Pro's from the Palace (#132) - Picks for TNA's Bound For Glory PPV
» Reported by Mike Siciliano of WrestleView.com
» On Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 10:07 AM EST

Let's do this. It's time for TNA's top dog, Bound For Glory. Let's rock this card.

One little addition to the picks, the order in which I write them will be what I think they will appear on the card, with the exception of the Roode/Hoyt matchup.

BOBBY ROODE vs. LANCE HOYT
Roode to introduce his new manager.

Roode had legend after legend gearing for his services. The only one of the crew that I thought could handle a long term committment at Roode's side would be Sherri Martel. If there isn't some sort of loophole to get Scott D'Amore back on television as Roode's guiding force, I am going to go out on a limb and say Martel is the new manager of Bobby "The top free agent" Roode. At least with this top free agent, he can compete, not like the dope on Smackdown. Oops, did I say that?

WINNER: Bobby Roode

To open the paid portion of the PPV, what better way than to rekindle two major league tag team rivalries within TNA...

The NATURALS vs. The JAMES GANG vs. AMERICA'S MOST WANTED vs. TEAM 3D

Ok, this one as a whole is a main event anywhere in the world. Let's run down the resumes. The Naturals, former NWA World Tag Team Champions, with an absolute evil genius behind them in the Franchise, Shane Douglas. Chase Stevens and Andy Douglas on their own have unlimited potential, and could be the rulers of the tag team division for years to come in the National Wrestling Alliance. With the Franchise, that increases their stock 10 fold. Then you have the James Gang. One of two of the most decorated tag teams in all of pro wrestling, name your fed. America's Most Wanted, the most decorated tag team in Total Non Stop Action, and perennial tag team champs or contenders. And then there's Team 3D. For that one, I refer to the previous comment I said about the James Gang, because this is the other of the two teams I was mentioning.

SO, when you get right down to it, this one is going to be a barnburner right out of the gate. Who's got the most to gain and the most to lose here. A lot of it, I would think, depends on the results of the tag team title defense, for this particular reason. If LAX don't win the belts back, AJ & Daniels are going to need a new challenger. If LAX win the belts, either AJ & Daniels go back after them, or this winner would come out of the PPV and go for the gold, as they would certainly be in line for #1 contendership status. Without going into detail about the matchup later, I am going to pick Team 3D to win this match for one reason. AMW & the Naturals have been tag team champions. It appears they may be on the virge of breaking up the James Gang, for what reason I have no idea. If Team 3D is coming in for a push inside of TNA, it's only to get a hold of the gold. And, one way or another, LAX vs. 3D, or AJ & Daniels vs. 3D is something I think every wrestling hardcore fanatic would pay to see.

WINNERS: Team 3D

Loser Gets Fired
LARRY ZYBSZKO vs. ERIC YOUNG

How did Larry Z con his way on to TNA's major PPV card? This one is boggling to me. Young is again, one of the untapped future stars of TNA Wrestling, and "firing" him for any reason outside of health would be absolutely a crime. I don't think Young is hurt, and I do think Larry Z wants out, either temporarily or permanently. This is the way out for Larry Z. He has nothing to prove, and two authority figures never work out, especially for one brand. Cornette is the new authority in TNA, and Larry Z will defer his power to Jarrett, and hope Jarrett can eliminate the Cornette factor, as Young will figure out a way to beat the Living Legend, and send him packing on the first flight home.

Besides, anyone who has the backing of Samoa Joe can't be all bad.

WINNER: Eric Young

Eight Mile Street Fight
RHINO vs. CHRISTIAN CAGE

The War Machine returns home in a match that bothers me. Why? Not because of the competitors, I like Rhino's new found intensity inside of the six sided ring, and Cage seems to be improving, in my opinion, since his run as NWA World champion. This match though reminds me of WWE, and that just bothers me. I have nothing scientific to back that up, except that I like it when the former WWE guys fight someone new and fresh, like Angle competing with Samoa Joe. This one has been done before, and it'll be done again, I'm sure. This is just the beginning of a feud and a half between these two former NWA World Champions. Rhino wins with the home field advantage.

WINNER: Rhino

The Kevin Nash Open Invitational X Division Gauntlet Battle Royale

Is this what Kevin Nash is reduced to? Jeez. Next. I don't like this deal with Nash involved with the X Division. It doesn't do any justice at all for the talent in that division, and right now, TNA ought to be focusing more on showcasing the talent, especially with its two stalwarts, AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels currently out of the division in tag team competition. Instead, they have this comedic aspect of trying to put the division over, and I don't think it's working. Also, Nash is too brittle to be involved in anything long term.

