get.
Someone in the Chat asks if Matt ever had a run in with JBL. Matt says no. He says the guys mess with you when you are new but no one was out to get him. He says you hear the stories about the guys and he hasn't seen it. He says he can't confirm or deny it but he hasn't been around long enough. The host mentions it is like joining any sports team there is going to be always some kind of hazing. It happens. Matt says especially in a business like this. He says sometimes you need to do something to keep your sanity and to keep your spirits high.
Joe asks What was the biggest rib Matt has ever had done to him. Matt says he does not know, he has been on alert for a long time. He says he has had a couple cut off before they could happen. He says this isn't a challenge to anyone listing. Big Joe jokes that they are really going to bust his balls now. Matt says no one has really gotten him bad yet and if they have he wouldn't want to say to give them satisfaction.
The next question asks who Matt likes watching now. Matt says he was a big Ken Kennedy fan but it didn't last too long because unfortunately Ken got hurt. He says he loves watching Kurt. Matt says he is a big Shawn Michaels. The host asks if Matt ever got to work with Ken and Matt says yeah he worked with Ken a lot down in OVW. The next question would be who his dream match is. Matt says he has to say Piper and he says he was always so entertained by Pipers Pit. Matt says he would also like to throw Heenan in there. They mention Heenan is also a Cancer survivor. Someone in the chat asks if he learned anything specific working with Ivory in Tough Enough. Matt says he learned a lot from everyone. He says it was weird. He was so new and he knew so little. He said he was like a sponge picking things up and he says she laid the groundwork for a lot of things that went on backstage.
J.P. asks Matt what it was like to receive the call that he would be on TE. Matt says it was weird because he was in college and he just finished football. Matt says he missed the deadline for Tough Enough 2 and he almost missed it for Tough Enough 3 as well. He says he had a feeling about it and when they called he said he knew it was it and he knew it was gonna happen. He says he knew it was it. He says it was surreal. Matt says he didn't have any training and he only played college football before. The host asks if if Tough Enough gets them near anywhere ready. He says the Training for Tough Enough was grueling. He says the Physical part definitely prepared him. Matt says he can't describe it. He says the energy is hard to describe. He says thats what makes people want to keep going and not want to stop.
The next Question is if Matt ever got to meet Eddie and what he thought of him. Matt says Eddie would have been another dream match. Matt says he was fortunate enough to get to talk to him a few times. He says Eddie was a great guy and he says it is very sad and that Eddie touched a lot of people and says anyone who knew Eddie was better off for just knowing him. Matt says the few conversations with him he cherishes.
The next question is about Tommy Dreamer Caining him and Johnny Nitro. Matt says yes and actually he was in Chicago and he says he was there for WM and he ran into Tommy and Tommy mentioned it to him. The Host mentions it is a great thing to have on your resume. Matt says it was great and so electric but he didn't feel to much, but he did the day after. J.P. asks what has been Matt's favorite match and sticks out to him. Matt says when he had won the OVW Championship down against Jeter. He says it was a 2 out of 3 falls and Heyman built up their match great and Paul put it together amazing and it was the culmination of a great angle. The host mentions Matt teaming with Mike Mizanin and the host calls him a "reality show whore" saying he has been on every reality show ever made, He says it would have been a great tag team with a reality background. Matt says they were in the works to be a team and when he found out about the tumor is when they were originally supposed to fly to stanford to film their vignettes. He said the Day before he called and said he has a little problem and does not think he would be flying to stanford.
J.P. asks if Matt is involved with any of the Charities. Matt says he has been doing some speaking stuff at local churches but not involving money yet. He says just recently up on the website he offered some of his OVW T-shirts up for sale with the proceeds going to a children's cancer center in jacksonville Florida. They mention the site Matt-Cappotelli.com . Big Joe says they have the link on the site and that does go to a great cause.
Big Joe says he has two more quick questions before they go to break. The first is what does Matt's wife thing of wrestling and is she a fan. Matt says yeah she was a fan, but he is saying she isn't anymore. He says when he met her she was just starting to get away from it and she didn't really know who he was and he mentions she was into it when DX was around and got away from it for a little while but she got back into it when she met him. The next question is about being a Christian while living the life of a wrestler. Matt says it was one of his main concerns and he asked himself if he was going to have to compromise his beliefs. He says Being a Christian anywhere isn't really that easy He says that it is just a matter of standing up for what you believe in. He says something he always sticks by is Whats right is not always popular whats popular is not always right. He says it is just something you have to stick by, He says who he is and what he is about is more important that anything he can do in wrestling and if not he will have to figure something else out. They cut out to a commercial break.
After the break they Interview Jackie Gayda with Matt still on the line. After the interview with Jackie, they ask Matt if he has anything left to say and he says he urges anyone to take a look at his website and buy a t-shirt the money goes to a good cause and if they don't want to buy a shirt or want to donate some money that would be good also. He says it is very much appreciated.
