Funk's Corner - Chris Benoit, Who is at Fault?

The events surrounding the demise of the Benoit Family have been a terrible and confusing odyssey for all who are a part of the wrestling business. One of the most beautiful women ever to step into the ring, Nancy Sullivan Benoit also known as Woman, Her son Daniel and Her Husband, Chris Benoit are gone.

Many question that Wrestling business itself may be at fault.

On an early misty cold morning on my Father's Flying Mare Ranch southwest of Amarillo, Texas with shotguns in hand and our limit of wild ducks, I stopped as we crossed the terrace that carried runoff water from his grass pasture to the pond just south of his house.

I said, "Dad, I would like to become a professional wrestler.

He told me two things, Dad said that professional wrestling would be great for my physical health. I could stay athletic, healthy and enjoy sports and a healthy life for a long time.

He also said it would take at least four years to even begin to learn what the wrestling business is about.
*******************
When I got my pilot's license, Eddie Graham who was an excellent pilot flew out to Texas in a single engine Cessna 210 just to offer some encouragement and instruction.

Eddie put me in the left seat (Pilot's Seat) and told me to take the aircraft up to altitude for maneuvers. Amarillo's Tradewind Airport is at 3600 feet so for maneuvers we went to 9000 feet.

When we leveled off Eddie had me slow to maneuvering speed, drop the landing gear and extend to full flaps then pull power and release the stick and take my feet off the rudder controls.

With no hands on the controls and no power the Cessna 210 just lazily continued to fly, leaning to the left, then to the right, nose up then down but still flying.

Eddie looked at me and said, "You see, Airplanes don't kill people.

Likewise, professional wrestling doesn't kill people.

Trucks and cars don't kill people and for that matter, you could make a case that drugs don't kill people.

It is the ignorant and unwise decisions and actions of people that kill people.
***************
My father's predictions have come true.

professional wrestling has been great for my physical health. I have been able to stay athletic, healthy and enjoy sports and a healthy life for a long time.

I am still learning every day more about the wrestling business.

I am grateful.

NEW NAMES ANNOUNCED FOR THE UNION’S SEPTEMBER DEBUT

EL GENERICO vs STERLING JAMES KEENAN. HORNET vs. SHIIMA XION. STEVE CORINO in the main event. The Union of Independent Professional Wrestlers is already putting together a stacked line-up for BORN AGAIN. And now the news gets even better. UIPW’s Head of Fighters Affairs, AUSTIN SHAW, has released the names of three more Union Workers who will appear at Legion Hall #101 in Toronto on Saturday September 8th.

First comes news that the 6 foot, 9 inch, 300+ pounds “MOTOR CITY MONSTER" EDDIE VENOM will make his Union debut on September 8th at “BORN AGAIN". Venom has been destroying competitors throughout Michigan and Ohio for the past few years and has plans to do the same when he’s unleashed upon the Union roster this September.

And then, in the third match announced for the debut event: Northern Lights division star RIP IMPACT steps outside the cruiserweight scene to take on current CZW Iron Man champion “MR. INSANITY" TOBY KLEIN. Klein is a former IWA: Mid-South King of the Death Match and, more than any other wrestler in Union history, brings with him a career-long reputation for savage brawling and blood-thirsty antics. Rip Impact, on the other hand, has been building his name with incredible technical skills and high-risk aerials. It’s agility vs. brutality as Impact meets Insanity in September at “BORN AGAIN".

The Union of Independent Professional Wrestlers presents "BORN AGAIN" on Saturday September 8th 2007 starting at 7pm at Royal Canadian Legion Hall #101 in Toronto, Ontario. Doors open at 630pm. The Legion Hall is located at 3850 Lake Shore Blvd West, midway between Dixie Road and Brown's Line and directly adjacent to both the Long Branch GO station and the TTC's Long Branch Loop.

The venue has a FULLY LICENSED BAR so fans are reminded to bring valid ID and encouraged to use public transit if they plan to purchase alcohol.

Tickets are on sale now for $20 (general admission) and seating is strictly limited to 200, so buy yours today before they sell out. You can be amongst the first to guarantee your tickets by purchasing them securely online via PayPal in the store at www.wrestlersunion.ca.

