Jason Frost sent in the following report of Cleveland All-Pro Wrestling on Sports Time Ohio:
Cleveland All-Pro Wrestling power hour episode 1
Match #1: Johnny Gargano vs Leo Salvador
We start our show with former tag team partners going to war once again. This is a cruiserweight style match with two of the smaller CAPW stars in the ring. Johnny G controlled the start with lots of kicks to Salvador followed by a back cracker. Gargano then chokes Salvador in the corner. Gargano sets Salvador up on the top rope but Salvador reverses for a tornado DDT which Gargano counters with a neck breaker to the knee. Gargano taunts the crowd and goes to the top rope for a frog splash but misses. Salvador hits a dropkick followed by a standing shooting star but is too hurt to make the cover. Gargano and Salvador then go back and forth with shots to the head. Both men go into a succession of move reversals until Salvador hits a stunner but only gets two. Salvador misses an enziguiri but is successful with another dropkick. He then goes for a huricarana but it gets turned into a running Liger bomb by Gargano. Gargano then follows up with a combo fisherman’s suplex into a twisting fisherman’s buster for a count of two. Not giving up Gargano goes for a suplex again but it gets reversed to an Asai DDT. Both men get on there feet and attempt several roll up attempts in the midst of the many attempts Johnny Gargano gets Salvador into a full nelson which sets up his finisher the “Uniquely Yours" for the win.
Winner: Johnny Gargano.
Match 2: “Australian Tag Team Match" Chris Cronus & J.T. Lightning w/Crystal Frost (no relation) vs Eastside Eddie & “Simply Sexy" Shawn Blaze
Referee: Bobby Williams
Huge advantage for Cronus and Lightning not just because they are twice as big as their cruiserweight opponents but Crystal is looking quite Basham Brothers era Linda Miles tonight in her attire which has to be a distraction. Bell rings with Lighting and Blaze starting out. A lot of complaining to the ref to start the match by Lightning over the starting lockup but he eventually takes control of Blaze with a side headlock followed by a takedown. J.T. Lightning is described by the commentary team as the godfather of CAPW which I guess is accurate if you’re the boss and head trainer right? Lightning continues to dominate his much smaller opponent until Blaze makes a comeback with a back body drop and several dropkicks and clotheslines for both and some double teams with Eddie leading to Cronus and Lightning taking a powder to the floor. Eventually Cronus and Eddie make their way into the match and Cronus manhandles the much smaller Eddie eventually throwing him out of the ring for Lightning and Frost to take advantage of the underdog. Some would describe Eastside Eddie as playing the “Ricky Morton" Role in the match but it seemed more like he played the Rodney King with the amount of punishment this guy is taking plus even Crystal Frost has a size advantage over the guy. Tony Mamaluke has some competition out there for “wrestler who makes you want to cover your eyes every time he takes a bump" award and Blaze didn’t help by distracting the ref at almost every turn with his complaining to the ref (Robert Gibson never would have done that). Eventually Blaze does get the tag and he does come in like a house of fire until all four were in the ring with Blaze and Eddie taking the upper hand. Blaze eventually calls for the superkick to Cronus but Chris reverses it into an F-5 but instead of pinning Blaze for the win he pulls Blaze up for two and tags in Lightning who sets Blaze up for the superplex which he hits then rolls over and gives Blaze a fisherman’s buster for good measure for the win.
Winners: J.T. Lightning and Chris Cronus
Micheal Cash then interviews JOHNNY GARGANNO on the way to the lockeroom who then tells us the story of the little engine that could. His version ends with him picking up the train in a full nelson doing the “Uniquely Yours" and pinning it for the win. (I guess the engine was supposed to be Leo Salvador or Garganno got hit too hard during the match). Anyway Garganno says he’s moving on and challenged M-Dogg 20 to a match. I love stories.
Main Event: “The War Machine" Rhino vs “The Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe
Maybe Johnny Garganno should have been in this match since if he can beat an engine, two machines should be right down his ally. Crowd is completely split in this match with loud chants of “Joe is gonna kill you" and “Rhino". Lots of mutual respect shown in this match between the two competitors and during the many long stare downs to acknowledge the crowd. The crowd is also giving their respect with an ROH chant. The match starts with many tests of strength and shoulder tackles with no one getting the upper hand but eventually Joe takes Rhino down leading Rhino to go to the outside and grab the mic. He tells Joe that he got lucky with the tackle and that he promised to gore Joe’s ass tonight in the ring. We get more back and forth with Rhino eventually getting the upper hand and hip tossing Joe leading to him leaving the ring. When we come back from commercial Joe has the upper hand pummeling Rhino in the corner. Rhino comes back and does some pummeling of his own and tries to choke Joe with the ropes but gets distracted by the crowd causing Joe to come back once again but he too gets distracted by the crowd causing the two to go back and forth with shots once again. Seemingly the crowd gets behind whoever does not have the upper hand in the match. Joe Irish whips Rhino to the corner and hits a beautiful enzigurie. Rhino goes for the gore on Joe who reverses it into a sleeper but Rhino low blows Joe to get out of the move followed by another and more successful gore which gets Rhino the 1-2-3 for the win. Crowd goes into an ECW chant in honor of Rhino which was then followed by a TNA chant (This crowd doesn’t discriminate do they?) Rhino grabs the mic and says he isn’t going to cuss but that this was one of the greatest matches he’s had in years and that his win was lucky and hopes the two can wrestle again.
Winner: “The War Machine" Rhino
Review: Decent first episode but they need to find a way to tell the back stories of the matches that they are having in the ring and the wrestlers they have but those growing pains are to be expected from a company going from cable access to an actual regional network. The actual in ring matches were very good if you can get past the massive size differences in match #2 and no words are needed for the Joe/Rhino match. I give the show *** (3 stars).
