Pro's from the Palace (#105) - RAW thoughts - ECW Fall Out & more

Three columns in three days. This is what happens when you're out of work with an illness and have time to write legibly. Damn, should happen more often.

Just watched Raw from start to finish. I have some points I'd like to share.

WWE.com said the status of the title situation would be addressed. Now, I have to admit, after reading the article on the website, I thought there would be a chance that the WWE would've done some sort of political screw job to Van Dam, and put the title up for some tournament. Obviously after seeing the initial segment with Heyman, it's simple to see what they did. ECW rules. ECW decision. Final. Official. Van Dam is the champion, and it will be re-christened the ECW title during the premiere on Sci-Fi. Ok. So sunday night is taken care of. However badly I may dislike it, it is done, and we can move on.

Now I honestly thought there would be some form of a statement from McMahon about the lack of a "champion" on Raw. I would've figured primarily Van Dam would compete on the ECW television shows, and there would be some form of a package put together to crown a new Raw champion. Instead, Van Dam is in the main event for Vengenance in two weeks against Edge. Confusing as hell, if you ask me, especially if they re-do the belt as they say they're going to do. WIll it be the WW/ECW title as the internet columnists have been writing, will it be the "World title", or some other connotation, or will an "ECW World title" be defended at a WWE Raw PPV? I know I am contradicting myself when I say this, but this is getting a little ridiculous.

I got an email tonight from a friend of mine who mentioned about the time when Brock Lesnar had the belt and defected to Smackdown exclusively, forcing the creation of a Raw title. Is that what's going to be the case with Van Dam? Is Van Dam going to defend the title on Raw and ECW shows? Because quite frankly, if that's the case, there's a man from San Diego, California who's gotten his ass handed to him over the last week who would probably have something to say about that, as it would significantly devalue his championship to the hilt.

Don't get me wrong, I think I kind of like this confusion, this cross-brand fighting between ECW and both sides of WWE. Angle vs. Orton again in a WWE style ring at Vengenance, well, it may be repetitive, but it still will be effective from a quality perspective. An ECW Rob Van Dam defending a world title in a WWE ring is grounds for something chaotic to say the least, and that, for no other reason, is extremely refreshing, because it bears an aura of unpredictability. At least, for now.

I would suspect things to get more interesting as the shows progress in to Vengenance, and ECW launches on Sci Fi and proceeds down the road. It could be very, very, entertaining to watch. The seeds have definitely been planted.

On to other business. How happy am I to see the NATURE BOY back on Raw? WHOOOOOOOOOOO! Ric Flair, stylin' and profilin'. I can't ask him to retire yet, he just got remarried. So, what are we going to do with the 16 time World champion? 2 out of 3 falls with Mick Foley. Wow. Look, both men are legends, no questions asked. Both men are hall of famers, no questions asked. But, could you hear a pin drop at the Penn State University complex where Raw was tonight, or was it just me?

Ok. One person who does need to retire, and now, is Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Duggan, you're a legendary performer, and quite possibly a hall of famer, but you look pitifully bad against anybody from this era. Umaga is not exactly a scientific wonder, but damn, could you reduce yourself any lower to be a squash toy for a cheap ripoff of Samoa Joe?

Question. Where in the hell does Johnny Nitro have a singles resume worthy of an Intercontinental title shot, triple threat or not? I'm a Nitro fan. I'm a Melina fan. But, can we have the man win some more matches before getting a singles title shot, please?

Are we going to be forced to have to submit to Viscera vs. Charlie Haas? Is WWE that desperate to get more people on board by subjecting us to this program based on an accident from the previous week? Not to mention the fact that Haas has no chance whatsoever in doing any sort of major damage to Big Vis. What happened to the so called program with Shelton Benjamin? One win, and Haas is back in the back burner languishing as fish bait for guys like Umaga. Damn, does that gimmick suck (Umaga's.)

Ok. Love the divas. Love them all. Torrie, Candice, Trish, Ashley, the whole lot of them. Can we stop with the wrestling matches until they have a clue what they're doing? Outside of Lita, Victoria, and Mickie James, NONE OF THEM CAN WRESTLE! Please, I've been keeping my mouth clenched on this for long enough, STOP THE WOMEN'S DIVISION UNTIL THEY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING, FOR PETE'S SAKE!

Now, on to a major positive point. Was it as predictable as I thought the 5 on 1 match with Triple H and the Spirit Squad? Personally, I thought it was. Even the crowd did, chanting for HBK even before his entrance. But, Go**amn, was that a brilliant segment with the Game and the Heartbreak Kid reuniting? I'm sorry, I was pumped up from the first minute I saw those two guys look at each other, and then proceed to throw green and white missiles out of the ring. I can't wait to see what happens next with DX vs. the Boss. And Trips mooning the chairman, damn, what a show of guts. I hope he doesn't pay for that in political capital in the back.

And I'm sorry, ladies and gentlemen, I loved the end of the show. Yeah, you had to think Edge was going to take the high road after One Night Stand, and the fact that he is so badly hurt following the tag match and the singles match with Dreamer last week. And yeah, Richards, Balls, and Justin Credible were obviously going to get in to the fracas in some way, shape, or form, and be subjected to God knows what, as witnessed by Credible's AWFUL sell job of the chair shot from Cena. But, still, it was very cool how they ended Raw tonight, and, I think Cena as the hunter will take his game to the next level in a way nobody is prepared for. And, I'm firmly on the bandwagon to go for the ride, ladies and gentlemen, and especially my good friend Slim, who is probably right now laughing his ass off at me for saying this. TOUGH LUCK, KID. I'M NOT CHANGING MY ALLEGIANCE FOR NUTHIN'!.

Raw was cool tonight ladies and gentlemen. I can't wait to see what ECW does tomorrow, or should I say, later tonight.
