Pro's from the Palace (#147) - WWE Armageddon PPV picks and thoughts |

I won't miss two PPVs in a row, ladies and gents. Let's get to work on Armageddon tonight... Smackdown's end of the year pay per view.
The MIZ vs. The BOOGEYMAN
Ok. Here's the thing with me. Miz does not belong in a wrestling ring, but all things considered, he did pay his dues, he did do time in the developmentals, and he does have the charisma to make an impact on an emotional level with the fans, one way or another. This is his, to the best of my knowledge, PPV debut wrestling and he has his hands full. Not because of the fact that the man he is facing is more talented than he is, but..
It's the Boogeyman.
Boogeyman. The man who has been fired, rehired, and repainted, all in the span of a month to two months time. He has seemingly set his sights on the Miz and his so called girlfriend, Kristal Marshall, and to be quite honest with you ladies and gentlemen,
This match does not belong on PPV. This will be a gimmick-laden snooze fest, and I would not be surprised if it kills the momentum of the show all together. Quite frankly, I've wasted enough time writing about it.
WINNER: The Boogeyman
WWE Tag Team Championship PAUL LONDON & BRIAN KENDRICK vs. WILLIAM REGAL & DAVE TAYLOR
Couple of things need to be said here. 1. There is obviously a seedling being planted involving London and Ashley, and an eventual feud with Kendrick, once they lose the titles. 2. Regal & Taylor may be the best hard hitting, in your face tag team I have seen come in the fray since the APA. This is the champs toughest test, and truth be told, I think it's their last. Regal & Taylor are primed to be tag team champions, and London & Kendrick have been at the top of the mountain for nearly eight months. WWE has booked this feud very well, giving both teams momentum week in and week out, but the small little seedling of Ashley and London will probably cost the champs the match, and begin the London vs. Kendrick program. Also, honestly, Regal deserves a title run. He has gone through hell in WWE, and lived to tell the tale.
WINNERS: William Regal & Dave Taylor
And honestly, that's tough for me to write, because I am a fan of both teams. I'd like to see co-champs if possible, because both teams are that damn good.
WWE Cruiserweight Championship GREGORY HELMS vs. JIMMY WANG YANG
Quite possibly two of the most talented competitors to hit a WWE ring together in a long time. I would love to see WWE figure out a way to relax the rules of combat and let these men fight the way they can, because it could possibly be a match of the decade, they are both that talented. With that being said, I would think Helms will win this match because this is really the first go round for these two. I think Yang will eventually take the title, but I would not be surprised if they try and grow this feud and see where it blooms. Yes, Helms has been champion nearly a year, but this is the first true test for him in nearly his entire reign, and if WWE is smart, they'll let it simmer before flipping the switch.
WINNER: Gregory Helms
WWE United States Championship CHRIS BENOIT vs. CHAVO GUERRERO
As much as I hate to say it, I would not be surprised if Chavo wins. Not because Chavo doesn't deserve a title run, I would never say that. I hate this angle of Benoit being a "woman-hitter" or something like that. I find it distasteful, disgusting, and offensive the angle these two men have gone, but that seems to be a correlating factor to anything WWE does with the Guerreros. Frankly, I'm sick of it. I hope that whatever happens with this match, and I am picking Chavo, unfortunately, that Benoit is allowed the chance to return to the glory of the World title, because he needs another run at the top of the mountain, and why? Because he deserves it.
WINNER: Chavo Guerrero
Last Ride Match THE UNDERTAKER vs. MR. KENNEDY
I *LOVE* the combining of the feuds between the B.o.D. and Kennedy & MVP. Seeing Undertaker and Kane team up again is nostaglic, entertaining, and damn deadly for anyone against them. With that being said, I have to give props to both Kennedy and MVP. They have made this program extremely entertaining, as I suspect this match will be. The question is this. Will Kennedy pull a trick out of his hat like JBL did during the previous last ride match with Undertaker?
JBL had Heidenreich sitting in the hearse waiting for Undertaker. Will Kennedy put MVP in there prior to his match? Will he have someone else in there? I think that is truly the way that Kennedy will upset Taker here, because if it is one on one, Taker will kill him. Bottom line, this is an entertaining contest between a rising star of the entire WWE, and a legend and as JBL put it, the cornerstone of WWE. Win, lose, or draw, the fans win.
WINNER: The Undertaker
Inferno Match MVP vs. KANE
I thought there was only one inferno match, but actually there has been four. Kane has lost the previous three, and he has been in all four. I watched the first inferno match between Taker and Kane from Unforgiven in '98 last night on Taker's Tombstone DVD, and it still is baffling how they competed in that surrounding. You can't fake fire. Here, I think, Kane will finally get the win. MVP has not had the legendary resume of Kane's previous opponents in this sick contest, Triple H and the Undertaker. MVP has little to lose by losing this match, and by just competing in this match, his stock within the company has to swell in prestige, ten fold. Bottom line, I am buying this DVD for this one match, because I have to see it, from beginning to end.
WINNER: Kane
World Champion BATISTA & WWE Champion JOHN CENA vs. FINLAY & KING BOOKER
A couple of things bother me here. One. Batista just won the world title, and he can't main event the last pay per view of the year with a title defense, they have to bring in Cena to increase the buys? Proposterous, thank you very much. Two. When Booker was champion, Finlay wanted a piece of Booker's hide. Now, they're the best of friends? I know not the best of friends, but now they appear to be on the same page? Difficult to believe. Three. If there should be anything with Batista and Cena, they should be opponents, not partners. Batista and Cena have been virtually parallel in their careers, with their first title wins being at Wrestlemania 21. Partnering the two champions does give this match some sex, but the real meat off the bone of this product would be Batista vs. Cena, to determine the new champion of champions, since Booker lost his title.
Anyway, Batista and Cena win the match, because they have a lot more to lose from a reputation standpoint than Finlay and Booker would. I think Finlay turns on Booker, and begins his slow turn to a babyface who loves to fight.
WINNERS: Batista & John Cena
This one was tough to pass up. A last ride and inferno match on the same card. Kind of reminds me of Raw's Unforgiven eariler in the year with Hell in a Cell and TLC. Perhaps WWE is realizing that the same same is getting lame lame.