I don't know who's in the match, I don't care. I'm not picking it.

X Division Championship
SENSHI vs. CHRIS SABIN

All things considered, this will be a hell of a contest. However, I don't think that TNA is ready to take the belt off Senshi yet. Can Sabin run with the belt? Sure. He's done it before, and I would suspect he's got another run in him down the line. I just think at the present, the X division should be working on getting more challengers up to the level of fighting for the title, and there really is not another heel challenger out there, outside of Alex Shelley, that could challenge if Sabin wins. With Senshi still champion, Jay Lethal could go, perhaps even Petey Williams. There's more options to work out title matches with a successful title defense here, and I think that TNA ought to keep the title stable while they muddle through this mistake that they're doing with Nash and Shelley.

WINNER: Senshi

MONSTER's BALL w/ special guest referee JAKE "The Snake" ROBERTS
BROTHER RUNT vs. RAVEN vs. ABYSS vs. SAMOA JOE

I am pumped up for this match, and not because of the involvement of legend Jake Roberts. Personally, Roberts ought to be keeping his nose clean, and his body out of the line of fire. This one, though, this monster's ball has monsters of all shapes and sizes with the biggest being Abyss to the runt of the litter, literally. Samoa Joe is dying to kick some major ass after the Kurt Angle/Jeff Jarrett situation, and I would suspect this match would allow Angle the opportunity to get some shots in on Joe during the contest, in some way, shape, or form, to further the dissension between the two stalwarts.

Abyss has the most experience in Monster's Balls, with Raven a close second. This is Joe's first TELEVISED monster's ball, and Runt's first go-round. Although, all four men can go hardcore without an issue. Joe can certainly, by venue of his ROH work with Homicide against the Briscoe Brothers. It's really kind of hard to pick a winner here. All four men have a lot to gain and lose by winning this match, but I would think that the one with the most to gain would be...

WINNER: Samoa Joe

Six Sides of Steel for the NWA World Tag Team Championship
AJ STYLES & CHRISTOPHER DANIELS vs. THE LATIN AMERICAN EXCHANGE

I am thrilled for one man in this match, and that's Homicide. His work with ROH and his tenacity inside TNA has paid off with a marquis program against two of TNA's founding fathers. This feud will probably cease here, and I would suspect, by the nature of who I picked in the four corners match, that this one could be a pick 'em. However, I don't think that TNA would want to have LAX run further in to Team 3D, while AJ & Daniels, two X Division legends, facing off with the most decorated tag team in pro wrestling, well, that's a marquis all its own. When it comes down to it, you could go either way, and not be wrong in your opinion. However, I LOVE the team of the Fallen Angel and the Phenomenal One, and having them go up against 3D, well, it's something I want to see.

WINNERS: AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels

NWA World Heavyweight Championship with special enforcer at ringside - Kurt Angle
JEFF JARRETT vs. STING

This one is peculiar to think about. With Angle in the mix, it's really kind of difficult to figure out how this is going to play out. Why? Simple. One. Angle in the mix means Joe will be in the mix, someway, somehow. Two. Jarrett and Joe have history from No Surrender, and that is certainly not going to disappear, especially with Jarrett sneaking off with the belt like a thief in the night from last week's Impact!. Three. What is the deal with this "transformation" from Sting? What is this going to emulate? His previous incarnation of "The Crow" was pretty simple to understand, but this one has been a mystery from the word go. All I can tell you is this. I thought initially Sting would win the title outright, but now, I am not so sure. Jarrett vs. Joe, or Jarrett vs. Angle would be something to crow for for the title next month, and that is definitely possible, more likely with Joe than Angle, but Sting vs. Joe also would have history from the previous PPVs when Joe left Sting at the mercy of Steiner and Jarrett.

Confused yet? So am I.

This would be the perfect opportunity for Scott Steiner to fix his dispute with TNA and return to help out Jarrett, as it seems Jarrett would appear to be outnumbered. Will Cage be involved on Jarrett's behalf? Will Angle and/or Joe help Sting to get Jarrett out of the picture? Will this turn in to a major league cluster - f? Well, yes, but that's normal for a TNA PPV NWA World title match. (Wow, check out the alphabet soup on that one.)

Comes down to it, I am going to pick Sting, for this reason. TNA would need a reason to bring Sting back if he lost the match, and whatever reason they provide, it's not going to be believable. With Sting winning the title, and Joe on the heels of the title, the next title defense almost seems too easy to place the pieces in the puzzle. One thing is for certain, this one ought to be fun to watch.

WINNER: Sting
