Pro's from the Palace (#124) - Opinions: WWE's schedule & Kurt Angle
» Reported by Mike Siciliano of WrestleView.com

Chris Jericho.

Chris Benoit.

and now, Kurt Angle.

What do all three of these men have in common, ladies and gentlemen? All three of these men have had their careers cut short, or stopped entirely due to the dedication they have provided to World Wrestling Entertainment in lieu of a schedule that would make a slave driver seem almost human.

For 48 plus hours, I was without phone service, which meant I was without internet service. Yes, I am archaic, I still have dialup, but I'm working on it, but moving on, the first thing, or nearly the first thing that my wife sees when she gets back on the 'net is Angle being released. She practically jumped through the roof of my house, and for that matter, it kind of saddened me to death.

Why? Simple. Kurt Angle shortened his career in the pro wrestling ranks because of a stubborn head, dedication, and overwork. Yes, I could certainly blame Angle for not taking care of himself and keeping himself as close to injury free as possible, but in this business, how can you stay injury free? And then, the next question, when you get hurt, and you don't perform, you don't get paid. So, where's the reason for staying off the road to rehab injuries? There is none. Yeah, I know, superstars have their contracts and their personal appearances and this and that and the other thing, but the fact still remains, World Wrestling Entertainment's schedule is single handedly killing off the top talents on ALL THREE brands.

You can't tell me that if there was AN ASSEMBLANCE of a lighter schedule that talents like Jericho and Benoit would not be back competing.. You can't tell me that if there was SOME FORM OF FLEXIBILITY within the WWE schedule that maybe, just maybe, Stone Cold could still be a part, or even the Rock, while filming, could be a part of the product. 3 to 4 house shows a week, with pay per views per month, and TV tapings, one to three a week, there's simply no time to breathe for these people, and now, for the first time, it's taken a TRUE MAJOR TOLL on the talent roster of WWE.

Jericho said when he left he would come back, when the time was right. However, if you see and hear him now, it doesn't sound at all like he is planning a return anytime soon. Benoit, there hasn't been much from the camp of the Rabid Wolverine, and I am not surprised at all, because he has to be hurting like nobody's business. And now, we have Angle, the marquis name behind the blossoming new brand of ECW, saying how fried he is physically and mentally, and he can't go in to a ring without having to take perscription medication.

Sorry, folks. I ain't blaming Kurt. I'm blaming Vince.

Vince should be allowed to make the most money he can, but why do it at the expense of his talent? I know the talent pays a price day in day out at every single show, but when there is a show literally almost 7 days a week, when does the talent cash in its rewards on all its hard work?

I could continue on this rampage for the better part of forever, but the fact remains, Vince McMahon is not going to change his ways because of the loss of Kurt Angle. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the most frightening part of this equation, because Vince McMahon does not comprehend the loss of a talent like Kurt Angle. He feels WWE will go on, and it will, but will it be just as good without the Wrestling Machine?

My guess is, No.

I have some very fond memories of meeting Kurt Angle. Specifically, the first time, when my son was able to tell him about the time he was rolling around in a wheelchair in the hospital after one of his surgeries singing "You Suck" to anyone that would listen. Kurt Angle was the consummate professional in the couple of times I have had the pleasure of meeting him. Whether you loved him or hated him in the ring, he was possibly one of the best ever. I am extremely saddened by the loss of Kurt Angle from the WWE, and I believe that Kurt Angle finally took it upon himself to make himself happy, and I wish him nothing but the best in his future. Hopefully, Kurt Angle will return to WWE someday in a role less physical to ensure that his fans can allow themselves the opportunity to see the Olympic Champion entertain them some more, but until then,

Good luck Kurt. You will be missed. By every single wrestling fan alive.

I know for sure by this one.
