Pro's from the Palace (#112) - Even the champ can falter...RVD/SABU

You know, you want to feel sad for Sabu and Rob Van Dam for making this type of mistake. But, then you look at the situations like what was involved with Eugene, Chris Masters, Joey Mercury. All of them were trying to keep up with the schedule via any means necessary, and took the liberties of taking way too much medication than needed to keep their bodies in shape.

Then there is WWE's so called drug policy, which, from where I sit, is nothing more than a pile of papers and horse manure that is out there primarily to please the soft fan who thinks that most wrestlers are doped up dreads to begin with.

Then take in to consideration the fact that RVD has been given the opportunity to run with the company on his back, AND Sabu has been given the chance to showcase his talents on NATIONAL TELEVISION, not Spike TV, not PPV, NATIONAL TELEVISION, and this type of situation occurs.

Is it sadness I feel for these men, or pity, or rage for being so stupid? It could be sadness because I've met Van Dam twice, and he's been nothing but a gentlemen toward my family during those two autograph sessions, I have his autograph on my WCW Big Gold, and my WWE Intercontinental replica titles. It could be pity because its obvious Vince McMahon doesn't see the writing on the wall with so many people dropping like flies to injuries and drug issues that maybe his schedule just possibly could be too damn hard on the human body!

But truthfully, I think rage is the proper feeling here, because both of these men, whether under the influence or not, should have realized prior to taking the medication or alcohol, or whatever, that speeding in a car down a state highway in any state in this union is liable to get you in to a lot of trouble. And then, to top it off, when your car smells like a pot breeding ground, well, ladies and gentlemen, its grounds for one major league career setback.

I'm a Van Dam fan. I'm a Sabu fan. I enjoy watching both of these men compete. I watched Sabu/Abyss in Barbed Wire Massacre just the other night. Their intensity and athleticism in the ring is unparalleled. I was thrilled for Van Dam, even at the expense of my favorite wrestler, John Cena, I was still thrilled for Van Dam to have his moment in the sun as WWE and ECW Champion.

It's quite clear however that the sun has set, and this moment for both of these men, is quickly coming to an end. A tragic, disgusting end, that could've been avoided on both individual's parts.

In closing, I pray two things. And yes, I said the word pray. I pray that Rob Szatkowski and Terry Brunk get their lives in order and return to society as drug free individuals. And I also pray that Vincent Kennedy McMahon gets the shoe out of his ass and decides to finally look in to the safety and well being of his performers, before someone else tragically has the same fate as a recent Smackdown superstar did.
