Pro's from the Palace (#126) - Unforgiven Pix & a reply to WWE Magazine
On Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 11:04 AM EST There's a few things I think I want to address, and first before going in to the picks for tomorrow night's Unforgiven, I'd like to tell you guys a little story.
I picked up the new WWE magazine, with Cena on the cover because if you're a reader of my work, you know that I am a huge Cena mark, and as bad as I think the movie is going to do financially, I am still looking forward to seeing "The Marine" when it comes out in October. Well, by doing so, and on a slightly off topic note, the new magazine format is so much easier to read, IMHO, I read a piece from Triple H who was bashing the internet and the so called dirt sheets on pro wrestling.
Ladies and gentlemen, I am not a pro wrestler. I don't intend on becoming a pro wrestler. I am a fan. Just like you, and everyone else who reads my work who may like or dislike my opinion. And that's all that it is. If by any time I am told by the powers that be that I am doing anything else but stating my opinion, then, I hang up my pen, and find something else to write about. I enjoy the business. I enjoy watching the sport. I enjoy forecasting the storylines, even when they're as stupid as they have been lately inside of WWE.
I will never sit here and say to anyone that I know and you don't. I will never sit down and say to anyone that it's either my way or the highway. What I am is simple. I am a fan of the sport who has been lucky enough to gather an opportunity to write about it, and have it read by, astonishingly, a great deal of people from around this planet. I hope, when you read this piece and more to come, you remember that.
I felt I needed to say that after reading the Triple H interview in the magazine, and how badly he ripped on the "dirt sheets" to which this one could be possibly classified as. ( I definitely don't want to say it is, cause the boss will kill me. )
Ok. Let's move on to Unforgiven tomorrow night. Truth be told, this card is actually looking good. Two stip matches for main events, and significant stips at that, Trish's farewell, a WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH, (GASP!), and the return to WWE PPV of Jeff Hardy. Let's do this.
KANE vs. UMAGA
Ok, let me right now state my opinion of Umaga. Estrada, I love him. I think he's great. He's the perfect mouthpiece for this monster, and he can use the mike with the best of him. Umaga, at first, I thought he was a cheap knock off of Samoa Joe without the words, but as fate would have it, he's growing on me. What I like with this feud, A LOT, is the brief encounters Kane and Umaga have had, it's been right in each other's faces, and let's see who's standing at the end. The cowardice thing kind of bugs me in feuds, but there's none of that here.
This match will be B-R-U-T-A-L. It will not be pretty, it will be bowling shoe ugly. Can Kane pin Umaga? Indeed. Will he? I'm not sure. I think it may be a no contest kind of deal to keep the feud going further. I can't really choose who could win the match because it's kind of workable in either facet if one or the other wins.
WINNER: No contest
RANDY ORTON vs. CARLITO
If the rumours are true that Orton violated the wellness program again, he has to be on very shaky ground with WWE brass. That could taint this match, I would think. On paper, it's a war between two of the best young stars WWE has to offer. I would tend to think that they would put Orton over here, to help rebuild him after subjecting him to the yellow and red last month at Summerslam. However, as I said eariler, this potential political pratfall with Orton may be his undoing, and with that hanging over his head, he may never be able to sniff the World title again. At least, for certain, in my opinion, I think that pratfall will stop him from winning this match.
WINNER: Carlito
WWE Women's Championship
LITA vs. TRISH STRATUS
It's a shame that Trish is retiring. It's nice that WWE gives her a chance to go out as a champion. I kind of think that she will, too. I don't think that there is a lot of competition left for the women's championship, so I would tend to lean toward the opportunity of having Stratus win it, and temporarily put the title on the shelf until some of the current divas are more wrestling-seasoned. It is the proper way for WWE to show their appreciation for a tremendous amount of sacrifice for the past seven years. And it allows them the opportunity to give the women's division the time it needs to recover from such a significant loss of talent.
WINNER: Trish Stratus
WWE Intercontinental Championship
JOHNNY NITRO vs. JEFF HARDY
I thought it was a lock for Hardy to win this match, but thinking further about it, Hardy is not ready to take the IC title yet. No, he is ready from an experience standpoint, however, I would consider it a shock that his first feud coming out of his return to WWE would result in a championship victory. Nitro has been shown to be a rookie with this feud with Hardy, but the fact that Hardy just needs more time to rebuild his reputation inside a WWE ring before he could be considered for a title, especially a singles one.
WINNER: Johnny Nitro
World Tag Team Championship
THE SPIRIT SQUAD vs. THE HIGHLANDERS
Remember a while back that there was talk on the sheets about the Spirit Squad breaking up? Then, shortly afterward, McMahon dumped them from the storyline with Michaels and the Game, albeit quietly, and now, they have a legitimate challenger for the championship. I like Rory and Robbie. I'll be honest, they're young to the game on Raw, and they have a title shot, but that's the way they did it with the Spirit Squad, and there really is not anyone else out there to take the titles from the cheerleaders. It's time for a shake up in the tag team division, and let's start it with the Scotsmen winning the belts on Raw.
WINNERS: The Highlanders
Hell in a Cell
VINCE & SHANE McMAHON & ECW Champion BIG SHOW vs. D-GENERATION X
It's obvious here what's going to happen. DX will get beaten up badly by Big Show, but when the chips fall where they will, DX will come out on top. They have light years of experience inside Hell in a Cell, and the McMahons and Big Show do not. Vince will bleed like a stuck pig, Shane will probably bleed, as will Big Show, but the deal is the deal. Trips and Shawn have all the experience in this match, and regardless of how badly they got beaten at Raw this past monday, I would be absolutely shocked if the McMahons win this match. I think that this feud, albeit the fact that I've enjoyed it, but I think this feud needs to end, and end it should inside the cell.
WINNERS: DGeneration X
WWE Championship - TLC Match
EDGE vs. JOHN CENA
We all know the stips. Cena loses, he goes to Smackdown. When this was announced, both my wife and I agreed that, however much this pains me to say it, but Cena was losing and going to Smackdown. Smackdown needs a new top babyface, because Batista has not shown the ability to carry the brand as the top man, which is why he is not the champ yet. And, all things considered, we all know how Cena overcomes the odds, but this one almost seemed too much for even Cena to overcome. Now, with this new spoiler that was released that WWE has no plans for Edge to win in Toronto, it makes me think again. Do I want Cena to win the title? More than life itself. But, do I want Cena to go to the show where I have more of a chance to watch it live? Well, yes. I do. My schedule doesn't allow me the chance to watch Raw live, but I would have that chance with Smackdown. WWE would be better off with Cena on Smackdown to lead that brand down the road while its younger talent core continues to grow. Will there be some sort of swerve where Edge takes the ball and runs to Smackdown? Maybe. If Lita lost, and Edge lost, maybe they get fried, and leave in a huff.
This is absolutely killing me to do, but....
WINNER: Edge
Edge stays on Raw as champ, and Cena goes to Smackdown. Man, I know one guy on Myspace that is sitting here with his jaw on the floor wondering what I am thinking writing that.
Damn, that one hurt.
Time to go.

Beaucoup c, I can't do the line. It's not fair to do it. I am ashamed that I am not picking my favorite to win, but it is my opinion, and I will stick by it, no matter how much it hurts.
