PWInsider.com is reporting that Smackdown lead writer Alex Greenfield gave his notice to WWE management that he is leaving the creative team to pursue several projects in Hollywood that he had been developing before joining WWE.

Greenfield had written a horror film called "Midnight Movie" that will be starting pre-production in California. He also reportedly has another film script in the development process as well, so these projects were going to make it near impossible for him to continue working full-time for WWE and traveling on the road for TV tapings.

Although WWE management and the McMahons were said to have been unhappy about this news, the early word making the rounds is that because Greenfield was very upfront about leaving and gave specific reasons why, the door will more than likely remain open if he decides to return to WWE down the line. Greenfield will finish up with WWE this week, while Michael Hayes will now head up the Smackdown creative team.
