Doc & Les were joined by this week’s first featured guest, former WWE and TNA Superstar, D’lo Brown. Les asks him about buying a football team in Illinois. D’lo says it was all about doing something with his money after his pro-wrestling career. Brown continues talking about how he has a love for football and loves Chicago and his friend owns the team and stated it would be a good investment for D’lo to join in with him and Brown points out that he’s co-owner of the Springfield Stallions. March 23rd is when the season starts for the Indoor Football League. D’lo Brown then discusses how the Stallions did last year and mentions there will be a wrestling event held after the first game of this season and other events like concerts after games in the future. Les talks about how a minor league hockey team was brought to Cincinnati and that they had events after the games too. D’lo highlights that the Stallions are the only game in town and also would like them to be the best game in town. He wants the Springfield Stallions to have a family friendly environment. Doc, Les and D’lo then talk about Football, mentioning the Superbowl where Brown discusses the Chicago Bears performance and how he defends the team.
D’lo says the sign of a great worker is stepping up when the odds are against you. He talks about how if the next match can’t be followed is how you’re remembered. Making wrestlers work harder is how the whole show can be brought up. Brown talks about working a match with Maven and that he’s improved on the independents. D’lo mentions he has worked Japan forty times in forty eight months and is now beginning to segue back to working in the United States. He then discusses how it’s difficult to adjust again after returning from Japan. Doc mentions that D’lo Brown was an accountant before being a pro-wrestler and D’lo states he would need to get a new accounting degree to do his own taxes. James Young asks if D’lo was contacted for WSX, Brown replies that he wasn’t and that it was most likely because he couldn’t commit to their schedule due to commitments in Japan and he mentions he hasn‘t watched WSX yet. WhoBetta asks how D’lo Brown liked working Ahmed Johnson and D’lo states that Ahmed’s a big strong, scary guy and was green when he worked him and had some decent matches with him. Big Joe asks if Brown still wears the chest protector, D’lo says no and that he auctioned it for Pillman 2000 and it sold for $2000 (he also donated $2000 himself). Doc asks about the chest protector and Brown says that maybe he wore it a bit too long but in the beginning it was great as it made him stand out. He can’t complain as it elevated him.
Another question is a rumour about D’lo joining WCW when Vince Russo took over. Brown replies there was some talk and negotiations with WCW. DeCapo asks about the ‘rubber necking’ aspect of D’lo Brown’s character. D’lo highlights that this was his idea and he got it from Chris Tucker in ‘Friday’ when he shook his head when Deebo knocks out Red . D’lo goes onto mention that him and Rocky watched ‘Friday’ countless times. Brown discusses that he cussed on television and Vince asked to speak to him but Mr McMahon told him to keep doing the ‘head thing’. D’lo mentions that people still do the head shake and Doc mentions they have to re-name it the ‘D‘lo‘. Trish says that when she got ‘recognised’ she called it getting “D’lo’ed". Les asks Brown if he see’s The Rock anymore. Brown responds saying that Rocky has a hectic schedule and is mostly out on the west coast. D’lo mentions he still talks to Kane, Dr Tom Pritchard and tries to stay in-touch as much as he can. BigPoppa in chat asks D’lo Brown who trained him, Brown replies saying he trained himself in his backyard and got into Smoky Mountain where Jim Cornette and Al Snow taught him. Les points out that D’lo was his first HWA Heavyweight Champion. Another question is about Mark Henry’s push, D’lo mentions he talks to Mark a lot and was happy for him when he got the push and was very saddened and disappointed when he got hurt. D’lo goes onto to highlight that Mark Henry has got through rehab, is now getting his strength back and is way ahead of schedule.
