Pro's from the Palace (#156) - The Trilogy Concludes: TNA iMPACT! stuff

It's only fair that I provide the third portion of this trilogy of wrestling commentary this week. I watched Impact from cover to cover, bell to bell, and the first and foremost thought in my mind is this.

Damn, does TNA need more time or what?

Now, don't get me wrong, I am going to contradict myself with some of the thoughts I am going to say here from what I have said in other pieces. But, I will try and remain as consistent as I can.

1. Showtime Eric Young may be an outstanding competitor. Showtime Eric Young's gimmick is obviously way over with the fans. But, in this person's humble worthless opinion, Showtime Eric Young is being wasted as a lame excuse for a Eugene wanna be. I see Young, I think Eugene with less specialty, if you will. (Thank you Dusty Rhodes.) Young should be returned to the X division, and let him compete for the title, because I personally believe a match between Young and Christopher Daniels would be extremely entertaining.

2. One negative, ok. Here's a positive. I LOVED the six man tag tonight. Sabin, Storm & Styles vs. Rhino, Daniels & Petey. It is still kind of weird seeing Petey Williams team with Chris Daniels after the wars they went through, and it sure as hell is weird seeing Styles as a heel, but both aspects I can get used to pretty quickly. I loved this match. I thought it was tremendous action, non stop emotion, and a lot of fun to watch. The Gail Kim angle is also intriguing, because we're obviously building to a blood feud with Harris & Storm, and the prize will be Kim, and that, should be damn fun to watch.

3. Taking Konann out, all real life circumstances aside, is beneficial for the tag title match between 3D and LAX, because there is no room for doubt, there will be a winner. Ray can promo his ass off, no question about it. But, let's be honest, here guys. Ray with the combat helmet on looked silly. Fatigues, fine. I can go there. Lose the helmet. I know it's knit picky, and I know it's really petty, but hey, it's just a thought.

4. The Chris Harris interview. It appears to be progressing nicely. I know I said I hate the soap opera gimmicks, but this one doesn't appear to have any sort of fantasy bulls**t laced in, and it's basically the victim in despair, the heel going ape, and the eventual clash of the titans when the time is right. Not too bad in my book. Ass kicking is the name of the game, and this will be intense, when it does go down.

5. Kurt Angle helping out Jim Cornette with Christian Cage in the main event. It's a nice little carat to show where Angle is going to go next, especially since it's obvious Angle vs. Joe is done after sunday. What I want to know is, does Angle really have the resume in TNA to go for the strap yet, or should he take on more comers? I mean, I know there isn't many others outside of Joe, but if Angle wins the match on sunday, and leapfrogs over Joe for a match with the NWA World Heayvweight Champion, whomever it may be, don't you think we'd have some sort of dissension among the ranks?

6. Nice work by Joe tonight. Nice promo, nice timing, good work all around. No complaints here.

7. Will someone let me know when the PCS is over? Please? Starr vs. Shelley is entertaining, don't get me wrong, but this whole thing has been ridiculously lame from the onset, and it's not getting any better with age.

8. When I first saw the opener with Angle and Maverick Matt w/Serotonin, I wondered what TNA is doing with Raven's group. But, as I watched and saw the eventual punishment on Bentley by a weirdly clad Raven, all I can say is, there's got to be some major play from Scott Levy as to the direction of this group, and I am frightened in a positive way to see where this group can possibly go. I do think it may need one more member, a slightly more marquis name than the trio already involved, but the fact remains. Raven is a genius, and if he has any influence in the creativity of Serotonin, I can't even fathom where this is going to go.
What about the mask on Raven during the caning of Bentley? Creepy!

Oh, one other thing, best of luck to Konann with his medical issues. I hope all goes well.

9. I think for the first time since I started watching TNA I was getting tired of the shilling for a pay per view. I saw them run the same vignette on Joe/Angle at least three times during the hour, and the amount of times Tenay and West plugged the sunday show over talking about the action ongoing in the ring was almost nauseating. I know it's also weak, but there should be a little more focus on the product at hand, and not just promotion for the money makers in the company that happen every 4th sunday of the month.

10. Lastly, for the main event. I liked the use of the KoTM penalty box for Christian, like I said eariler with the Angle point. Abyss using the other ramp really provided the possibility that he had gone face and sided with Sting. But, for now, the monster took the gold and the ramblings of the madman in the red suit. At least, for now. I give Sting a ton of credit for hanging in with the monster as long as he has, because getting some of the pounding from Abyss has got to be killing Sting's older physique. Cage bluntly doesn't do it for me anymore. Yeah, he broke in to TNA with a lot of hype, won the belt, and had a "good" reign with it, but with Tomko back in the picture, it's basically WWE part deux, and frankly, it's boring to me.

Abyss has really grown on me since I first watched him. Not because of the fact that the man can take a pounding like no other wrestler I have seen in some time that is currently competing, but the man can tell a story even through one eye and a partially closed mask. I am tremendously impressed with his work during this build up to Sunday, and am interested to see where it goes from here.

Ok. 10 opinions on Impact. I am surprised I got this much out of the show for you. Check the other articles around here for results if you missed the show. I am not going to play spoiler here. Until next time, which is over the weekend for picks for Final Resolution, let me give some links to finish the job.

The trilogy is over. I am anxious to hear how you thought it went. I will watch Smackdown obviously later friday night, and if it hits me, maybe I'll come back, so one way or the other, I'll see you all soon.

See ya.
