When Rick Steiner was elected to the Cherokee County school board last year he used his wrestler name and not his legal name, Robert L. Rechsteiner. As a result he is not on the July Republican primary. Instead he will run a write-in campaign.

He had planned to run as a independent and needed 4,634 signatures of registered county voters to run as a independent. He and volunteers collected about 22 percent of that so far, but he did not want to chance falling short of the July 11th deadline so he qualified Monday as a write-in candidate instead. He is running unopposed.

"I never knew my name would create such havoc, I just want to keep working alongside the other members of the school board and the folks who work daily to teach, lead and help our children." Steiner said. "Now the great volunteers that helped me out in gathering signatures will be helping to get my name written on the ballot, correctly - Robert L. Rechsteiner."
