Pro's from the Palace (#189) - Picks for Vengeance, Night of Champions
» Reported by Mike Siciliano of WrestleView.com
» On Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 1:06 PM EST

Time for Vengeance, Night of Champions, and the picks for this PPV. As I come off my best showing of the year, One Night Stand, with a 6-2 clip, bringing my record for the year to 26 wins and 20 defeats, (not bad, 6 over...much better than I'm doing in TNA), it's time to get down to business. Since I'm leaving later for WSU, I better move...quickly.

WWE Women's Championship
MELINA vs. CANDICE MICHELLE
If you don't see the writing on the wall here, you're just, forgive me, blind. Melina is not liked backstage by the suits, as evident by her boyfriend taken out of the locker room on Raw, and put in limbo in ECW. Candice has done everything but a backflip lately to show she can wrestle and take the title. While Candice is not in Melina's league as a wrestler, she has improved, and this title change may be short lived, but it's going to happen. It would stun me if it doesn't.

WINNER: Candice Michelle

WWE Tag Team Championship
DEUCE & DOMINO issue an OPEN CHALLENGE
I see the Major Brothers coming out here and causing the champs a little havoc. I think D&D will win, but this is a chance for WWE to introduce the Majors on a grand scale with the 'lights on bright' as JBL has said. I don't like open challenges made 24 hours before the PPV is scheduled, actually, 24 hours after the last show before the PPV, but I guess time is not on the champs side, for now. I can't make much of a prediction than that.

WINNERS: Deuce & Domino

WWE Cruiserweight Championship
CHAVO GUERRERO vs. JIMMY WANG YANG
Take out the gimmicks and this is a match for a technical wrestling fan's dream. However, the redneck gimmick of Yang's is something I have had trouble digesting. It works, but I remember him back from ROH when he showed off his skills, not his, well, nevermind. The question here is what happens after this match. Does Smackdown go with the local newcomer, (he's from Texas, I believe), or do they go with the other local legend in Chavo. This title is in some small amount of trouble until Rey Mysterio returns, as there's not much of a field of contenders out there waiting to challenge. I think this will be a good showing, but Chavo will retain, for now. It's a tough call, almost a pick 'em.

WINNER: Chavo Guerrero

World Tag Team Championship
LANCE CADE & TREVOR MURDOCH vs. THE HARDYS
I believe it's a fore gone conclusion that this match is going to go the route of the champions, and there's two reasons why I said that. One. If the Hardys are going to be a team on a regular basis, either Matt or Jeff would've moved brands during the draft to allow that to happen without having to do interpromotional work. Second, London and Kendrick right now are the Hardys of 2007, and I think, if London can shut his mouth, they are next in line for a program with the champions once they disperse of the Hardy Boys. I enjoy the Hardys as a tag team, and I don't understand WWE's desire to split them up again, however, I do believe Matt is taking full advantage of the situation, as prevalent from his war with Finlay on friday night. Anyway, give the win to the champs, and let's see them go up against the present version of Team Xtreme.

WINNERS: Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch

WWE Intercontinental Championship
SANTINO MARELLA vs. UMAGA
Wasn't it written pretty much everywhere that Chris Masters would be the next IC Champion? I mean, let's think about this. Go back to Milan, Marella does the impossible, and boom, Umaga goes with the Chairman, and Marella gets involved with matches with Masters, leading to an eventual title change, right?

Wrong.

Masters obviously didn't do his part, as he was drafted to Smackdown to be relegated to jobber duty, as seen this past friday. Meanwhile, the mistake heard on the other side of the world is going to attempt to be rectified as the Samoan Bulldozer finally gets a rematch. (I don't remember if he got one before.) Personally, I think Umaga wins. I don't think lightning can strike twice in the same place. And plus the fact, Umaga is much more of a marquis name for the secondary title on Raw rather than Santino Marella.

WINNER: Umaga

WWE United States Championship
MVP vs. RIC FLAIR
Man, do they give MVP a day off? Sheesh. Let's see. Kane. Undertaker. Benoit. And now Flair? Talk about baptism by fire. And the bastard continues to shine. I can't say enough good things about MVP. He has won me over in a big big way. I love his entrance, his style is terrific, and yeah, I'm marking out for him like a little, whatever. As much as I would love to see the Nature Boy wear the gold of the US championship again, and it may happen down the road, I don't think it's going to happen here. And that's tough for me to say, because I'm just as big of fan of Flair as I am of the champion. This one should be very good.

WINNER: MVP

ECW Championship
CHRIS BENOIT vs. C.M. PUNK
I can't lose here, no matter who I pick. Either I pick the man who I saw first at a live ROH event win his second world championship, (the other being the ROH title), or I pick the man who has been so desperately deserving of another shot with a world championship. Either way, the world wins from this match. Yes, this is a dream match for most of the world, as both men can wrestle their collective asses off. There's no real hatred here, it's a fight, a war for the belt, and I think it could be the show stealer. While I believe Punk is the uncrowned ECW Champion, I believe the brand still benefits from an established name at the top of its roster, so I believe that Chris Benoit will become a world champion again and win the ECW Title. Now the next question is, and this just popped in to my head as I am writing this. Was Benoit ever WCW Champion? I need to check that. I know he won it, and threw it in the garbage, but was he recognized? Does this match put Benoit as the 2nd man to win the WWE, ECW, and WCW world titles? And don't tell me that he didn't win the WWE title, because World, WWE, same thing to me.

WINNER: Chris Benoit

World Heavyweight Championship - Do or Die
EDGE vs. BATISTA
Edge wins. Why? Simple. Batista had his time as champion for now. He may have it again, but it won't be while Edge is holding the belt. Batista will team up with Flair and chances are chase after the tag team titles. Not much else to say here. It's a virtual lock that Edge wins. They put too much in to Edge winning the title from the Undertaker to take it off of him now.

WINNER: Edge

WWE Championship Challenge
JOHN CENA vs. MICK FOLEY vs. KING BOOKER vs. RANDY ORTON vs. BOBBY LASHLEY
Question. If they're going to do a multiple match like this, why not just add one more man, and make it a chamber? This match appears to be thrown together at the last possible second. There is not much reason to the match. Sure, Lashley deserves a shot being the never to have lost the title ECW Champion. Orton's removal of HBK and RVD from the roster can allow him a shot. Booker, well, he's Booker, he has the resume to take the shot, and Foley, well, I have my opinions there. So, all four men are legitimate contenders, don't get me wrong, but do you honestly think any one of them can take Cena out in this match? One on one, the answer, possibly. Here in this four on one deal, I doubt it.

Egos will become prevalent to the fullest extent, and Cena will figure out a way out of this match with the belt. This will probably lead to a program with either Booker or Orton, as they are the most likely heel contenders, while whomever doesn't go with Cena will probably go with Lashley. Foley, well, Foley ought to really think in his heart if he can handle a match with the lights on bright like this. Personally, I don't think so.

And here we go, ladies and gentlemen, here's a statement I thought I'd never say.

It's time for John Cena to lose the WWE title.

Unfortunately, I don't think this is the time it's going to happen.

WINNER: John Cena
