Another report from TNA House Show in Syracuse, NY (Tomko injury?)
On Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 2:38 AM EST Joe M. sent this report in:
I just returned from the TNA house show at the NY State Fair and thought I'd send in some additional details about the matches at the show. Tomko injured???
1. Eric Young vs Robert Roode - Well the match started out ok, typical match for these two. At one point in the match Eric Young was tripped by Ms. Brooks and then later in the match she jumped on the apron to distract him, then ended up having him in a headlock on the mat. Of course he showed the audience he loved that with his huge cheesey smile!! The ending of the match saw Robert Roode climb to the top turnbuckle, Eric bumped him to cause the typical crotch shot on the turnbuckle. Ms. Brooks then came in the ring, Eric got her in a firemen's carry then went to Roode in the corner and put him on his shoulders as well. He then dropped them both on each other, immediatley pinning Roode for the 3 count. I was sort of surprised at the fact he had both Roode and Brooks on his shoulders prior to the pin. Overall very nice opening match.
2. Jay Lethal vs Sonjay Dutt vs Kaz - They started out more like a comedy show than an actual wrestling match. Don't get me wrong these guys are some great talents but with Sonjay trying to hug everyone and high five everyone during the match got a little rediculous. The three did some "mirror style" moves (ie. they went for a dropkick all at the same time, they all went for a lockup with all three involved, etc..), this got the audience to appreciate their talents with a HUGE POP and a TNA chant. The finish saw Jay Lethal get the three count via pin. Would have like to see the guys lose the comedy act but hey it did involve "Black Machismo". Not a bad match but not great either.
3. Jackie Moore vs Ms. Brooks - The audience did not like Ms. Brooks at all, they started a chant calling her a "Crack Whore" throughout the match. Jackie got on the ropes at one point and yelled "Who's a crack whore?" That's all the audience needed to here and they got even louder ... "Brooks is a Crack Whore... Brooks is a Crack Whore." Jackie had the upper hand for most of the match, with one point Jackie putting Brooks into the ring railing it and knocking it over heading towards the audience. Security made their way over to fix it and they got back in the ring. They did the "roll over the ref" towards the end with Earl Hebner smiling and strutting around after getting rolled on by the ladies. Then ending saw Jackie rollup Brooks for the three count. This match was much better than I expected from a ladies match. Nice Job Jackie and Ms. Brooks.
4. LAX vs Triple X (Christopher Daniels & Senshi) - I got a couple pictures in the beginning then had to run to the car to get the extra batteries during this match. LAX got a Huge Pop when their music hit. Sorry didn't see the ending but came back just in time to see LAX leaving with their hands in the air and found out they won.
5. Samoa Joe vs AJ Styles - Surprisingly enough both guys got a very nice pop from the crowd. One question though, why did TNA make AJ seem like such a whine ass now?? His old persona is what made him what he is and TNA is slowly crushing him. Anyway, typical match for these two. Each got in their trademark moves with Samoa Joe coming out on top with the pin for the three count.
Intermission followed this match with Samoa Joe going to the Merchandise stand accompanied by Terry Taylor. Samoa Joe ended up tossing his towel to an audience member as the intermission was coming to a close.
6. Tomko vs Abyss - Jeremy Borash announced that during intermission word came from the back that due to the Syracuse crowd being so "Hot" and TNA having it's first show in NY here at the NY State fair that the officials have now declared this match a "No Disqualification Match"!!! Crowd went NUTS! Typical back and forth start, then Tomko gets the upper hand. Tomko brings in the chair first and nails Abyss over the back with it. He sets it in the corner to be used later. Abyss catches Tomko offguard and notices the chair propped in the corner so he whips Tomko headfirst into the chair. Black hole slam attempt, Tomko blocks it and catches Abyss with a choke slam on the chair. Two count. Tomko recovers and tries to hit Abyss with the chair to the head, Abyss ducks and catches Tomko with the Black Hole Slam on the chair for the three count and pin. The match seemed like it ended just a bit quick.
