Tons of details on MTV picking up 'Wrestling Society X', talent and more
On Monday, July 10, 2006 at 3:23 PM EST As reported yesterday, MTV has made the decision to pick up the Big Vision Entertainment "Wrestling Society X" pilot and the show will now become a full fledged series on the network this year.
MTV has yet to issue an official press release about the project, but are expected to do so after contacting wrestlers affiliated with the original pilot on July 7 that they would be picking up the show and their contracts. Wrestlers still involved with the promotion after the original pilot taping back in April in Los Angeles includes Sean Waltman (who went by Six Pac at the TV taping), Vampiro, Jack Evans, Matt Sydal, Teddy Hart, Alter Boy Luke, Lone Star and Kaos. Additional talent are being discussed by MTV and Big Vision to bring in.
According to reports, the series is currently being designed to run four seasons with a set of 15 half hour programs being taped over a two week span in Los Angeles. Wrestlers involved will be paid for the tapings and will also be paid booking and appearance fees for live events as well. Although it remains to be seen if this same goal is in mind this time around, the original idea was to incorpoate live bands with the wrestling events. The pilot taping in April featured the band Black Label Society playing live throughout the entire show.
The WSX promotion as a whole will carry a very underground, "Fight Club" look to it as the original pilot was taped in a Los Angeles warehouse designed to look like a rundown club. One report even described it as CBGB's meeting the ECW Arena. The entire crowd at the pilot stood around the ring so it had a mosh pit feel to it. The ring was also designed to look makeshift by carrying a dirty look, no mats around the outside, no aprons so you could see under the ring and turnbuckles that had dirty rags taped in each corner. The first pilot TV taping had the following take place which looks to be the first episode to air on MTV soon:
- Jack Evans vs. Matt Sydal.
- Black Label Society performance.
- Over The Top Rope Elimination Ladder Match with 2 WSX contracts hanging above the ring featuring: Six "Sean Waltman" Pac, Vampiro, Teddy Hart, New Jack, Lone Star, Kaos, Puma, Al Katrazz, Justin Credible and Chris Hamrick. Eliminations during the match were described as being thrown over the top rope through a table or onto an "exploding" fence.
