What a find this interview was. We found Scotty Riggs around on MySpace and sent him an invite to do an interview. We thought it might be a nice name from the not so distant past and an interview with a guy who really hasn't been overdone interview wise. The result? We went for over 2 hours with the guy! Yes, he was that cool!

This transcript covers parts 1 and 2 of Scotty Riggs. There is also a part 3 which will be sent out with our Devon "Crowbar" Storm interview which is also available on the site.

Scotty Riggs
Part 1

- The interview begins with the hosts welcoming Scotty to the show. He talks about what he’s been doing recently. Scotty talks about his injuries and his recent bookings, including working in Dusty Rhodes’ promotion in TCW where he was Dusty’s last World Champion. Scotty also talks about his personal life, but says that he is taking care of himself right now. He says that he misses the fans and has considered getting back into the ring

- Scotty then plugs his My Space page. He loves communicating with the fans through the My Space.

- When talking about The American Males, he talks about the unofficial catchphrase of “It’s not easy, being cheesy" Scotty says that the gimmick was past its time in that the fans were no longer appreciative of simple babyfaces. He said that the ladies loved them, but the male fans did not, but he feels that the team could have worked really well as heels.

- Scotty says that he had a great chemistry with Bagwell, and enjoyed working with him.

- Scotty then talks about his young life in which he played college football, and then talks about how he originally got into wrestling. He then talks about how he met RVD, and how they’ve been friends ever since.

- Scotty then skims over the early days of his wrestling career, and all of the promotions he worked for.

- When talking about the USWA, Scotty says that the fans expected to see new things all since he was working in front of the same crowds all the time. He liked working with different guys and trying to be increasingly competitive with his matches, and compared it to ECW.

- He says that Southern wrestling fans expect more wrestling than sports entertainment. He then goes into to explain the difference between Sports entertainers and great wrestlers, and how the fans react to them. The conversation then switches to John Cena in which Riggs describes how he doesn’t have great wrestling ability, but then says that guys like The Rock, Steve Austin, Chris Benoit, and JBL are the ones that fans will enjoy the most because of their great wrestling ability.

- Scotty Riggs then talks about a conversation that he had with Arn Anderson about how he was going to have to leave and work on his wrestling skill sin order to break out of the stereotype that Bischoff put him in.

- Riggs then goes into great detail about Eric Bischoff’s view of tag teams.

- Riggs then talks about his eye patch that he wore when he was in The Flock and says that it did indeed obstruct his vision, and then tells a funny story about it.

- Scotty then says that his favorite character was his bit with The Flock because the character was closer to him and he was forced to be more wrestling based.

- Riggs then talks about the excessive amount of spots in a match and how it can kill the realism of a wrestling match.

- Scotty then brings up Jerry Lawler, Jake Roberts, Ricky Steamboat, and Brad Armstrong and how they showed him psychology. He also talks about how Brad Armstrong and his brother (Road Dogg) were different, but had the best qualities that the other one lacked. Road Dogg was a great entertainer, and Brad was a great wrestler, but he also says that Brad was very entertaining backstage.

- Riggs then brings up Lex Luger and brings up some of the positive points about Luger that others overlook.

- He then brings up Raven and says that he was one of the best ever, but had too many personal demons to be pushed heavily. He also says that Raven didn’t fit in well with the atmosphere of WCW, as opposed to ECW where he was right at home.

- Scotty then talks about some of the backstage politics in WCW, especially with the older talent not wanting to give up their spots.

- The interview then switches to Rob Van Dam and his recent marijuana bust to which Scotty mentions that the fans already knew what he was doing backstage, and the story probably wasn’t too shocking to them. He also says it won’t hurt Rob because the fans will forget about it, and says its nothing more than bad timing.

- Riggs then talks about his switch from WCW to ECW and how he originally wound up there. He then talks about his big feud with Rob Van Dam that was initially based off of their real life friendship. He says that he trusted Rob when it came to all the spots, and enjoyed the feud.

- He was then asked about The Van Terminator, Scotty says that the first time he did the spot with RVD, it was actually the second time RVD broke his nose. Riggs then said that it couldn’t get any worse than that, so they decided to do the spot on PPV. He then jokes about how Shane stole the Van Terminator.

- He is then asked about the infamous “Clap Song" that he used in ECW. He loves the song, but broke the CD that the song is on and as far as he knows, it doesn’t exist.

- He does actually own the name Scotty Riggs, and then mentions that the name was based off of Mel Gibson’s role from Lethal Weapon.

Part 2

- The second part of this great interview kicks off with Scotty talking about the Monday Night Wars. He says that live TV was the next big step for wrestling, and WCW made the right move by going head to head with Raw with a live show. He said that every Nitro seemed like a big event and it changed Wrestling Television forever.

- Scotty says that the growth of the TV shows was great, but also said it was only a matter of time before egos took over and there would eventually be a downfall.

- The next thing we talk about is Narcissist character. According to him, they wanted him to be different from his Flock character and they wanted him to be a “pretty boy". He says it never took off because he never played the political games, the character never made it.

- When talking about the backstage atmosphere of WCW, he tells the story of when Raven walked out and says that he was there when it happened.

- He says that he got a lot more freedom in ECW, and the injury unfortunately cut him short. He also feels that the TCW had potential to take off and liked working there.

- “I think it’s a shame" is Scotty’s response when the interview shifts to ECW. He feels that it should be separate from the WWE with Heyman in control of the product.