**Possible Injury? - After the match ended Rudy Charles immediately checks on Tomko and looks to the back. Earl Hebner came running down as well as another official and what looked to be a team doctor. Tomko was down on the mat for only a few minutes but when he attempted to get up he was favoring his right shoulder/arm. He rolled out of the ring and walked towards the back in what seemed like sharp pains in his right shoulder/arm. Personally this didn't seem to be a "work" in my opinion, but you never know with wrestling. Shortly after the guys went to the back local paramedics were seen going towards that side of the arena, during the middle of the Chris Harris/James Storm match the paramedic team returned to their stand by positions at the end of the arena.**
7. Chris Harris vs James Storm - Good back and forth match with these two former tag partners. The match saw Jackie Moore get involved a couple of times with the final time tossing a bag of white powdery substance to Storm. Jackie distracts Earl Hebner and Storm attempts to toss the powder in Harris' face only to get caught by Harris who hits Storms hand causing the powder to get in Jackie's eyes as well as Storms eyes. Harris sees the opprotunity to get the pin and scores the three count. Jackie still blinded by the powder reaches for a hand to raise and ends up raising Chris Harris' hand and posing with him. Shortly there after she clears her eyes and realizes its Harris and bolts from the ring. Chris Harris grabs Storms hat and puts it on Hebners head then leaves. Overall ok match, for some reason I expected more from these two.
8. Kurt Angle vs Christian Cage - Again Jeremy Borash announces a change to another match tonight. This time it's now going to be a TNA World Championship Match that just might change the plans for the PPV this coming Sunday...(ummm yeah right!!) But anyways, this caused the crowd to go major NUTS!! Biggest pop of the night!! Christian got on the microphone for some heel build-up prior to Kurt Angle hitting the ring. Typical heel smack... "Syracuse Orange..Orangmen..Whatever that team is Sucks" .. "Couldn't even win a game Saturday" ... Yadda Yadda Yadda... Talk about pissing off a house show crowd!! Half the audience was so ticked off they were yelling back at him, with the other half of the crowd laughing at how much of an ass he makes himself out to be. Kurt Angle hits the ring and Boooooom this had to be the second biggest pop of the night since the first was the announcement for the title being on the line. Great back and forth action between these two. Christian seemed so stiff during this match when Angle went for his typical triple suplexes, it just looked like Angle was doing all the work. The finish saw Angle attempt the Angle Slam, Christian countered with an attempted Unprettier only to be countered by Angle. Angle rolled up Christian then rolled through it to plant the Angle Lock for the tap out victory. Retaining the TNA Championship to no surprise here Kurt "You Don't Suck Much in TNA" Angle!!!! Kurt posed for a few pictures after the match on his way to the back.
***Crowd Response***
Best Pop -
1. Cage/Angle match now Title Shot
2. Kurt Angle
3. Abyss
4. Tomko/Abyss match now NO DQ
Heel Heat -
1. Christain
2. Robert Roode
3. James Storm
4. Kaz
****Side notes****
There were problems with the lighting during the Eric Young/Robert Roode match with the audience floor seating actually being alot brighter than the ring area. It looked like the guys were wrestling in a candle lit ring for a while. The lighting was fixed around the ladies match.
There were microphone/speaker problems throughtout the show. Every time JB announced someone with a first and last name, they microphone/speaker would cut out on their last name. During the final part of the introductions to the Angle/Cage match you can see on JB's face the frustration with the facilities system finally kicked in. During Cage's heel promo at one point the mic/speakers cut out and he yelled at the sound booth to stop screwing with the sound or he'd come up there and kick their asses! The crowd actually popped for that.
JB announced a couple times that due to the overwhelming crowd response that TNA would be showing clips from the house show on Spike TV this Thursday on Impact. Also he asked if we would like to see TNA go to two hours on television. Of course the crowd yelled yes, he stated to keep our eyes open it just may happen sooner than later.
JB also mentioned that due to the attendance during this house show that TNA would be returning to the Syracuse NY area in the near future and to keep your eyes on the TNAwrestling.com website for more details to follow.
***End of Side Notes***
I think that that's just about it from the NY State fair TNA House show event. From my perspective it was a very nice change of pace compared to the other promotions that come to NY State. I would be more than happy to attend another show as soon as TNA comes back to NY. I will have a few pics posted online later this evening at this link.
