Pro's from the Palace (#108) - RAW thoughts on Vince, DX, PPV, Cena
On Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 10:14 AM EST Well, people, here's a stretch. Raw thoughts, and I think, for me, POSITIVE SPINS on all of it.
Vince may be the sickest mother effer on the planet, but anyone with the cohones to say what he did at the opening segment and pull off the stuns that he pulled with the ancillary talent has to be either one creative sonofabitch, or definitely en route to a whopper of a nervous breakdown. While I didn't like the comment on his daughter, this is the same man who practically choked out his daughter in a match, and made out in front of his wife with a model turned wrestler, so as the saying goes, "Anything can happen in the WWE." Besides, it was awfully predictable how the whole thing was played out, but, when the predictable became reality, and it was obvious that DX had a hand in the McMahon departure, you have to admit, it was as classic DX as classic can be.
I am kind of bummed that DX reforms to face the neophyte Spirit Squad, because I would tend to think that these kids are liable to get some pretty big egos for tangling with the big dogs as they are doing. I would definitely suspect some potential sidebar issues on Raw soon after this program is over involving the so called phenom of the Spirit Squad, Kenny Doane. I would have liked to have seen DX go up against someone a bit more seasoned, but let's call it as we see it, these kids haven't got a snowball's chance in Hades in winning this match, and they're going to get initiated in to the world of the WWE like nobody has in some time, and damn, will it be fun to watch.
How cool was it to see Jonathan Coachman's head go through that wall?
I'm sure someone is waiting for me to call the mooning and the spray paint work sophmoric and ludicrous, but truth be told, it is sophmoric and ludicrous, but that's the whole damn point. I can relate to this whole deal because there is a point to all of this. Initiation to the ass kicking of a lifetime by any means necessary, and I can second that motion in every single way possible.
I have to be honest, this PPV card, with maybe one exception, is starting to actually get me interested.
The Intercontinental title triple threat match is stacked. Melina's wild card, Johnny Nitro vs. Shelton vs. Carlito. Shelton and Carlito have a history the size of the Caribbean, and Nitro's wild card will definitely play a part, but all three of these guys can go with the best of them, and I would suspect a major league athletic contest between these players for the strap. I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see Nitro get the belt, which is always cool for me, since he was the winner of the TE season I followed from start to finish.
While I disagree with the promo Foley was putting on out there during the Flair/Edge match, I would not be the least bit surprised to see this 2 of 3 fall contest be very intense for the beginning until their ages catch up with them. I also would not be the least bit surprised to see Flair win the match, because I can see Foley letting Flair go over in his hometown. Flair's got something to prove. Foley doesn't.
Any match involving Kurt Angle is going to be brutal, and vicious, and down right intense, and I will always look forward to that. While I REALLY disagree with double booking this in a "WWE ring" like it is so close from One Night Stand, Angle and Orton can tear the house down with anyone, and I would suspect nothing less.
This double book is good, because it continues to let Cena go hardcore. I would not be surprised in the least to see Cena go after the ECW title, and I think that's terrific. Yeah, I know the traditional ECW fanatic is going to hate me for saying that, but Cena's EDGE, no pun intended, is refreshing, enjoyable, and damn fun to watch. I look for more of the same come Sunday agaisnt Sabu. Both of these men are going to look like wounded soldiers in a MASH unit after this one.
I like how Edge performed in the ECW opening segment with Van Dam, and I loved his retribution last monday night. I would suspect Van Dam to step his game up in a big big way, because this is his time to shine as the champion, and I don't expect him to hold back an ounce. Edge is in for the fight of his life, and hopefully, he'll come out on the short end of the stick. I would really be disappointed if Van Dam is a transitional WWE champion, no matter what I said about the potential confusion with double branding a champion like they are. Let RVD run with the gamut for a while, one way or another, and see what grows. It's DIFFERENT, AND THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS TO ME.
And then obviously, you got the 5 on 2. It looks like Shawn and Trips are having a blast reuniting, and that's just so damn cool to see. I wish it could be for a longer term, but damn, if they're going to go out with a blaze of glory, let them do it as only DX can. And, one last thing on the DX thing. Let's not talk about bringing back Road Dogg, or Billy Gunn, or even X Pac. This is DX 2006 with the true originals at the helm. I wouldn't mind seeing new blood join the frey, like I said before, Nitro & Melina have the perfect pedigree to join a DX Style faction, then there's Shelton, Carlito, or even Charlie Haas. The talent is out there to make a new DX with the same atttitude, and new faces. I hope they roll with that idea, because like I said, it's DIFFERENT, AND THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS TO ME.
So, are you ready? Quick note to my pal, Slim Cullen. Are YOU READY?!?!?!?
Yeah, I'm pumped up.
