1PW report from Hull, England, XCW on July 28 report + AWA Kentucky

1PW Devil's Due report from The Gemtec Arena, Hull, England.
By Kevin Malton of www.wrestlerevolt.cjb.net
The aproximate crowd of 1,000 was hot all night.
Before the show, it was announced that Matt "Spike Dudley" Hyson couldn't make the show due to travel problems.
Dark match:
Dan Head beat Harry Mills following a diving headbutt.
(1) Darkside beat Yoshinobu Kanemura, Takashi Sugiura, Chris Hero, Dragon Aisu & El Ligero in a six man elimination match.
After the match, Sterling James Keenan confronted Darkside and asked him to join his stable. Darkside refused, and in the impromptu match that followed, Keenan pinned Darkside.
(2) Kikutaru beat The Blue Meanie.
This was a comedy match featuring Meanie Hulking up and plenty of spots with the referee.
(3) Darren Burridge beat Andy Simmonz via submission.
Burridge was super over but failed to show anything promising in this average bout.
(4) Southern Comfort beat Team Supreme when Chris Hamrick pinned Dave Moralez.
This match also featured a dance off between the two teams. Hamrick has the ability but not the look. Decent tag match.
(5) Iceman beat Ulf Herman in a No DQ match.
Hardcore style match with weapons and thumbtacks etc. The ending made no sense as Herman had destroyed Iceman throughout the match only to be pinned so easily. They brawled afterwards to be pulled apart by security. Crowd was hot for this match, and as the hardcore match on the card served its purpose.
(6) Samoa Joe beat Martin Stone w/Jay Phoenix.
Martin Stone was revealed as Jay Phoenix's "Euro Monster". Joe was super over. A great, stiff match. The ussual spots from Samoa Joe. Phoenix interfred/distracted the referee throughout but Joe got the pin after hitting the muscle buster. Afterwards Joe got on the mic and challenged Phoenix but he declined.
(7) Jody Fleisch & Jonny Storm beat Sterling James Keenan & Spud to retain the 1PW tag team titles.
Keenan was announced as Spud's partner - the pair have been feuding recently in 1PW but Spud had no choice but to accept as his original partner, Matt Hyson, no showed. Keenan predicatbly turned on Spud and walked out on him near the end of the match. Spud took some awesome looking bumps and has the right look for the underdog gimmick.
(8) Steve Corino pinned AJ Styles in a Double Jeopardy match to reatin the 1PW world title.
The deal was that Corino had to wrestle Doug Williams and Styles had to wrestle Abyss, at the same time in the same ring with the winner of each "match" facing each other in the final. A referee for each pair. A unique match that was solid. Corino pinned WIlliams and Styles beat Abyss via DQ after he chokeslammed the referee. Corino pinned Styles with a roll up. Crowd were hot and split 50/50 between Corino and Styles. Great atmosphere. After the match, Abyss came down with a chair wrapped in barbed wire and attacked Corino with it. Corino juiced heavily. Souther Comfort (Hamrick & Smothers) came down to Corino's aid.
Show time was nearly four hours including intermission. Crowd was hot all night, especially for Samoa Joe and the main. No five star matches but hard work by all. Styles deserves kudos for his efforts as he gave his all despite wrestling in the states last night.
Ulf Herman was watching the main event from the stands (what happened to kayfabe...he had just lost a hardcore match!) and Jay Phoenix was wandering around the arena all night - a couple of things that bugged me.
