Pro's from the Palace (#152) - The fans speak out on Federline vs. Cena

It's been kind of amazing how the feedback has come in regarding my feelings on the Federline/Cena incident. Most of it has been anti K-Fed, actually, pretty much all of it has been anti-K-Fed, but some of the feedback has some words for me, and correcting some of the inconsistencies I may have flown through in my last piece. With that being said, I am going to invoke a Palace first. I finally am going to do it. This one has me soo fired up that I am going to let the people say what they want to say in print for the world to see for themselves. Here's what you had to say on the Cena/Federline incidents.

I don't understand why everybody is getting on Vince McMahon all the time. He is a genius and knows the creative end of wrestling. I mean from the Katie Vick angle to male cheerleaders to the ultimate in good taste, using Eddie Guerrero in storylines, he is a very smart man who has made me proud to be a WWE fan. (God I almost couldn't write that even as a joke.) Unlike sports, in sports entertainment he doesn't seem to realize that you actually have to make your decisions based on what the fans want.

I agree with you Vince has lost his mind and Federline isn't the first sign of this. Am I the only one who thinks what Vince has done roster wise with a glass ceiling and the backstage politics, is much like what WCW did late in its life. I don't think it is going to make WWE go belly up, but it sure is making TNA look good for a lot of talent.

Vince has done some weird storylines in the past, IE: The DX situation and Kiss My Arse Club, You're FIRED !!! and lots of others that have been to say the least possibly been thought of in a school playground.

However this time I think he has overstepped his boundary. Federline Vs Cena and Federline winning the match, please come on this is a professional wrestler weighing in at close to 20 stone and well built. And then you have a**** who was dumped by a broad called Britney and who must weigh about 8 stone soaking wet.  Someone please tell what is wrong here.

I agree whole heartedly with you. I have been a huge wrestling fan my entire life, I have seen many great matches in my life for the title and I am too sickened by what the WWE is doing to the champ and championship. I have been toying lately with boycotting the show, but I am a loyal fan of the wrestlers not the company so I show my support where I can

I mean, for God's sake, Kevin Nash laid down from a touch of Hulk Hogan's finger to change the titles hands.  David Arquette held the WCW title.  There's history here, man, of that happening.  Ever since wrestling went to a live TV format, overall, there have been many times that a celebrity has got into the ring with champions.  Remember when Dennis Rodman was involved around the title scene in WCW as Hogan's partner.  Now, you can't say these guys are any different that K-Fed stepping into the ring.  K-Fed could actually cut a promo better than any of those guys, and face it,  John Cena has made it.  As a diehard fan for all my life, I understand that there are going to be times where celebrities are brought in to boost viewership at times or get some press.  It's going to happen.  Vince isn't losing his mind, it's great business.  John Cena is proving he's the man, with the mic, and out amongst the fans.  His wrestling skills are developing, but being pinned by Federline doesn't really mean anything, Mike!

I have seen a lot of strange, unusual, and downright crazy things in the past nine years since I have been a wrestling fan, such as Mae Young's birth of a hand, Kane "impregnating" Lita and then marrying her, Vince McMahon vs. Stephanie McMahon, and probably everything WCW did in their last year and a half of operation, but after seeing Kevin "The Pissant, Vanilla Ice Wannabe" Federline pin the WWE Champion John Cena last Monday I was never more appalled.  I found it hard to concentrate on the rest of the show after that incident Monday.

I totally agree with you 100%...Vince has lost his mind!

Vince only built up the hype for the Cena/Federline match...and to be honest with you I was excited because I wanted to see Cena kick the living hell out of Federline. But as usual with WWE...they make the match a lot of people were waiting for a total flop. It sucked...and the WWE Champion was made a fool of in front of the world.

I also agree that Vince has made the prestige of the WWE Title is nothing more than a joke. I'm also sick of how WWE uses the same recycled storylines over and over again...it's not fun to watch RAW when you basically know what's gonna happen.

I totally agree with your latest column. K-Fed played an interesting celeb-heel for maybe two episodes of RAW...and I must admit it was hilarious hearing JR say "K-Fed." However, it has turned into a circus act like you said.

As much as K-Fed's win makes a mockery of John Cena and his WWE title (as if Cena hasn't already done that himself) I can see why K-Fed got the win.

I know you're a Cena fan, but we all saw the mixed reactions Cena was getting from crowds. As far as I'm concerned, K-Fed helped Cena get massive fan support again just because he's already "America's most hated." It's either that, or the Cena-haters stopped tuning in and showing up to events due to the insipid product WWE is showcasing.

I cannot help but to agree more.  This episode reminded me of when David Arquette wore the WCW championship belt.  I have no problem when celebrities are the special guest managers or valets.  I have a real bone to pick when celebrities are in the ring.  I'm a big Cena fan myself.  I'm just disappointed when Vince and his creative team let his champ get pinned by a seed spreading bum.  When I saw it on the internet news the next morning, I wanted to give my monitor a roundhouse kick!

I disagree with your position on the Cena/K-Fed angle and match on this past week's Raw. First of all, the angle did a lot to garner publicity and certainly cash, which you have also noted. Secondly, the match itself was nothing but a vehicle to add more weight to the Cena/Umaga feud, the sheer fact that Federline pinned John Cena does not discredit the champion, or the title itself because Cena was heavily interfered with by Umaga and lost directly because of this interference, and no fan is going to look at that and think, "wow, there goes the WWE title's prestige". A: the title wasn't even on the line and B: the message of "your company's best talent has been beaten by a non wrestler" is not the message sent. The message sent is, "Umaga screwed Cena big time, there is more fuel to this feud's fire." So with all things considered, the fact that K-Fed "defeated" Cena does not discredit any title or anybody, because of the circumstances surrounding the defeat.

Kudos go out to my pal Krossfire108@aol.com for writing in, but his was so spicy and so full of such colorful vocabulary, that I just couldn't publish it. But, he had to get props for voicing his opinion!

I just read your Cena/K-Fed column and really started thinking, "Haven't I seen this whole stupid scenario before...oh yea, David Arquette in WCW before it went down the *******." WWE is really losing ground. I've found myself really pulling fot TNA to at least go head to head and give it some competition.

In any type of business, competition betters the end product. WWE has no reason to better their product when they have no competition. But, the good news is that hopefully that all might be changing.

Thank you very much for taking the time out to write me on this issue. If the feedback continues to come in strong, I may do this again.

Ok, I'm done. It's the middle of the night, for pete's sake.
