Smackdown involved in big controversey in an Indonesian child's death
On Thursday, November 30, 2006 at 12:00 AM EST Reuters News Service is reporting that Indonesia's Broadcasting Commission is trying to get WWE Smackdown banned in the country after the investigation into the death of a 9 year old boy who allegedly died as a result of doing moves that he saw on the show.
The child who resided in Bandung suffered “blows to his body in October and died a month later". An autopsy has yet to be performed and nothing conclusive has yet been decided but the country is trying to get WWE Smackdown banned anyway.
The leader in all of this, Indonesian Broadcasting Commission member Ade Armando has said, “We have SmackDown posters, shirts, cards, and other things. It has become some kind of specific culture with its own community. If there is no television show, we assume those other things will lose audience. So our conclusion is stopping the show altogether. We will not tolerate its showing anytime."
No word yet on whether the broadcaster, Lativi – a private broadcaster who has moved the show from 9pm – 10pm, would comply and drop Smackdown from its shows. It should be noted that WWE does often release a public service message titled “Please…Don’t Try This At Home" before and during its television and pay per view broadcasts.
Women Empowerment Minister Meutia Hatta joins Mr. Armando by saying, “It is just proper for these kind of shows to be wisely stopped. It seems as if there are no better shows."
It should also be noted that the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission does not have the power to force Lativi to drop the show and that it will be the broadcaster’s decision.
We will have more on this breaking story later today here on WrestleView.com.
