Breakdown of WWE fourth quarter earnings; live event, PPV, TV, more
On Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at 3:11 PM EST World Wrestling Entertainment released their fourth quarter earnings earlier today. Here is a breakdown of sorts of the notes included in the release:
- WWE held four pay per view events in this quarter (ending April 30) compared to three last year. The company banked $800,000 more in total revenue. The Royal Rumble PPV did 564,000 buys in both 2005 and 2006. No Way Out did 239,000 buys last year and dropped to 224,000 buys this year. WrestleMania, which the company set a one million buy goal for the show this year, did 925,000 buys this year, down from the 983,000 buys from last year. The only thing that kept the PPV business ahead of last year was the extra event, WWE Backlash. That event only did 215,000 buys, down considerably from the 276,000 buys from last year. International buys were 39% of the company's business compared to 34% last year.
- North American live attendance was up from 5,900 per event last year to 6,200 this year.
- TV rights fees were at $20.6 million compared to $20.4 million last year. WWE took a huge hit in television advertising money, only generating $2.2 million this year compared to $12.5 million in 2005 when the company was on Spike TV and kept their ad sales money. What WWE made ad money on this year were Canadian TV ads and sponsorship deals.
- The WWE 24/7 service generated $500,000 in this quarter. Many expect that number to grow now that WWE has inked a deal with Comcast Cable Systems.
- WWE business on the internet was way up this year. WWE.com revenues increased from $2.1 million to $3.0 million and WWE Shop jumped from $1.3 million to $2.9 million.
We will also have a report up shortly covering the WWE Conference Call held earlier today as well.
