CYGY’S VIEW: CHRIS JERICHO, THE MAN OF THE WEEK
By Marcus Cygy – September 29, 2007

Well I’m finally starting to get over a nasty flu that has also infested my entire community around me. And while sick, I continued reading the online reports and once again like old news Chris Jericho’s name was brought up in the rumour mill.

“He’s coming back," they say.
“TNA are negotiating with Jericho," I’ve heard.
“WWE offered Jericho a six figure contract," I was also told.
“Chris Jericho is guaranteed a World Title, and creative control in WWE."
“Promos aired on WWE television that could relate to a possible Y2J return."
“Save_Us.222 means Save Us Y2J."

Wow! In the past, these Jericho news bits would run within a day’s span and then die off, but this time it’s dragged on for an entire week. Scrap talk of the day, Jericho has been the man of the week! The funny thing too is that Jericho isn’t even in the public eye right now and he’s still the most talked about person, not a good sign for WWE creative at this time.

My view on this matter you ask? Well, he’s definitely not going to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. His next-door neighbour Christian Cage will have to just remain friends with him outside of a wrestling community because of that fact. Or could my sources be pulling a fast one on me like they did with Kurt Angle in 2006? Because let’s face it, Jericho is a TNA fan and has many friends in TNA. Many new intriguing matches for him as well, plus a fresh new start and direction.

On the other hand we have World Wrestling Entertainment, where the big bucks are. A six-figure contract has been reported as being offered to Jericho, which I don’t doubt. Also included in the deal are reportedly some creative control and a guaranteed World Title reign, which for WWE standards is a big desperate offer in my opinion. Let’s face it though, I think it’s safe to say that in TNA he would also receive a World Title reign and at the same time be granted creative direction over his character. In the end though, I think the money speaks louder, but I’m never going to judge a person over that positively or negatively. Money is money, you need it and I need it too. But I think the most intriguing part of the WWE deal is the creative role, not many wrestlers within the WWE brass get that opportunity.

Besides seeing a lot of positives with Chris Jericho debuting in TNA, I see a lot of positives with a WWE return too. If current rumours stand correct then we could see Jericho return next Sunday at No Mercy and remember, Jericho left the WWE because he lost to WWE Champion, John Cena in a rematch on RAW after SummerSlam 2005. They could easily reignite that feud if they wanted too. So it’ll be interesting to see what happens.

As for if this whole matter even relates to Chris Jericho at all. I can honestly say I don’t know. I haven’t received any good enough information or clues that could relate to anyone else but Jericho though, so I think it’s safe to say it’s him, but I’m always skeptical and I expect the unexpected. Those “Save_Us.222" promos on WWE television though do look to relate legitimately to Chris Jericho, in my opinion.

On a side note, I rented The Condemned DVD last night, starring Stone Cold Steve Austin, and I personally loved the movie. It was easily the best movie to come out of the WWE Films synergy, it’s a shame it didn’t do too well in the theatres but I hear it’s around #2 right now in DVD rentals so that’s good news.

And for my last side note, I finally got finished working on the new MarcusCygy.com design so the site has finally been reopened. I have services on the site that you can check out as well. An archive of all my work in the past is also currently being worked on and should be up soon sometime in October.
