Badseed's Bottomline #412: Changing Things up
On Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at 6:14 PM EST Hey yo! So, last week, I was hating the WWE…this week, I am changing my tune a bit...just a bit.
As Wrestlemania approaches, I am loving what they are doing in the WWE. Mixing up brands, complicating things…stories that actually make you think. It’s amazing. The whole Undertaker and Batista alliance vs. HBK and John Cena pairing was fun. Seeing Batista fight Cena was great since they just paired up a couple months back. Watching Batista turn on Undertaker was a smart move, although does turning on a face and helping other faces win make you a heel? That’s what’s awesome…I don’t really know. Even seeing Undertaker fight Randy Orton again was great. I pop for interactions like that.
But one thing I notice a lot when brand cross over is just how much the brands need to be realigned. So, I decided to make some changes just to hear what readers thing. Oh, and by the way, I got a ton of emails from a lot of people, including one ignorant bastard who didn’t just disagree with me, but just made a complete ass of himself. It’s cool to criticize me, but be professional about it. Please. Now, back to the column and my brand realignment:
Raw: I want Batista back on Raw. He is a better fit there and something about an Evolution vs. DX feud with Ric Flair in the middle could be a lot of fun. Batista vs. John Cena has not been done yet as a singles feud nor has Batista taken on Umaga. Batista thrives on Raw, so why not put him there.
Undertaker should move there and follow Batista. None of this has to take place all at once. It can be a gradual process…even up to a year…but eventually I would like to see it all go down and Undertaker is important to the mix. He has not been a full-time fixture on Raw since the split and I think it is time for a change. What a shot of freshness for Raw. After Batista…Undertaker vs. Cena and Undertaker vs. HBK would make for great angles to enjoy live.
Deuce and Domino: Raw is a better fit for these guys. There can be cross promotion events with NBC’s Grease reality series and Raw has two gimmick teams already so why not just put them all together.
Joey Mercury: When you have gimmick teams, you need good teams to counter the nonsense. Bringing MNM back together is a great idea. They never got the full RAW treatment and you don’t even need them to team all the time…just when needed.
Matt Hardy: He has so failed on Smackdown. On RAW, he can do so much more. Let him team with his brother Jeff Hardy and go for the gold again, but why not have Hardy also compete in singles action using his Version 1 gimmick that he used so well during his first Smackdown run. It was perfect and would make his Raw run more effective. It would also give Creative a lot more to work with.
Trinity: Breathe life into the Hardies vs. MNM feud by adding Trinity to the mix and form a Team Extreme. Trinity can go. She should wrestle and what better way to get her involved than in an already hot feud that includes the women’s champion.
Smackdown: Eventually, after he is used up on Raw, send HBK to Smackdown. Lose that ego. He can do so much more on Smackdown just feuding with Mr. Kennedy, but imagine a feud with Rey Mysterio. That would be awesome.
Edge: Same thought here. He has done everything he can do on Raw. He has been the most vile heel ever. It’s time he changed it up a bit and I personally love a feud between Edge and Mr. Kennedy or Edge and King Booker.
World’s Greatest Tag-Team: Together or apart, both would do better on a brand where they can wrestle. Shelton Benjamin would benefit the most and could wrestle HBK on Smackdown or Rey Mysterio. Plus, London and Kendrick are the brand’s greatest tem right now. A feud with the World’s Greatest Tag-Team could further validate their dominance of the division.
Carlito: Back to basics. He was so much better on Smackdown and they moved him too fast. I want to see him mouth off to Mr. Kennedy. Notice that I have Mr. Kennedy as the focal point of Smackdown. Carlito vs. King Booker would be hilarious, too. The action in the ring would be just as good.
Cade & Murdoch: The WWE hurt this duo on Raw, but a move to Smackdown could be helpful. A feud with Regal and Taylor would be a great stiff match. And they could be a force to be reckoned with…a real threat to the reign of London and Kendrick.
Super Crazy and Little Guido: Cruiserweights belong on Smackdown. If TNA can come up with real stories for X Division wrestlers, than Creative can do the same for the cruiserweights.
La Resistance: Put them on Smackdown and get rid of that horrible name. What can they prove on ECW when there are no titles there for tag-teams? I really enjoyed their match on ECW, but think they can do more on Smackdown. Add Conway to the mix since he has nowhere to go.
ECW: Chris Masters belongs on the brand. He doesn’t fit into Raw. But a feud with Lashley could be interesting. Pair up Test, Snitksy and Masters as a team…um…for no real reason other than they seem to belong together. Or have Hardcore Holly break the Masterlock Challenge. Masters has a lot to offer ECW. And it could be a great place to make a name for himself. He needs more seasoning.
Viscera: Just to keep feeding people to Lashley. He needs more opponents and what could it hurt to have Viscera under a repackaged gimmick wrecking havoc so Lashley has a credible opponent. Viscera was in ECW before with the FBI for one PPV.
Kenny Dykstra: The new breed needs a wrestler like Dykstra who is easily lost in the shuffle on Raw.
Val Venis: He needs some sort of change. He needs to break out again. I feel horrible for him. Venis is much better than he has been given credit for.
Eugene: I want him to admit to faking his condition and have him team with Matt Striker as Higher Learning. Eugene really can wrestle and could have entertaining matches with the likes of CM Punk and my next pick.
Chris Benoit: He needs this most of all. Benoit is the ultimate ECW original. He comes in and not only lends instant credibility to the brand, he shakes up what could be the hottest feud on any brand right now. Benoit vs. CM Punk…wow!!! How about Benoit vs. Sabu in a rematch of the match that made Benoit the Canadian Crippler? Even Benoit vs. Tommy Dreamer would be an awesome ECW match.
Well, that’s my plan. What do you think?
