Funk's Corner - Flying Brian Pillman

Brian Pillman played collegiate football at the University of Miami. In 1984, he made his pro debut with the Cincinnati Bengal Tigers of the NFL. Following that, he went on to play briefly in the Canadian Football League with the Calgary Stampede. Brian didn't like taking orders and the strict discipline associated with playing football. Brian had always been interested in professional wrestling. He told his friend Bruce Hart (of the famous wrestling Hart family) that he had watched Terry and I while growing up and would like to give professional wrestling a try.

Brian learned to wrestle training in the Dungeon, The Basement of Stu Harts home in Calgary Alberta with Stu and the Hart family. This is a place that the weak and faint of heart dare not tread. He began his wrestling career in Calgary Stampede Wrestling, Stu Hart's promotion.

Brian went on to World Championship Wrestling and finished his career wrestling for Vince McMahon in the WWF. He was often called Flyin' Brian Pillman. The name was appropriate for his style in the ring, flying skills in airplanes and daredevil escapades including skydiving.

Brian was a great performer in the wrestling business. We will all miss him. He was 36 years old.

With the passing of Brian, we all lose many years of wrestling entertainment yet to come, wrestling skills unknown and interviews un-given. We also lose a good man who cared about family and friends. Brian was one hell of a wrestler who gave the fans his best, even more than their money's worth.

Both of these young standouts made their respective MXW debuts at GOLDEN QUEST, and both proved to be worthy of inclusion at an event of such stature. Now, as MXW gets set to debut in the Empire State's Capital District, they return to MXW to put their talent on display. Two of the independent scene's quickest young talents have accepted the challenge to participate in MXW's exclusive and innovative Lightning Match concept. Borrowed from Lucha Libre, the Lightning Match is one in which the combatants are not only involved in a game of human chess....but they are competing in a game of human chess with CLOCKS -- as each Lightning Match carries with it a mere 10 Minute Time Limit.

The two newest additions to the Lightning Division will go one-in-one at the Washington Avenue Armory, as........

MXW Pro Wrestling, which maintains a satellite office in Waterbury, Connecticut, is pleased to announce that Waterbury will see the return of professional wrestling after a substantial absence...when the organization presents "BRASS CITY BATTLE" at the Albanian Culture Center at 106 Columbia Boulevard on Sunday, November 12th.

*"DIEHARD" EDDIE EDWARDS REVEALS MYSTERY PARTNER FOR THE GAIJIN TAG TEAM WAR!*

The following statement was presented to us earlier this evening via e-mail from Eddie Edwards, who represents the Pro Wrestling NOAH contingent on Sunday, November 12 in Waterbury, CT:

"In two and a half weeks, I face Steve Corino and Josh Daniels in an epic tag team war with Gaijin Battle points at stake. I had a decision to make, and while there were many options, there was only one choice. Whether he was available...that was the dilemma. Now I know it's not a problem. He is available...and he will be there.

I call myself Die Hard. Not because it's the title of a movie I once saw, but because it reflects who I am. My partner, well, he was Fearless well before Jet Li's film hit the screens. On November 12th, Daniels and Corino had best be prepared....because Team NOAH is READY. Team NOAH will be DRIVEN. And Team NOAH will be victorious. Because Team NOAH will be comprised of myself, "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards, and my partner.......

Giles Shane sent in the following report:

Here are the results from the inagural DCW-Deise Championship Wrestling-"Saturday Night Session" event from the jam packed Forum in Waterford on Saturday October 21. The card was praised by Bret Hart when he saw the line up a few weeks ago when he visited Waterford.

At the top of the show authority figure(and head booker) Sean Selig makes his way to the ring. He says its been a long and troubled road but he's "finally here!In the greatest areana in all of Waterford!!!" He then asked the jam packed house to rise for the national anthem. Much to the crowds surprise(and delight) international singing sensation, Chris Doran made his way to the squared circle to sing! After a heartfelt number, Chris thanked the crowd and was about to leave the ring when the vicious Gorrilla Barron jumped him from behind. He hit Chris with some (STIFF!!!) right hands. Gorrilla got on the house mic and began taunting the furious crowd and Chris. Then much to delight of the audience, the high flying T-Bone intercepted and with barrage of rights and lefts knocking Gorrilla out of the ring.

T-Bone helped Chris to his feet and grabbed the mic and challenged Gorrilla to a match later on that evening.

1).E-Z Lay pins Randy Rider at the 15 min mark. some high offence and good technical wrestling in this one!

2). Jeremy Carmine and Pat MacIntosh go to a non-finish when "Daring" Danny Walnut interfered at the 9 min mark. The crowd really got behind this one especially at the finish.

3). Paul Von Connors defeats Brian McGuire after 5 mins. PVC was on fire tonight with another fine performance. He looks like a top player.

4). The Franchise Players (Jeff & Shay) squashed local jobbers Eamonn Brennan and David Flynn. The crowd didn't really respond well to the nondiscript Flynn and Brennan, who looked liked they had been picked off the street moments before the bout.

Selig returns to the ring and thanks the crowd for making DCW a success.

5). T-Bone beats Gorrilla Barron with help from Chris Doran and a steel chair at the 20 min mark.

an absolutely awesome encounter!! the crowd were white hot!
