Pro's from the Palace (#143) - An ECW PPV is this weekend? Are you sure?

I've seen some questionable booking decisions by the powers that be in Stamford, Connecticut, but to only have two matches signed for a Pay Per View this upcoming sunday by the time the show airing before the PPV goes off the air is just insane.

Now, the word goes out over the net that Sandman will face off with Hardcore Holly at the PPV. Two questions. A) Is Holly a heel or a face? One week, he's Heyman's henchman, next week, he's teaming with Van Dam, next week, he's facing someone entirely different, and someone who IS actually involved in a feud, and could've had a match what that gentleman instead of this one that means zero to the storyline scenarios surrounding ECW.

Now, don't get me wrong, I have an interest in the Chamber match. I am, not because of Slim Cullen, but because I saw him live back in July 2005, a huge fan of the Punker, and I want to see him win the title this sunday, as well as the fact that I have in my possession every chamber match on DVD, and I intend on keeping that promise once this so called PPV gets off the ground and gets produced. I have to say, that the Chamber does not thrill me, because of the involvement of one individual. Why Test? Why not put Sandman in the chamber, hence, you would have three originals, RVD, Sabu & Sandman vs. three newcomers, Big Show, Lashley & Punk. By putting Test, who, if logic states, has absolutely zero chance of winning the title, and keeping Sandman or Dreamer out, it's just another slap in the face of the tradition of ECW.

Now before anyone claims I'm an ECW traditionalist, let me stop you there. I have limited knowledge of the original ECW. Significantly limited. But, my observation on the combatants in the chamber remains. Test brings little to the table with his intangible qualities, while Sandman, I feel, would shine and love the scenario around the Chamber. It has to make more sense than putting Sandman in a match with Holly, and leaving Striker out of the mix. If you're not going to put Sandman in the chamber, at least, at a PPV setting, have a match worthy of a feud that's been going on during television time, which is Sandman vs. Matt Striker, certainly not Sandman vs. Hardcore Holly. It has no continuity with whatever they are attempting to gain as a flow with the television product.

The other aspect that is really pathetic about this PPV is the Hardy Boyz match. First of all, if MNM was reuniting for "One night Only", then why have they been on Raw and Smackdown for the past couple of weeks trying to hump any pop out of a show that has got zero? Yeah, I know that's a lame one, but the fact remains, MNM is going to find its way back on to the main WWE landscape, and it would not surprise me whatsoever if it happened to be on ECW. Could we see MNM upset the Hardys, and then lay claim to the ECW tag team championship? This would be a nice little carat for anyone attending the show to see the first crowned tag title holders for the new ECW. I have no knowledge to back that up, and chances are good it's not going to happen, but it does allow a little room for thought, don't you think?

One thing I have always liked about CM Punk's gimmick is the lack of frills and liners in his promos. His "straight-edge" persona fills right down to the core with his promos, emotional, to the point, and no frills. Like I have said in past work, he walks up to you, tips his cap, and then cold-cocks you in the side of the temple with a fist. With all that being said, I have to believe that CM Punk's skin was crawling, absolutely crawling when he was asked to do the DX "Are You Ready?" line in Philly at Survivor Series. I gotta be honest, I loved DX when they came out, and I bought Vengenance for that very reason. But, now, it is getting old.

Regardless of what sort of non-attention WWE is giving it, the focus TNA has put on the ECW PPV, specifically with the former James Gang accepting the open challenge of Matt & Jeff just devalues the sanctity of the program. Personally, I would love to see Vince say, "sure, screw it, come in, and let's see who the best team is." Win or lose, both companies get a ton of fodder for their shows, and the 'net explodes like there is no tomorrow. But, we all know that will never happen, and we all know BG & Kip will not shut up about it, so with that being said, the Voodoo Kin Mafia will continue to flap its gums and be boring, (in the skits directed to them by TNA creative), and the WWE will go on with this PPV of one match that matters, one match that is tainted, and one match coming out of left field. I hope all of these guys have their lunchpails, because it's going to be a long day.
