Brother Ray on if Team 3D will retire, NWA titles, Dudley name and more
On Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 10:30 PM EST The Sun in the UK recently conducted an interview with Team 3D's Brother Ray where he talks about Team 3D capturing the NWA World Tag Team Titles at TNA's Lockdown PPV, if retirement is in the future and working as an agent for WWE. Here are some highlights:
On Team 3D capturing the NWA Tag Titles:
"Team 3-D are now 20-time world tag team champions - 19 times in America and once in Japan. That's nine WWE titles, eight in ECW, one for Hustle, one WCW and now one NWA. If you put it in perspective, Ric Flair has won the world heavyweight title 16 times. So it is going to take him four more to catch up to us."
On what it means to capture the NWA titles:
"This one is really, really special. The NWA has been around longer than any other wrestling organization. And to finally take the NWA titles and be able to put them up next to all of our others… actually I think we are going to put them above the others. When you talk about the NWA tag team titles, you are talking about The Briscos, The Funks, The Road Warriors, The Freebirds, Arn and Tully, and so many other great tag teams and now Team 3-D, The Dudley Boyz, are right there."
On if retirement is an option:
"Retirement could very well be around the corner, as what more is there to accomplish? How many more tag team titles can you win? After winning the NWA titles, I don't really see that much more to do. We might have another year, maybe two, but I'd rather leave on top or as on top as possible."
On any legal ramifications for displaying the WWE, WCW and ECW tag team titles on Spike TV & PPV:
"It doesn't matter, because we are referencing in history. All we're doing is showing what we've won in the past with a little refurbishment. There's really not much can be done about that."
On losing the "Dudley Boyz" name:
"When I first thought about the name situation, it really did piss us off, because the bottom line is we truly do own the names. But it would take thousands of dollars to prove that in a court of law. Then I thought about it and said: 'wait a minute if they keep the name, they can continue to merchandise the Dudley brand, and they still have to pay us.' So f*** it, keep the name, send me my checks four times a year and as everybody knows, you can call us Mutt and Jeff, it's not gonna matter. You got Hawk, you got Animal. You got Bubba, you got Devon. You got Terry, you got Dory. People know who we are, it doesn't matter."
If he would ever accept an agent role with WWE:
"Vince has already asked me to be an agent, on three different occasions. If Vince asked me to stay on as an agent, and Devon had to go, Devon would understand. Because Devon understands that I'm the creative one in the team and being creative is something I'm good at, that I excel at, and Devon would not stand in front of me. Obviously though, we would have to be retired before I accept Vince's offer."
