Badseed's Bottomline #416: Back for more
On Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at 8:27 PM EST Hey yo! So, it has been some time. I apologize for my absence. I moved in with my girlfriend. The move was a process and then figuring out a schedule where I can write my column was an even greater process. I think I can continue on with a weekly Badseed’s Bottomline. What better time to get started. We have a draft to talk about.
The draft is a great idea. I think it is necessary so that they don’t start having Bobby Lashley main event Raw every week when he is an ECW wrestler. That annoyed me so much. Maybe they can keep wrestlers on their respective brands for once. I know that every once in awhile they like to mix things up a bit, but they got absolutely ridiculous at one point. There was just too much going on and the brands were blurred too much. I lost track of who was on first and what was on second…if you get my meaning.
Now that they seem to be trying, I have a few ideas for them. I don’t like the idea of Chris Benoit going to Raw…only because it has been done before. I would love for him to move over to ECW and lend some major credibility to that brand with the departure of Sabu and RVD. They need it and if they decide to push younger stars in that division, Benoit would be a big help. He has done wonders for MVP to the point that I look forward to seeing MVP wrestle each week.
I think the WWE should move Batista to Raw. He doesn’t like being on Smackdown anymore. His drive has diminished and I know he shouldn’t be catered to, but I think he has done an awful lot on Smackdown. I think he is out of the title hunt and I think the best way to get him back into the mix is a move to Raw where he can actually turn heel again and possibly feud with Cena. Even matches with Randy Orton have a lot of appeal to them and Batista vs. Umaga or Batista vs. Great Khali could help him rise to the top of Raw.
Rey Mysterio should go to ECW. I like the idea of moving top credible WWE stars over to the brand that helped push them to the top. I think it is a move that would add some excitement to ECW and give the show the fire it needs to keep doing better. They lost the most when Big Show, RVD, Kurt Angle and Sabu left. This will help out a lot.
Matt Hardy should be fully drafted to Raw and pushed. It is time to push Matt Hardy in the way they pushed Edge. He has the ability. He just hasn’t had the chance to develop a character. I think having one brand for him will help tremendously. He can team with Jeff Hardy, but also concentrate on singles matches. This makes the most sense. Or you move Jeff Hardy to Smackdown and really push Matt Hardy into another program with Edge.
King Booker needs to move to Raw. He is a big time player who has done all he can ever do on Smackdown. He has a lot more to offer on Raw. And Raw needs a shot of main event juice with the departure of HBK and HHH. Unfortunately, I am confused as to what will happen when the two of them come back. Will Raw become unbalanced? This is tricky, because even now, while I am writing this, I am seeing a dangerous precedent in forgetting Smackdown. Too many brands.
How do you fix that? Well, keep Mr. Kennedy on Smackdown and turn him face. He would be an excellent choice to feud with Edge. Like I said, really push Matt Hardy. Keep the push on MVP. He’s awesome. Stop making Kane be a jobber to crap like Mark Henry. And the draft pick that makes a lot of sense is Carlito to Smackdown. There is a brand where Carlito can really shine again. He would be an excellent addition to that group.
I say that if the WWE gets Chris Jericho back, that they put him on Smackdown. With the draft that I just did, you really have a balanced lineup. Cena, Batista, HBK, HHH, King Booker, Umaga, Hardy Boys on Raw; Undertaker, Kane, Edge, Mr. Kennedy, Jericho and Carlito on Smackdown; Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Lashley, Tommy Dreamer, Marcus Cor Von, CM Punk and Elijah Burke on ECW. This is a good mix.
Of course, I would move Val Venis, the World’s Greatest Tag-Team and Chris Masters to Smackdown, Viscera to ECW and Deuce and Domino to Raw.
That is just my opinion. Let me know what you think about the draft, where people should go and why.
