Scotty 2 Hotty now on Raw, more live Rumble notes, + WWE 24/7 note
On Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at 4:52 PM EST We had many readers send us word that Scotty 2 Hotty's profile is now over on the "Raw Superstars" page over on WWE.com. Scotty worked a Dark Match against Jared Steele at last night's Raw taping in Dallas, TX. Thanks to everyone who sent that in.
Joshua sent in the following live report: I went to the Royal Rumble on Sunday, and thought I would share some of my thoughts on the evening...
MNM vs. Hardyz
-- This was a pretty good match. Big pop for the Hardyz when their music hit. Honestly, nothing to memorable about this match, although, I have never seen the Swanton Bomb live and it really is a cool looking move. Joey Mercury really seemed to do a nice job considering he had on his "Tribute to Mankind" mask.
Test vs Lashley
-- Um, I wish I could comment on this match, but I used it for the bathroom break, and so did half the arena. Even from out in the concession lines I could hear the "TNA" chants. Seriously, I cannot believe that they had a actual match on TV a couple days before this even, and then they have the same match, WITHOUT Extreme Rules and it ended with a COUNTOUT!! I never thought I would see the day when there was a countout on a PPV involving ECW.
Mr. Kennedy vs Batista
-- I was actually really looking forward to this match, as I am a big fan of Kennedy. The place actually went nuts when he was doing his promo. I am not sure how it came across on TV, but Batista really doesn't look that great in the ring. He doesn't have any sense of charisma about him anymore. There was a few "Taker" chants during this match, as a few people thought he may come out. Something that was very cool is how over Kennedy is. There was several points in the match were there was a loud "Kennedy" chant going on. Decent match, but Kennedy really is something special and I hope they get the strap on him sometime this year.
Umaga vs Cena
-- This is what I was really interested in... How was San Antonio respond to Cena? Well, he got a HUGE pop when his music went off, but once the match started there was about 3 different "You can't wrestle" and "Cena Sucks" chants. Everyone got really excited when Estrada was taking apart the tables for Umaga's spot on the announce tables. It looked really cool live, as everyone was almost certain that one of the tables he was running on would be broken, but he made it through and it looked very nice. Umaga sold the STFU very well and layed in the ring motionless for a very long time. A very solid match I thought. I must say that it seems that the Cena haters are becoming a minority at these live events. Cena does a really good job of getting his butt kicked.
-- I always wondered how they cleaned the blood off the ring so quick, and last night I got to find out. The actually have several layers of ring mats under each other, and they simply rip up the bloodied mat and there is a clean mat right underneath. The ring crew should get big props, because they were ridiculously fast getting the turnbuckle back on and cleaning up the area for the Rumble.
Royal Rumble Match
-- The crowd pop huge when Lilian announced it was time for the Rumble. I was very happy when Flair came out number 1. I have never seen Flair live, and it was an honor to shout the "WHoooo" when he was coming out. When sabu came out and immediately set up the table, everyone just knew that he was going to be the one the go threw it, but he looked terrible in the ring. Not sure if he has given up on WWE already or he just doesn't have it in him anymore. When Khali hit the ring and started clearing house, I was immediately afraid that they did decide to give the match to him. Everyone around me was commenting on how terrible he looks. The guy can barely move. By far the largest pop of the night was for HBK. The place went nuts for him. When Taker came out number 30, that almost summed it up for me that he was getting the win. It was nice to see that MVP made it so far to the final 5, and he looked really good in the ring. People were actually cheering him when he was walking to the back after getting eliminated. Place went nuts when HBK eliminated EDGE and Orton. And then when Taker sat up and HBK did his rising spot, the place was electric. Of course we all wanted Shawn to win, but at that point I realized that this may be the last time we see the Taker..ever in San Antonio. The whole feel of the match when it got down to the last two was very emotional. Both guys were dead on and I hope it came across on TV like it did live. After HBK was thrown over and he was heading back, I doubt they showed it, but he made several motions as if to say "Goodbye" to the Taker. TONS of respect between those two it seemed.
-- In closing, I had not been to a WWE show in 10 years, and that was actually the 1997 Royal Rumble in the Alamodome. I was debating on going as I had been watching Raw and Smackdown and was afraid that the magical atmosphere that used to occur at these events would be gone and it would be wasted money. Let me just say that I am very happy I went. The atmosphere was awesome, and the crowd was hot the ENTIRE night. Tons of fun, and I think everyone worked their butts off (minus Test).
Largest Pop
- HBK
- Taker
- Cena
- Hardyz
- believe it or not "Kennedy"
Biggest Heat
- Umaga
- Edge
- MNM
- the whole ECW match
- Khali, but not in a "good" heat kinda way
