CZW returned last night to the ECW Arena last night before an expected smaller holiday weekend crowd.

  • Grim Reefer defeated Danny Demanto after a iconoclasm. Post-match,Danny Demanto then got the snot beat out of him by Nate Hatred

  • Team AnDrew (Drew Gulak and Andy Sumner) defeated "The New Jersey All Star" JC Ryder and "Hotshot" Ryan McBride after Sumner submitted Ryan McBride

  • CJ O'Doyle defeated Javi Air by pinfall

  • Vortekz defeated Jigsaw to become CZW World Junior Heavyweight Champion in what appeared to be another step in the windup of the CZW-Chikara Pro relationship, as Maven Bentley annouhced at the start of the match that the loser would not be taking part in Best of The Best. Referee Bryce Remsberg was also nowhere to be found, and is not listed as appearing in future CZW shows on his MySpace page.

  • 9:04- CZW IRON MAN CHAMPIONSHIP: DJ Hyde (with Maven Bentley) successfully defended his CZW Iron Man Title over Toby Klein after a lariat

  • Brain Damage defeated Danny Havoc after beating the snot out of Havoc, nailing Havoc with several staple gun shots to the face and tongue; but not ebfore a sequence that saw Havoc nail Brain Damage several times in the head with unprotected chair shots.

  • BLK OUT (Ruckus and Sabian) (with Robbie Mireno, Chrissy Rivera, and Big Larry K, their person ring announcer) defeated. Niles Young and Derek Frazier after a Skayde special pin for the pinfall. Post match, Niles and Frazier beatdown BLK OUT and "steal their belts"

  • In a tremendous match that shows you how to do a loser leave match...with both guys giving literally everything in their bodies "The King of Diamonds" Eddie Kingston defeated Chris Hero to send Hero out in a lower leave CZW match to wind up Hero in CZW (another Chikara talent gone from CZW). The crowd was into every bit of this back-and-forth match...a match that makes this DVD worth getting from Smart Mark Video, all by itself.

The problem with doing a match like this two matches from the top is that the last two matches suffer by comparison...and unfortunately, they did.

  • Mitch Ryder (with Maven Bentley) defeated Necro Butcher (with Toby Klein) in a gorefest that saw Ryder win after Necro pounded away at Ryder with Ryder unable to defend himself...only to have Frank Talent just threw the towel in "at the request of Dr. Ron Brown stopping the match for excessive bleeding".

  • Justice Pain defeats Drake Younger to retain his CZW World Heavyweight Title by pinfall after a Pain Thriller into a barbed wire board for the pinfall.

So CZW did the kind of show it needed to do....they put out a great effort and a tremendous Hero-Kingston match (that should have been the main event).

Unfortunately, then Zandig came out and did a rant on "the Internet" (translation: the people on the company's unofficial message board that went off on last month's non-appearance of Necrobutcher) including such statements as "I'd like to take those 5 guys who are bitching and shitting on everything, put 'em in some chairs, and have Necro go to work on them!" .

Yup, there's the way to get people who read about what was a damned good show to show up in May; by doing what every promotion that gets online criticism does, bitch that the fans don't know any better. I have a better idea for CZW: put on good shows, promote them well (this means letting your staff post online who's on the shows more than 24 hours ahead of time), and people will come in the numbers you want.
