The decision to pull the WWE and ECW titles off of Rob Van Dam over the last two days wasn't a huge surprise to many within the company seeing as The Associated Press put out a wire story about both RVD and Sabu getting busted this past weekend. The New York Post also mentioned the bust today at this link. With that kind of publicity it pretty much makes it impossible for WWE to ignore the issue, especially when they touted the new WWE Wellness Policy earlier this year in February. Ignoring the situation all together would cause WWE to lose a lot of credibility.

On a related note, the reason Rob Van Dam and Sabu were driving in the opposite direction of Philadelphia when they were busted on Sunday was because they were heading to Columbus, OH to fly to Philadelphia on a flight WWE booked for them following the ECW House Show in Huntington, WV. It should also be noted that while the officer smelled marijuana when he pulled RVD over for speeding, he did not cite RVD with driving under the influence.

We are expecting a statement from WWE regarding the status of Rob Van Dam and Sabu some time later today.