LLW - August 3rd, Chapter 2: Turn The Page

As was mentioned in the other thread about this show, we have CHANGED THE DATE from July 28th to Friday August 3rd, with a 7 PM Bell time.

Here's the card:

LLW Heavyweight Title Match
Ruffy Silverstein VS. Matt Burns

Matt Burns stormed into Unit 13 this week demanding this match. He bitched about how he should be a Trifecta Champion right now, but he's not because a couple months back, Ruffy turned his back on The Flatliners to pursue the Heavyweight Title. Now, Asylum is out of action (thanks to Brute and Akira) and Burns wants revenge, by taking Ruffy's belt.

LLW Heavyweight Title #1 Contenders Match
6 Pack Elimination
Cody Deaner VS. Eddie Osbourne VS. Derek Wylde VS. Hayden Avery VS. Hornet VS. Magnum

At LLW Revelations, Cody Deaner and Eddie Osbourne battled Silverstein. Osbourne tapped, and Deaner felt like he had been screwed. Both men have demanded an opportunity to compete for the LLW Heavyweight title again.

Dangerboy Derek Wylde, a true veteran of this industry is capable of winning ANY belt at any time. With his tag team partner Michael Elgin out of action, Wylde has set his sites on the big crown.

One of the perrenial fan favourites in LLW, Hayden Avery is looking to capture his first title in our company. In order to do that, he'll have to win the 6 Pack Elimination Challenge and then defeat the champ on September 15th.

Hornet will be making his return to LLW following a run in LA and Mexico. How much has Hornet's game stepped up after the run he's been on down south?

Danny Magnum rounds out the 6 Pack because .. well ... he scares us, and if we didn't put him in, he'd probably tear the building down.

LLW Steel City Championship Match
Reggie Marley VS Andrew Davis

At Revelations, Davis pinned tough man Jake O'Reilly and the booking committee has decided that he deserves a shot at the Steel City Champ. Remeber, this is a NO DQ match up. How will the technically gifted Davis fair against the big tough vet?

LLW Trifecta Championship Ladder Match
Deathproof VS. Club Sexxx
This match is 6 months in the making! These two teams have been tearing each other apart. For months it appeared that Deathproof had Club Sexxx's number, but recently, thanks to the numbers game - Deathproof has been picked apart. Now the sides are even, and these teams will settle the score in a Trifecta ladder match!!

All three belts will be hung, and to win, a team must capture two of the three.

LLW Light Heavyweight Championship Match
Jay Fenix VS. Josh Taylor

Josh Taylor became the first LLW Light Heavyweight Champ at Revelations, by ripping off Jay Fenix. Fenix appeared to have won the Royal Rumble and the title, but Taylor slid in and tossed his opponent out. After the match, Taylor used his new belt to bust Fenix open to the tune of 15 stitches. Revenge is on Fenix's mind.

Otis Idol and Jake O'Reilly VS. Akira Raijin and Brute Issei

Akira Raijin and Brute Issei from AJPW won't have Scott D'Amore in their corner this time, but they may not need him. These two defeated Derek Wylde, Michael Elgin and The Flatliners in ONE NIGHT. They're in tough though against two thirds of Ontario Top Team.

Glitz N Ditz VS. Jennifer Blake and Danyah

Cherry Bomb & Krystal Banks are a dynamic tag team. Last month Blake and Danyah went at it in a technical match and decided to now join together to take on this very popular tag team.

Two On One Handicapped Match
Crazzy Steve VS. The Gym Rats

In the Light Heavyweight Battle Royal, Crazzy Steve looked like he could be on his way to winning it all, when the Gym Rats shocked everyone by eliminating this very popular wrestler. Scotty O'Shea and Alex York then yelled at the fans, blowing snot rockets and saying something about how they didn't need help from anyone.

Crazzy Steve is ... well crazy, and mad as hell. He has URGED the LLW booking team to give him not one, but BOTH Gym Rats, so he can teach these kids a lesson.

Ticket Prices are $10 in advance and $15 at the door

As always the Venue will be the LLW Arena located at
95 Hempsted Drive Unit 13, Hamilton

Doors will open at 6:30pm, Bell Time at 7pm Friday, August 3, 2007

This will be LLW's 1 Year Anniversary Show

Until Next Time,

LLW Promoter
