Tons of IPW:UK news including Rhino on April 28, RCW Gold Rush report
On Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 2:22 PM EST Daniel Edler sent this in:
» Considering Andy Boy Simmonz beat Martin Stone for the IPW:UK Title, and then Stone lost his title rematch, you’d be shocked to hear that Simmonz and Stone have only ever locked up in two matches in IPW:UK, neither of which were in the two aforementioned matches!
The first interaction between the pair came way back in May of 2005, as those two men (alongside The Zebra Kid, ) battled to become the Best of British Heavyweights, and earn their way to a shot at becoming the first ever IPW:UK Champion. Martin Stone came out on top in that one, as Andy Boy Simmonz passed out after several minutes in the Crossface submission that Stone was using prominently at the time.
Then in February 2006 at the first Taste of IPW show, Stone and Simmonz headlined the main event – but the fans turned on Simmonz, and started supporting ‘The Guvnor’. Simmonz once again lost out, and had some choice words for the fans – but has never looked back since.
Now, having captured the IPW:UK title back in October, Simmonz is the general, the leader, the champion in IPW:UK – as he’d have you know, he is top dog. And having already defended his title once this month, AND having to defend it against Leroy Kincaide in Liverpool, Simmonz has decided that the signed match with Stone will be a NON-TITLE contest.
Not that this matters to Stone, who intends to be the first person in IPW:UK history to pick up three wins over Simmonz, at the Orpington Halls, on April 22nd! And if you beat the champ non-title, you’re sure to see a title match your way in the very near future…
» And now, all of the remaining names for April 22nd’s “Battle Royale" match:
SPUD (14)
The former IPW:UK Tag Team champion will be going it alone this time out, as he will be the only ‘Dragon Heart’ in the rumble match itself. With his final shot at Tag gold coming in Liverpool just one week later, will Spud look to hang in and try and beat-down Swiss Money Holding, or will the plucky underdog go all the way for the victory?
BLOK BUSTA (15)
Wherever JC Thunder goes, it seems Blok Busta follows nowadays. After picking up his first win in IPW:UK this past weekend on the Portsmouth double-header, he is sure to be absolutely unbearable when it comes to this weekend in Orpington. Maybe a solid beating in the rumble match will knock it out of him – but lord help us if he was to win the thing…!
MARTY SCURLL (16)
The Cambridge student Scurll is one of the most popular losers on the IPW:UK roster, right behind JC Thunder. In fact, it’s actually a wonder that the crowd support that Scurll has had, hasn’t spurred the studious superstar on to that first victory. Then again, his last singles match was against Sam Slam, so we can forgive him slightly.
THE HATED HEROES – ANDY BOY SIMMONZ, AVIV MAAYAN & LT SUMMERS (17, 18, 19)
Conspicuous by their absence on April 14th, Aviv Maayan and LT Summers return to the side of their leader, Andy Boy Simmonz, in this rumble match-up. Summers, now fresh off of a suspension, is still undefeated in pro-wrestling, but will be making his IPW:UK Battle Royale debut. Maayan however is a legend in Rumble matches – winning the first ever IPW:UK rumble, giving him the qualification which later crowned him as the first ever IPW:UK Champion back in July 2005. Can Maayan repeat this time, or will Summers strike lucky on April 22?
TEAM NOAH – DOUG WILLIAMS & GO SHIOZAKI (20, 21)
The evening’s semi-main event is the IPW:UK Tag Title match between Swiss Money Holding and Team NOAH representatives Doug Williams and Go Shiozaki. Should the result go favourably for Team NOAH, they may have bullseyes on their chests, as if you eliminate a champ, you face them the next month at Royale Rewards! Either way, Williams and Shiozaki are clear favourites to come out as winners with their international pedigree and general all round ring awareness.
DAVEY RICHARDS (22)
The PWG and RoH star is now very used to the big-time, and what bigger chance than to come into IPW:UK and on your debut make a huge splash by beating current Under 23’s Champion Sam Slam, and then winning the main event Battle Royale? This could all come true for Richards on April 22nd, but he’ll have 29 other men or women trying to stop him!
PAUL ROBINSON (23)
Famous in the Orpington Halls for his 2006 battles with the now retired Ashley Reed, Robinson has gone from strength to strength and picked up his first victory in Hampshire this past weekend. Now one of the most recognisable names and faces within IPW:UK, could April 2007 be the time for Robinson to take that step up to the next level and prove to the likes of Simmonz, Maayan, Tighe and Stone that he is the real deal and can hang with the best of them?
» It should be remembered, that any champions who enter the match are at risk themselves – if they are thrown out of the Battle Royale match (and 29 people will be!), then the next month, May 20th at Royale Rewards, they must face whoever targets them and eliminates them successfully one-on-one (or two-on-two) for the gold!
» There are still two more spots in the Battle Royale match left un-filled – if you are an aspiring European wrestler, IPW:UK in conjunction with RQW, Chickfight, XS:W and 4FW will be holding open trials on the afternoon of this event. For more information, email: danieledler@hotmail.com!

» In January of this year, as reigning champion, Martin Stone took on The Great Muta at London’s York Hall for Real Quality Wrestling. It was hard to think what could top that for Stone in 2007, or even in the rest of his career for ‘The Guvnor’, but just mere months later we have a match which Stone considers to be equally big, if not bigger, against the TNA representative – Rhino!
A former ECW champion, Rhino has been sent to Europe for that weekend’s King of Europe cup, and what better way to make a mark for both himself and IPW:UK on the global scale than headlining against ‘The War Machine’ on Saturday April 28th, live from the Liverpool Olympia, as we present to you A Taste of IPW:UK.
Rhino has faced many big men in his time in the business. Stone has faced some of the best Europe has to offer, and proved against The Great Muta that he can hang with the best. Come April 28th, both men will prove to Liverpool why they are among the very best in the world, in another ‘first ever bout’, and the main event of the afternoon!
Daniel Elder sent this in as well:
» With Final Frontiers out of the way, IPW:UK can now look to the future and one of the big weekends in our very near future comes at the back end of April, as we debut in Liverpool at the Liverpool Olympia for two afternoons of exciting IPW:UK action.
The “Taste Of" IPW:UK shows debuted in February 2006, as the night before we hosted hit American promotion Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, we put on an “IPW:UK" card from top to bottom, showing fans new and old what we’re all about. Then, we went to Colchester on December 10th and we crowned NEW Tag Team champions in Swiss Money Holding as we showed Essex a Taste Of IPW:UK. And now on April 28th & 29th we’ll do that again – this time, in Liverpool.
» To book your tickets, head across to http://www.koecup.com right away, and click the link labelled “IPW:UK"! Tickets to the afternoon shows are just £8.50 each, one of our lowest ever prices to an IPW:UK show. Plus, use that very same link to purchase your tickets to that evening’s main King of Europe cup tournament event itself, where the likes of IPW:UK’s Martin Stone, El Generico, Pac and so many more will take on the world, as 16 pro wrestling companies select 16 pro wrestling fighters to crown ONE King of Europe!
- The IPW:UK “Taste Of" Afternoon cards last a duration of two hours, are £8.50 all ages entry, and are operated on a ‘first come, first served basis’. Show starts at 2pm, and is over by 4pm.