Les mentions that Mark had an attitude but changed. Brown states that Henry is a great athlete and was used to being the top dog and clarifies that you have to pay respect to those before you in the wrestling business. D’lo compliments Mark Henry’s personality stating he has a ‘heart as big as Texas‘. Les tells a story about having a talk with Mark and next time he saw him mentioned how he’s improved and Henry highlighted that this was because of the talk which Les gave him. Les mentions that one of the highlights of Pillman 2000 was the match between Bill DeMott and Mark Henry. Professor VNS asks about D’lo’s favourite pre-WWE feuds and post-TNA feuds. Brown states Gangstas vs. Rock ‘n’ Roll Express in Smoky Mountain, post is anything he did with AJ as he’s a phenomenal worker and raised his level up. D’lo goes onto to talk about wrestling The Great Muta, Kawada and Kojima in Japan. D’lo states that he learned in Smoky Mountain Wrestling. D’lo is then asked who his favourite in-ring partner is. Brown replies saying it’s tough, if you’re talking in terms of technical it’s AJ Styles, Power is Mark Henry, Charisma is The Rock, in terms of manhood it’s Ron Simmons. Brown states he can’t just pick one. D’lo mentions he doesn’t have a Myspace but does have an e-mail address at the official site for the Springfield Stallions website, www.springfieldstallions.com. Doc & Les then thanks D’lo Brown for being the guest.
The second featured guest is backstage agent for Wrestling Society X, Cody Michaels. Les mentions that Cody broke into the business with Shane Douglas, Mick Foley and the late Mark Curtis and was trained by Dominic DeNucci. Les talks about WSX and certain aspects of the show lose him as a viewer. Michaels says that he see’s the point which Les is making and that selling is important. Les highlights Vampiro and 6-Pac slowed the pace of their match down. Cody talks about a title match during a later taping and gave the match ten minutes. Vampiro ended up going twenty four minutes but MTV won’t be airing the match in full. Cody points out WSX have an incredible locker room and they are very professional. He discusses MTV’s vision was to establish a new fan base and that with the format they were given, they had to roll with it. Les states that MTV should produce Jackass and leave wrestling be. Michaels points out that MTV do give some control but they are limited with time constraints and then goes onto talk about working in Memphis with the late Eddie Gilbert, Jerry Lawler who he highlight’s has excellent psychology which he learned from but it‘s not really around today. He points out younger wrestlers today need to be taught more.
Les talks about when he ran HWA and how to work a story into a six minute match. He states you do this by taking a sixty minute story and condense it down to six, which should have a beginning, middle and an end. Cody talks about the criticism of the WSX pilot and mentions that MTV wanted a certain amount of ‘sizzle’. When they knew about the other ten shows being produced, Michaels states they sat down and spoke about how much they can squeeze into the nineteen and a half minutes. Les likes the presentation aspect with the picture frame and the vignettes. Les continues by saying the WSX announcer isn’t the show, he has to introduce it. Cody Michaels mentions he is totally opposite from TV. Les talks about what Lizzy Valentine said about Cody. Michaels talks about meeting her first in XPW and likes Lizzy, but doesn’t like women’s wrestling, it‘s just not his preference. He points out women can work and have athletic ability but again, as he highlighted, it‘s not his preference. Les asks if they have more WSX tapings in March, Cody replies ‘tentatively yes’, talks about the creation of Wrestling Society X and highlights he is 110% behind WSX. Les says he is impressed with Matt Sydal and Josh ‘Jug’ Raymond (Josh Abercrombie). Les points out his opinion on WSX, which is it should slow down abit and would like to see it work. Cody Michaels says he has spoken to prominent people in both WWE, TNA and they would like to see WSX work. Cody then talks about Colt Cabana, who is Matt Classic on WSX. Michaels notes that the producers at MTV and Big Vision Entertainment were laughing hard at Colt & his wrestling style. Les states that Colt instils comedy into his wrestling which is ’art’ and is very talented. Cody states that wrestling fans should watch Wrestling Society X as it’s new and different. Doc and Les thank Cody Michaels for being a guest and would love to have him back soon.
