In December of 1969 Dory Funk Jr. traveled to Japan and wrestled his most famous match in Japan against Antonio Inoki to a one hour draw for the NWA World Championship.

Again, in 1970 Dory returned to Japan and wrestled Antonio Inoki for the NWA World Title for the second time. This time it was best two out of three falls with the match going a fall apiece. Ending in a second one hour draw.

The first match between Dory Funk Jr. and Antonio Inoki is said to have changed the face of professional wrestling in Japan.

SCHEDULED TV TITLE MATCH IN JEOPARDY DUE TO CLAUDIO'S OPEN CHALLENGE

Last week we made the announcement that current CAPW Heavyweight Champion "Double C" Claudio Castagnoli, the man from the United Banks of Switzerland, issued an open challenge, inviting any and all potential challengers from inside and outside of Cleveland All Pro Wrestling to challenge for his title on Sunday afternoon, December 3 at Turner's Hall. It was a challenge that was meant with quite a bit of buzz around the CAPW locker room, and several individuals were rumored to be quietly considering the offer as CAPW officials pressed on to finalize the "Seasons Beatings" card for December 3.

One such match CAPW officials finalized just days ago was a blockbuster match for the CAPW Television Title. The unstoppable Jason Bane, who's been dominant as TV champion for months, has been signed to defend the title against the timeless veteran, The Wild Eyed Southern Boy, Tracy Smothers! This is Tracy's return to Cleveland after a several month absence, and has reportedly been dead-set on capturing the TV title and becoming a regular fixture in CAPW rings once again.

However, just yesterday, it was learned that Jason Bane has officially submitted a request to CAPW's championship committee to challenge for Claudio Castagnoli's CAPW Heavyweight Title on December 3. But, should the request be granted, where does this leave Bane's scheduled title defense against Smothers? Will Tracy become a casualty of a contractual technicality? We contacted Tracy Smothers yesterday evening, and informed him of the pending controversy and potential cancellation of his title shot. Smothers had the following to say:

"Hey man, all this talk about open contracts and canceling my title shot is getting me about half-hot. I've seen this Bane guy, he's huge, he's unstoppable, he's a monster, he's an impressive champion, but he ain't no match for 24 years experience in this business. Bane thinks he's gonna win the Heavyweight Title, he won't have any titles after I'm done with him. I'll slap the taste out of his mouth, then I'll slap each and every one of those Cleveland rednecks in the audience individually. If CAPW takes away my title shot, I'm bound to lose my rabid-ass mind, and it will be total anarchy. I will be in Cleveland on December 3rd, and I will walk out TV champion if CAPW knows what's good for them. Because I'm Psycho Sellout Smasher Smokey Smothers, and if I don't get my title shot, straight up, everybody dies!"

Champion Claudio Castagnoli has not offered an official response, but one would think Double C would be willing to defend against all comers based on the wording of his open challenge. CAPW has a very complicated decision on their hands. Bane, as Television champion, is ranked the official #1 contender to the Heavyweight Title, and with Bane's hunger to capture and unify the two titles as he's done once before, Claudio's demand for top-notch competition, and Tracy Smothers' demand that his scheduled title match goes on as scheduled, it will be difficult if not impossible for CAPW officials to reach a decision that leaves all parties satisfied.

We hope to have an update on this scenario next week.

Just announced…

Q&A vs. Irish Airborn

Last week we announced that Virus & Unknown were making their return to CAPW following a several-month absence due to a serious shoulder injury to Virus. The team has regrouped, is refocused, and prepared to attempt to regain the tag team titles. However, it's going to be a difficult task gaining momentum from the get-go, as they face one of independent wrestling's brightest shining teams. Jake & Dave Crist, collectively known as Irish Airborn burst onto the CAPW scene earlier this month, and already established themselves as a major threat to the tag titles. These two very innovative teams will collide in a match with major effects on CAPW's tag team rankings.

Already announced…

Monumental Six-Man Tag
Christopher Daniels/Zach Gowen/M-Dogg 20 vs. Josh Prohibition/Johnny Gargano/N8 Mattson

The issues surrounding Jr. Heavyweight Champion Johnny Gargano and his top three contenders: Zach Gowen, M-Dogg 20, and Josh Prohibition have only intensified in recent weeks. Gargano has formed an unexpected alliance with Prohibition, as they work together to attempt to rid the Jr. Heavyweight division of their toughest competition and fiercest rivals. Prohibition's was instrumental in helping Gargano defeat Zach Gowen in very dubious fashion. Gowen was quick to retaliate, tripping Prohibition with his cane during Josh's match with M-Dogg 20. As a result of these escalating issues, both sides were given the opportunity to find a partner to back them up, and settle it in the ring face-to-face. Prohibition & Gargano recruited one of the true greats of the Ohio/Michigan area in the Amazing N8 Mattson. However, M-Dogg & Gowen had the perfect counter, TNA star "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels. Unquestionably six of the very best around today will collide in what is sure to be a classic, and could very well determine who the toughest Jr. Heavyweight is today.

CAPW Championship: Claudio Castagnoli vs. ???
Since capturing the title last summer, Claudio Castagnoli has turned away no challenge and backed down from no fight. From Chris Hamrick to Nigel McGuiness to many others, Claudio has constantly held back the challenges of the best in the world. Claudio continues to show that same fighting spirit, as he has issued an open contract to any man to challenge him for the CAPW Heavyweight Title. There's no telling who will answer the call or when, but whomever decides to challenge Double C may be in for one of the longest nights of their careers. Television champion Jason Bane has already petitioned CAPW management for this match. Will his request be granted and if not who will step up to challenge Claudio?

?CAPW Television Title: Jason Bane vs. Tracy Smothers?
Smothers is a 24 year veteran who has been everywhere in the world and won championships hand over fist. However, with Rhino, Buff Bagwell, and a host of others already on Bane's quickly growing hit-list, is there any man who can stop the most prolific TV champion in CAPW history? However, Bane's request to challenge for, and potentially re-unify the Heavyweight Title with the Television Title have placed this match in jeopardy. Whether or not Tracy receives his title shot, and what he's prepared to do if he doesn't, is very much up in the air

Grudge Match: JT Lightning & Chris Cronus vs. The Aftermath & Tiger Young
The issues surrounding The Aftermath & Tiger Young and their opposition JT Lightning & Chris Cronus, along with advisor Krystal Frost, resulted in one of the most chaotic incidents in CAPW history recently. Lightning & Cronus took offense to their younger counterparts challenging them to a tag team match, and it did not take long for things to degenerate into a barbaric brawl that spanned just about the entirety of Turner's Hall. The official had no choice but to throw the match out completely and rule it a no-contest, although it mattered not to the four men battling each other. As a result of the out-of-control nature of this rivalry, the rematch has been signed but with a special provision: there will be NO count-outs and absolutely NO disqualifications. There will be a decisive winner on December 3 as the upstarts hope to make a big name for themselves by overcoming the dominant pair of ex-tag team champions, but it will not be easy and it WILL be a wild out of hand melee.

Check back next week as we announce even MORE marquee matches for our December 3 extravaganza. For more information please visit www.capw.net.