On to TNA. I heard Scott Steiner is injured and will not be able to wrestle at Slammiversary. I hope that somehow he is able to at least make an appearance and have Rick Steiner wrestle most of the match. I like this feud and I hope it continues. TNA has given us matches we have only dreamed of. James Gang vs. Team 3D and Team 3D vs. The Steiner Brothers. I want to see much more of these types of matches. Kurt Angle vs. Goldberg? RVD vs. AJ Styles? RVD vs. Jerry Lynn? Let’s make it happen.
TNA has lost its way as of late. I really think they do. There is no reason to try to compete with the WWE when you are a viable alternative to their product. Who was the last star TNA built on their own? Samoa Joe. I know…Ring of Honor did that first, but I mean, out of the big two, TNA got him and made him a star on a more national scale. They have done a lot with Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Senshi, Christopher Daniels and AJ Styles, but now they are concentrating on Christian, Sting, Kurt Angle and any chance they get to sign a WWE star, they wait and save money to make it happen. But the problem is, Ring of Honor and all the other independents have great stars that TNA should be signing. It is what made ECW so great. They took top stars from around the world and got them noticed. It’s great to sign top stars from the WWE, but they are not going to last. It’s the stars you get young that have an opportunity to become stars for the long haul. I say that they get Matt Sydal and others like him…the kind of wrestlers featured on WSX, but who had little time to shine.
Loved the AMW fight at the last PPV. Don’t end that feud so soon. The violence was top notch. It felt so real and I heard they wrestled really stiff with one another. AMW is a classic example of how a company can get so much out of one tag team. Five years of great action together and against one another. The WWE has a hard time keeping teams together for a week.
Hector Guerrero recruits Rhino and Chris Harris…uh…no. That’s not the feud with LAX I wanted to see. Get Senshi and maybe Danny Maff. Have them go at it with Homicide and Hernandez.
Motor City Machine Guns? I like it. Great idea for a team. They wrestle so well together. A more slow paced, but still exciting team that deserves attention is Kenny Dykstra and Johnny Nitro.
Get rid of Bob Backlund. They stole his book? Are you serious?
Why did Jerry Lynn come back if he wasn’t going to win the X Division title? I hope he eventually does. Was he brought in to lure RVD to TNA? That would be awesome.
AJ Styles does not have much left to achieve in TNA. He’s fought everyone and that is why they need to bring in new stars. Don’t let him get bored. Then he’s a goner.
Samoa Joe seriously got screwed over by not winning the title. I hope he doesn’t end up a disgruntled employee. That would not be a good thing.
The Christopher Daniels – Sting feud sort of came out of nowhere, but if you remember back in WCW, Daniels was supposed to be aligned with Vampiro, the Demon and the Great Muta against Sting and it just didn’t happen. So, I look forward to seeing this match. It is very different and it allows Sting the chance to give back to a younger crop of wrestlers.
Tomko has the makings of a future star if he keeps wrestling in Japan. Every time he comes back, he looks a little better in that ring.
Lance Hoyt is so turning on VKM, but they have been so subtle about it. This is good booking. Better than that rather quick swerve between the Hardy Boys and Cade and Murdoch. I thought for sure they would drag that out just a bit longer, especially after the match with the World’s Greatest Tag-Team.
If I was Paul London and I wanted out of my WWE contract, I would do a shooting star press, get fired by the company and go to TNA and be an X Division star. I’m just saying.
RVD went out a winner. Don’t you forget it. He was not jobbed out. RVD’s stock is still high.
Brock Lesnar’s MMA fight seemed a little fishy to me.
Abdullah the Butcher just needs to give it a rest. In about three more years, Celebrity Fit Club will run out of B and C List talent and you can make a name for yourself on that show.
I can’t wait until the return of Abyss. As a face, he is going to be awesome. Let’s just not do anything Kane related to him.
Where did Stone Cold Steve Austin go? I mean, his movie came out and he never took part in any storylines that would help promote him and actually help his movie make money. Stupid.
Rock split with his wife and I have to say that he probably would have stayed with her if he was still wrestling.
The WWE is still interesting without HBK and HHH.
I miss Trish Stratus though.
And that’s all for today. It feels good to be back. Until next time, that’s the Bottomline cause Badseed said so. Peace
